Hey,

The new look of Lagos is attracting alots of fuss from the fashion trendy lagos girls and boyz. The recent arrest of ladies wearing dress that show the booty and boom is becoming on bearable for them. Guys with braids are complaining of harrasment form law enforcement agent.(we have right to do whatever with my hair)

Not leftout is the street market that has taken over the better part of the road. The gov want to polish the street of Lagos and get rid of miscrant and bad cultural practisies.

Your comments about this issue is very important because we all want sanity and our human right also must be protected.

Thanks
Lexyl.

I support it, as much as there is freedom of expression we are a traditional society and we should have set limits
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Mariory(m): 4:43pm On Aug 03, 2007
Does that mean the only work you should be allowed is that of house wife?
Does that mean you should earn less than men doing the same job you do?
Does that mean people have a right to not employ you because you are a woman? e.t.c

What if those are someone else's "limits"?

Who in the phuck does Governor Fashola think he is poking his nose into the clothing of women and ordering the arrest of those that give him a hard-on ?   Does this dong-head think he can impose a Taliban fundamentalist dark age on Lagos where women get hounded and arrested on the whim of some pervert ?

Sounds to me like this new governor of Lagos State is about to embark on a LOOTING SPREE of the likes never seen before, and is thus preparing the ground for that main agenda by setting up a bunch of diversionary brouhahas over meaningless crap such as his preoccupation with tits and ass.   Dumb phuck oughta be put out of his misery.

Slow down a little.

As much as we cannot legislate morality or the way people dress, our girls are carrying it a little too far. A decent girl should dress appropriately and not like hooker. It is far sexier to dress conservatively rather than dress in cheap revealing clothes.
In our zest to be like foreigners, our girls have become little sluts and our insttutions of higher learning have become glorified brothels. Some semblance of sanity have to be instilled in these girls and boys.

When we were growing up, it was unheard for a boy to braids his hair. We are Africans, not Americans and we need to adhere to our tradition.

On the other hand, the Nigerian police cannot be let loose to determine what is appropriate or not. They will simply turn it into another avenue for 'egunje'. A set guideline should be made available. Not restrictive or conforming for religious purposes, but for the sake of decency.

As much as I agree with you on the Morality issue. I'll have to say that it's not the government's job to enforce this. We are in a democracy for pete's sake. Let the churches and Mosques do their work.
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Xris74: 5:47pm On Aug 03, 2007
Rather than tackle the menace of armed robbers in the state which had led to the killing and maiming of innocent Lagosians, including policemen, the rank and file of the Lagos State Police command appear contented with pursuing and arresting ladies dressed in skimpy clothes and commercial sex workers along the streets of Lagos. Just yesterday, three of its men were killed at a branch of a new generation bank by armed robbers who stormed the bank in a commando like operation in broad daylight.

In the past three weeks, at least five policemen have been killed by men of the underworld in different operations in the state.

“But despite all these, the police hierarchy appear to be more concerned about harassing, embarrassing, intimidating ladies dressed in skimpy clothes and arresting ladies suspected to be prostitutes,” said a student of Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo, who was arraigned before an Ikeja magistrate’s court for prostitution, while speaking with P.M.News.

Knowing how the Nigerian "Police" often works, i can assure you that at least 25% of those women are not prostitutes. They just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And even if the remaining 75% are prostitutes, so what? As long as they are not stealing from or scamming people, what's the beef?

Not a task for the faint at heart I admit. It is not a job for government bodies. But when execesses are the order of the day, who is going to set limits and say enough already?
Parents seem unable to control their children all in the name of modernity. Our culture is being eroded to the extent many children in Nigeria are unable to speak their language.
Our heritage and cultures are being lost and someone has to stand up and rescue our eroding values.
The mosques will turn us to little black Arabs with their sharia dressing. The churches are a little better at instilling morals in members.

