EVIDENCE OF SYSTEMIC RIGGING IN EDO ELECTION SO SUBSTANTIAL – ATHENA CENTRE

A non-partisan research institute, Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, has indicted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the conduct of the September 21 Edo State governorship election.

The organisation which conducted a review on the election which produced the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, as governor of the South-South state, claimed that it was compromised.

Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes to beat his closest contender, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 247,274 votes.

Founder of Athena Centre and ex-Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, who presented the Centre’s findings on the Edo State election on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, stated that there was substantial evidence of systemic rigging.

“The evidence of systemic rigging observed in this election is so substantial that we cannot call the results,” Chidoka said on the programme.

“The evidence of systemic rigging is so substantial that we think that this election should not be allowed to stand. If this stands, then there is no election in 2027.”

He said he is shocked that an institution like INEC would put its reputation at stake for the purpose of an election.

The former minister alleged that there was a lack of transparency in the election and discrepancies in voter accreditation.

He also alleged incidences of over-voting, and manipulation at ward collation centres and that the BVAS accreditation record was not transmitted to INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

He stated that 153 polling units were not accounted for which means there were no results from those polling units.

He concluded that the Edo State election cannot be deemed credible because it failed to meet basic integrity standards due to substantial interference in the electoral process by the umpire.

I will like to State/Stress the importance of credible elections in a democratic system. The Election process is more important than the government, governance and laws.

The Elections is what decide if we are actually operating a democracy or autocracy or what because it determines if this government is by the people, for the people or of the people and a representation/Reflection the people as its supposed to be.

A rigged Election cannot produce a democracy cos it is not the representation of the will or voice of the people.

it is one this to have poor electoral systems that need updating it's awhole different criminality to sabotage a supposed credible system deliberately.

The Election determines if it is a democracy.

A criminal organization can never conduct a credible election. Those dreaming of election in 2027 should go back to sleep.

A pdp chieftain and former minister created an organisation to monitor elections?? What a joke?

There was next to nothing in the report that was tangible enough beyond conjectures.

No result in 153 polling units for atate that have possibly 4,000 polling units does not necessarily signify it will change outcome. There may have been violence in those units.

Let us even assume the party he is working for, the Pdp had 100 votes and APC had 0 vote in each of the 153 polling units. That is 15, 300 additional votes. Will PDp have won?

This is what you guys do
Whenever electoral malpractice is being called out, you guys rush to remind everyone of the past as if your APC did not win election with a sitting president from another party. Did you guys gatecrash the 2015 elections where you won majority of states, NASS and presidency? Instead of improving on that, your party is taking us back to 2007 while you the clownish sycophants are urging them on.
You guys are simply enemies of Nigeria

I always tell those who care to listen that the judiciary is the main problem with our elections, not inec, not the laws, nor politicians.
The moment the judiciary trashed IREV in the 2023 PEPT, it gave inec and indeed the APC the leeway to carry out systemic rigging in the full glare of the public.
Funny enough, it was around the period of 2023 election electioneering that VAR was introduced into football. What VAR does is to ensure that what the spectators are seeing on their screen aligns with what the referee on the pitch rules.
IREV was supposed to be the same for our elections
It was a mechanism introduced to ensure that the man in the creeks of Bayelsa and the other one in the forest of Sambisa in Borno will be seeing same election results same time all over the country. The moment the judiciary pronounced that IREV had no role in our electoral system, it gave the riggers the leeway to do barefaced rigging while we watch on and can't do nothing about it but "wail".
Until IREV is allowed to serve its true purpose, this will continue to be the experience where elections are concerned

Sadly, what PDP did to mar the positive progression of Nigeria State, APC is doing worse.

Apparently, the evolution of the 3rd force with the view of rescuing the masses has been abortive.

it was trashed to favour osun pdp 2022 gubernational outcome. That was the origin. A painful precedence.
