Dealing With A Intrusive Landlord: Seeking Advice by faboye2: 1:30am On May 09
Hello Nairalanders,

I am seeking some advice regarding a situation I've been dealing with concerning my landlord, and I would appreciate your insights and suggestions.

Here's the scenario: I moved to Ogun state three years ago for a factory job opportunity. Initially, I resided in a 'face me I face you' arrangement, which was comfortable in terms of privacy but lacked the amenities I desired. Eventually, I found a self-contained apartment recommended by an acquaintance. Although the landlord resides in the same compound, I maintained a respectful distance and ensured minimal disturbance.

Recently, I transitioned from the factory job to remote work in the tech industry. When I informed my landlord about this change, he unexpectedly contacted my mother abroad to verify the information, which left me feeling uneasy about his level of intrusion into my personal affairs.

To add to the discomfort, my landlord visited my apartment last week to inspect for damages, a task he had never performed previously. I complied with his request but was disheartened by his sudden shift in attitude, seemingly fueled by unfounded suspicions about my livelihood.

The latest development occurred when a friend sought temporary accommodation for two months due to his own housing constraints. Without prior notice, my landlord insisted on meeting my friend and threatened legal action if we failed to comply with his demands for formal documentation.

With my lease expiring in October, I find myself questioning whether this living arrangement is sustainable, given the increasing interference from the landlord. It seems that the ideal living situation might be one without a landlord breathing down my neck.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to navigate this situation. Has anyone else experienced similar challenges with landlords, and if so, how did you handle it?

Your landlord probably thinks you run yahoo. You caused it though. Manage it until your is rent is due then move. And keep your private life private next time.

Ideally it's best to avoid living in the same compound with a landlord/lady. Get a new place.
