Good day nairalander, I believe your night was good
I'm bringing this up here because I really care about my family more especially parents, that's why I'm seeking for your opinions now before it becomes too late. So please pardon any typographical error or omission.
We are three children in my family, I'm the only son with my two elder sisters, I'm 27. We were all born and breed in Lagos but later on we moved down to the east due to situation of things. Later on my sisters got married so I was the only one left with my parents, I was still in unizik but on the way I had to drop out and enroll for national open university due to I couldn't combine school with work because I was the one sponsoring my education then. Fortunately for me I concluded my Bsc last year September and decided to move back to Lagos were I can find more opportunities as a graduate, I had to persuade one of my sisters to come down with her family so she can watch after my parents while I go because at that moment my mum was battling with her health.
I relocated to Lagos last year but to be honest things didn't really turn out as expected. I'm still jobless at the moment but I've been managing myself as a man, now the issue is of recent I called my mum and asked about her health condition she said she has been indoor for the past 2 weeks, according to her she has been feeling too weak due to BP and sugar level, Her BP is at 180/90 while her sugar level is at 190.
Initially I didn't really take it serious because I don't know much about this BP something, not until a friend of mine who stays close to our house called me to tell me he doesn't like the state he met my mum, that with the few explainations he heard from my mum that if nothing is being done it can transform into stroke. I became scared but I really don't know what to do, I cannot go back to the village to go and start doing menial job again while I'm getting old that's why I'm seeking for your opinion on how do I manage her health condition. And meanwhile I'll be grateful to anyone who can help me with any job opportunity here in Lagos so I can help my home but at the moment what can be done to help my mums health condition

You said nothing about the 2 married females

Why did they abandon their mother??

You can now see the true nature of the female folks you always defend.

The 2 ladies, who already well settled, need to come together to plan how to care for their mother, while this jobless and koboless guy is allowed to sort out his life.

You won't be able to do that on your own

HTN and DM require both medications and lifestyle/dietary changes for optimal control

Get a Nurse who can visit regularly to check her BP and sugar, and advice her accordingly, including on her food choices.

Your role will be to follow her up and ensure she is taking her medications regularly and complying with nutritional advice

Both you and the Nurse should also know when to take her to the hospital for review if the control is not going as planned/expected.

If you have money, you can make the work easier for the Nurse/Caregiver by buying Digital Spygnomanometer and Glucometer for BP and sugar checks respectively at home.

THE FIRST IS REMOVE SALT FROM HER FOOD. FOR NOW COMPLETELY THEN WHEN THE BP DROPS YOU CAN START ADDING LITTLE SALT TO HER MENU.
CUT OUT EGGS, OILY FOODS, FRIED FOODS, FATTY MEAT, MARGARINES, OILY NUTS ETC
INTRODUCE GINGER AND GARLIC AS SEASONGS IN HER FOOD.
INFACT I WOULD RECOMMEND GINGER TEA. I MEAN HOME MADE GINGER TEA::TAKE FRESH GINGER, WASH, GRATE, POUND INTO SMOOTH PASTE POUR HOT WATER INTO IT OR BOIL IN POT WITH LITTLE WATER, SIEVE AND GIVE HER TO DRINK WHILE HOT, DON'T ADD SUGAR. YOU CAN COMBINE THE GINGER WITH GARLIC FOR A BETTER RESULT.

THIS SHOULD BE GIVEN TWICE A DAY, MORNING & EVENING BEFORE BEDTIME.

HIGH BP PRECIPITATES DIABETES, IF HER BP WAS KEPT LOW SHE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD HIGH SUGAR

BP IS EASIER TO MANAGE THAN DIABETES.

MAY GOD HELP US ALL

She to to reduce her intake of carbohydrates/Starch as well as soft drinks and alcoholic drinks. Then she has to be religious with her antihypertensives and anti diabetic drugs.
