Why we barred females from wearing trousers in offices – Plateau govt

BY TAYE OBATERU
Jos—The Plateau State Government has said the barring of females from wearing trousers at the state secretariat and other government offices was part of the campaign against indecent dressing.

Head of Service in the state, Mr. Moses Gwom who gave the clarification in an interview with newsmen said it was also in line with the 10-point agenda of Governor Jonah Jang’s administration of which ethical re-orientation was one.

He said indecent dressing by females should not be condoned in offices where government business were conducted hence those considered not to be properly dressed were turned back from the secretariat.

The policy which started over a year ago has seen many women sent back from the gate of the Joseph Gomwalk Secretariat and other government offices for wearing trousers or other dresses considered indecent.

A woman who was once turned back from the secretariat described the experience as “embarrassing” arguing that she did not consider wearing of trousers as indecent.

She told Vanguard that rather than a blanket ban on the wearing of trousers by women, what was considered indecent should be well defined so as not to embarrass people unnecessarily.

She said: ”On the day in question, I was wearing a trouser suit which is an acceptable mode of formal dressing anywhere in the world, but I was turned back and could not transact the business for which I went there”.

No mind these bloody religionists! rather than concentrating on moving the country forward, they would be blissfully pre-occupied with dressing, who says wearing trousers is indecent, Muslims and Arabs wore skirts back in da days and Jesus F;cking christ wore a dress - now it is indecent dressing. trust these religious cretins to stick there heads in the toilets of religious hypocrisy and blind faith in their base and corrupt religious leaders  angry  SMH

Mr. Man what has this got to do with fresh air? The other day some ACN governors were deporting ghanians for no reason and you all blamed it on our leaders now its a PDP governor and u come with fresh air.
The fact that they gave reasons for their actions shows they are more civilized than those who give no reasons - that is fresh air

Men being turned on like dogs and losing control is seen to be solely the responsibility of women  in  rag-head zones,
Men are given no responsibilities for their actions even up to rape.
how sexist and irresponsible is that ?

Luckily for the rag-heads,  Mo' didnt say anything against electricity and shining lights.
(oh, when he was here we didnt have that yet.  Lucky you, moslems)

Pls. pass your blames to the right quarters; Plateau is a xtian state, don't try to bring Islam into this, you can blame christianity for this; because I can imagine if this law were to have been passed in KANO for instance, this forum will be filled by an avalanche of insults for Islam and Muslims.

If our leaders both past and present knew what they were doing, we should have had a cultural revolution which should have sorted things out such as indecent dressing.

If i had my way, Nigerians would have been wearing traditional attires to work.

We get a lot of things wrong in 9ja.

I entered a bus once in lagos, a woman was preaching about a chapter/verse in the Bible that forbids women from dressing or wearing clothing's similar to men; I think she said something like "Deuteronomy"
