Peter Obi Reacts To Poor UTME Scores by emkz: 4:41pm On May 09
The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election took to Twitter to lament the poor performance of candidates in UTME.

The recent revelation regarding the JAMB UTME 2024 results and percentages has sparked deep concern about the state of education in our country. These statistics paint a troubling picture that demands urgent national attention and discussion.

The distribution of scores is alarming, with only 0.5% of candidates reportedly scoring 300 (75%) and above, while a staggering 76% scored below 200 (below 50%). This highlights a systemic issue within our education sector indicating a significant lack of attention to this
very critical contributor to national development. This brings to limelight an obvious gap in the quality of education provided nationwide. Education remains a critical determinant of a nation's progress on the Human Development Index (HDI).

Unfortunately, Nigeria has continued to lag behind in education, reflected by its low HDI ranking of 164 out of the 191 countries measured. This places Nigeria far below other comparable nations like Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh and the Philippines which are within medium and high HDI. Though we claim as a nation that our literacy rate is above 50 percent, which is far below the global average of about 80% and continues to lag behind other comparable countries like Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh and the Philippines with literacy rates of above 70%. This again, underscores the systemic challenge in access to quality education, particularly in rural areas.

One of the consequences of the reported general poor performance in UTME is that with our population of over 200 million, Nigeria can only boast of about 2 million full-time students in different universities, while Iran with a population of over 89 million has over 8.2 million students in one University alone, Islamic Azad University, Bangladesh with a population of about 173 million boasts of over 2 million enrolled undergraduates in the National University of Bangladesh.

This underscores the urgency of the attention needed in our education sector. In solving this challenge, we must prioritise education as a key driver of development by aggressively investing in education, enhancing teacher training programs, and implementing inclusive policies.

A new Nigeria is indeed POssible! -PO

Reactor or not, the man has highlited serious problems that need adressing.

But when governors try to adress such problems, you Nigerians protest. El rufai of kaduna came in with a mandate to improve Kaduna's education sector. He started by trying to remove deadwood teachers and replacing them with good teachers. Nigerians in Kaduna and nationwide joined the local NUT to stop the move.

And today, Kaduna continues to have poor education outcomes...because we were far more interested in keeping bad teachers in a job instead of bringing in good teachers.

As for funding...the same Kaduna is supposed to spend 120 billion on education...when that money is shared among the schools and the big state university , it ends up being tiny chicken feed. Yet when things like fighting corruption, improving tax intake, removing subsides on power to ensure that there is enough electricity to attract money and investments, and tax revenue to improve the budget...we go protest, so we rely on oyel money which cannot feed one state, talkless of 36 of them.

Obi you are calling reactor at least tried to improve schools by handing them back to misisonaries...but for some of you , he is basically doing nothing.

Anyway, we can always shout agbado and obident, and blame Hausas , Ibos and Yorubas ...forgetting that nothing has changed in decades.

The fraud is copying Atiku his boss who signs off with AA. Bitter Obi lacks leadership traits, he's a follower at best.

COMRADES, you can see that the labour party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi knows the importance of education that is why he lamented the poor performance in the just concluded UTME
Unlike the drug lord at Aso Rock, what he knows is forging certificate and also making lives difficult for Nigerians

Mr reactor.
According to Reno Omokri:

Dear Peter,

Get a mirror, and you will see the problem. The challenge we have in our education sector are irresponsible Governors, such as yourself, who promoted exam 'miracle centres' in their states.

Do you deny that under you, Anambra was officially branded the 'World Headquarters for Examination Malpractice' and that under severe pressure from the Federal Government and UNESCO, your successor, Governor Willie Obiano, was forced to close down 486 Exam Miracle Centres just two months after you handed over to him?

And since those centres were closed, Anambra reduced in WAEC and JAMB rankings. They were the secret to your success. Peter, you are Mmesoma Ejikeme's mentor!

And here you are, complaining about a problem you caused.

Every former and present governor guilty nobody dey innocent.... How many of them sent their children to public schs... When you ask them they'll tell you it's it's against their fundamental human rights to tell them where to send their children to....they don't send their kids there because d standard is low and they can't guarantee the safety of their kids... Other people kids can die and have access to poor education, they don't care...

If the former governor of Kogi State can take his children to faraway Abuja for primary sch education in an American private sch, then most of dis governors don't care about the development of primary education, not to talk of secondary or tertiary....

Dis one wey dey talk now, how many of your pikin you carry go government Secondary sch when u be governor?