I feel like saying, "oh shut up" but I won't. You should know that the governor is just trying to distract us.
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by grafikdon: 6:02pm On Aug 03, 2007
Well, those who supported the anti gay marriage bill, this is the beginning of what you're wishing for Naija. Today it is Lagos, tomorrow it could be Anambra. Armed robbers are on rampage, government officials are directing public funds, pensioners are getting fleeced from every possible angle and we think women in skimpy dresses and guys in braids are the biggest clog in the wheel of Naija progress. When people call us the most backward race we'd scream for their heads on a platter. Hypocrites are the most dangerous human beings.

That's the point right there. We love to ignore the substance and chase shadows. Scantily dressed women and boys in braids are now more dangerous than armed robbers and looters of public funds.

thats very stupid of the police. why do they have to go that far? men they should first of all cure their own disease first before they cure other people own.
some of those prostitute might even before one of the policemen children. that governor must be either ashawo or woman wrapper.

bastard police men.

The picture makes me laugh. I can't understand why some are covering their faces? Maybe, they know what they are doing is not good or shame maybe the cause? Could that be true? If yes, why are they into it? Man must whack! angry

Bankole01,

Well said and laid out argument. I understand your point clearly and I agree with the expected output of your argument-(moral society). I think the governor is working the symptoms and not the root of the problem. We cannot provide a long term solution to the morality problem by attacking the symptoms, it will grow back.

my 2 cents.

Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by sprezatura(m): 7:24pm On Aug 03, 2007
a weak looking retard called guvnor and his weak priorities and weak mandate, what do you all expect, anyway enjoy the end of joy as the choice to wear what you desire has just been given to the police, n i bet you they will do a good job at ripping the decollatage sense out of you.

AC HAS JUST SWEPT YOUR FASHION FREEDOM AWAY.

But seriously it sucks, honestly, i luv girls with gorgeous legs, but i guess i will have to keep lifting knee length skirts to appreciate them. But we all can align with PDP they will oppose it cos they are not ruling Lagos.

Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by tundewoods(m): 7:31pm On Aug 03, 2007
Folks,Honestly i dont think Gov. Fashola is getting it wrong,I guess his tenure is still fresh and it may be the right step in the right direction.

Lets give him sometime i'm certain he will address other issues appropriately, such as the menace of Area boys ,touts and corrupt shameless cops extorting transporters.

Now regarding the cops taking advantage of the situation to arrest innocent people,i guess time will tell. But lets be quite realistic. How innocent can a lady in some skipy dress be ? or an Under fed lad with plaited  hair or natty dreadlocks ?Certainly if he doesn't look like some superstar entertainer,my guess is that the police will certainly take advantage of them to exhort money from them, after all they drew the attention of the cops in the first place.
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by justme3(m): 7:34pm On Aug 03, 2007
Who really is responsible for this? Is it Fashola or the police. As for the police its not suprising as they even arrest ppl for wandering even when they are in front of their houses.
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Seun(m): 7:35pm On Aug 03, 2007

Do you really think Fashola cares about "moral society"? Geez. If people are this gullible, I'm going into politics!
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by McKren(m): 7:39pm On Aug 03, 2007
Well if the picture above is anything to go by, I have not seen anything wrong with how those girls dressed.

I honestly think Gov Fashola and his Police Commissioner have more serious things to worry about than the dimensions of ladies clothes and how young boys make their hair.
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Seun(m): 7:41pm On Aug 03, 2007
As for the person who asked why they are covering their faces, isn't it obvious?
Under no circumstances will any sane human being want to face this kind of humiliation.
If you are arrested and falsely accused of something terrible, will you smile for the camera?
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by McKren(m): 7:51pm On Aug 03, 2007
I don't think there are a lot of women who will willfuly have sex in exchange for money, what responsible societies do is to tackle poverty which could lead any woman into sex trade not to punish the act itself. Because as much as Prostitution is morally unnacceptable, it is not yet a crime and thus police have no right to arrest those ladies when armed robbers are roaming the streets.

And right now, I have a feeling that the Lagos State police command is not acting any different from the Hisbah of Kano State and they have to be stopped. If Fashola does not stop the police commissioner then he is responsible and the public may have no choice than to take the law into their hands.

2007 Nigeria should not be going through this in the Nations commercial capital and I must tell you it is a big shame.

Nigeria is not Saudi Arabia.
