MEEVEET: You've answered yourself - when you put money into an inflationary market especially an import push type inflation you create the double whammy of currency devaluation and higher prices. There is a time gap between giving people cash for ideas and then seeing production rise to match money supply. How is that gap managed? I discounted the 2008 crisis because it was caused by the US sub prime crisis which was very unique to America. NG's corellation with US market was significantly lower in this time period. In fact the stock market in Nigeria had a great 2008 up to half year 2009. But let's look closer at what the US actually did and compare with NG policy. The methodology adopted in the US was to bail out select banks, provide $129 bn in tax cuts and $311 bn in infrastructure, education and healthcare initiatives. It never put money into the hands of citizens. This is the same approach the NG government is pursuing. Reduce taxes from 60 to 9 and raise thresholds to safeguard the poor and then do massive infrastructure investments and pin point student loans direct to institutions, same for healthcare. What this does is improve consumer liquidity and hence demand without flooding the market with inflationary cash. You don't need to push cash to the public in order to create more money in their pocket. You simply reduce the cost of inefficiencies and bottlenecks and give the money already in their picket more value. |

Kukutente23:You go ask Onanuga. But my point is that Maersk own APM Terminal since 2006. So the government may not be entirely wrong. I do not speak for the Government, but an expert on the Nigeria ports reforms |

BreconHills:I am only going to take my time to debate u because u seem to be smart Let's take a practical example here two states one state A and state B Both state A and state B have revenue less than recurrent expenditure and debt servicing But are given $1 billion with 10 years interest free State A Invest in infrastructure, build rail, build roads and the likes States B... Invest directly in its people, businesses they have comparative advantage in import substitutions and export oriented goods Now after 10 years which of these two states would be in a better financial situation 1 Like |

Even if you have chosen to be devious like your pay masters, do you think you can deceive everyone? Do you want to pretend that you don't know that this Bolaji Ariyo is not just an APC member but the former chairman of Oshodi - Isolo LGA? Do you expect him to challenge his benefactor- especially when he will have been promised compensation both openly and codedly We know you belong to a coven of liars so you will act like you are unaware. Snakes- the lot of you! emkz: |

Re: Bolaji Ariyo, Owner oF Mami Chula Beach Declares Support For Lagos-Calabar Road by BreconHills(m): 4:34pm On May 09 |
MEEVEET: I actually replied this but I don't know if it went through. So this response will be shorter. State A will do better because any success that state B enjoyed will create a clogged up infrastructure that will raise costs and diminish competitiveness. State B may have greater natural and productive capital but as my attached sheet shows it is intangible capital that drives wealth. Infrastructure comes with policy and processes that improve Trust capital - the ability of people to do business with confidence and leverage. State B will choke on its capital as infrastructural limitation become choke points. Compromise, corruption and low business confidence is not enough. Any country with natural wealth or even high GDP per head will choke on its infrastructural limitations while states with first class infrastructure will magnetise companies and businesses looking for efficient low cost environments. Look for the world bank study entitled " Where is the wealth of Nations"

Re: Bolaji Ariyo, Owner oF Mami Chula Beach Declares Support For Lagos-Calabar Road by MEEVEET: 4:53pm On May 09 |
BreconHills:Firstly A would get trapped as it can't pay back it's loans, would need to borrow more to pay back it's loan State B can then tax those businesses since they took loan they would be ropped into the tax net with that tax revenue build the needed infrastructure that would be needed by the industries The infrastructure would be built based on demand I say B would be better in both economic stand point and infrastructure in the long run 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Bolaji Ariyo, Owner oF Mami Chula Beach Declares Support For Lagos-Calabar Road by BreconHills(m): 5:03pm On May 09 |
MEEVEET: You want state B to tax people on what basis? Tax is based on the provision of infrastructure and services. State A will toll and price its service. How can it get trapped by loans. It is the perfect opportunity for private sector management while government regulates. You have a very elevated view of cash. I have laid out a pretty strong argument - much of which you have not addressed. At this stage we have to agree to disagree. |

Re: Bolaji Ariyo, Owner oF Mami Chula Beach Declares Support For Lagos-Calabar Road by MEEVEET: 5:15pm On May 09 |
BreconHills:Lol this is where you get it wrong You can only tax people who work or make profit which state B would have higher number of... Because their business as government loan funded their account would be open book You tax then build infrastructure not build infrastructure then tax For A most of the infrastructure would he unused because the economic power of the people would be very limited... Most of the infrastructure as the case of nigerian rail would require government fundings to keep them afloat... So how can you tax poor people Take Lagos rail for example... It's impossible for them to charge what they need to get profitable because the people are too poor 1 Like |
