One thing about history is that one must read from different perspective before coming to conclusion not just a single drafted piece from an individual no matter how attractive. Meanwhile who has links backing these claims by reno that the Ijebu people are not from the Yoruba lineage even though they speak Yoruba language and have same tradition as Yoruba. Also to my Benin people, no be today una start to like fight but I've never read in history about the Benin people conquering territories like reno claimed so a good source proof would do. |

The historical story of the city of Lagos dates back to far when the Portuguese colonised it before the Benins, Aworis, Egbas and others settles in it. Why the assertion that only Tinubu birthed and developed it is what I don't know. |

Osa means Lagoon in Yoruba. Eti Osa means "by the lagoon". Okun is the ocean. Olofin, the progenitor of the aworis came from Ile Ife. Awori comes from "awo ri". The story of Olofin provides an insight into the history of the original settlers. 1 Like |

There are many errors in Reno's story. There is nothing in the Yoruba language that reads Omo olu owa bi, rather it should read omo olu (I)wa bi. He claimed Yoruba had gotten Osa from Bini and I asked what is the initial name of Osa in the Yoruba dialect. To Reno and his co-travelers, Osa has no replacement in the Yoruba language and couldn't have been a borrowed word. Reno should tell us how many Osa can been found in Bini territory, the Osa that are known are situated in Yoruba territory, so Osa is a Yoruba word and not a borrowed word. Bini is traced to Ife and not the other way round, there was never a war between Awori and Bini in the quest for Eko, rather it was a brotherly embracement by the Awori to apportion some farmland to Bini within Awori territory. Again, Iga, is typical word that connotes compound. For example, my compound in Lagos is called Iga Ogboni and has nothing to do with Bini. 1 Like |

Anything from Reno Omokri is likely to be false, adulterated. and self-serving. I will rather look at other sources for history, than Reno's convoluted theories. |

jumper524:There is nothing like Yoruba lineage so there is nothing to prove or disprove Reno is right in most of what he wrote if it is properly understood and contextualized The biblical reference is nonsense It is only very tiny tribes that have a pure lineage. During the slave trade there was a lot of mixing The Ijebu practise Ifa,and trace ancestry to Ife but even among the Ijebu there was never one Ijebu kingdom There are riverine Ijebu with strong ties to Ijaw that worship water deities unknown to other Ijebu or Yoruba. Itsekiri language sounds a lot like Ijebu TO ME There is one thing unique to Ijebus separating them from other Yoruba and even Southern Nigerians. They did not practise female circumcision. That might seem like an irrelevant issue today but if you think about it ,it was a major barrier to marriage. Another thing is they were never conquered by Oyo,despite not having an army. They were traders and effectively prevented Oyo controlling trade at the sea. How were they so powerful without an army? Fear Ijebu is all I will say They were major players in the slave trade and this was dominated by women alongside their Egba neighbours also women. There were women Ijebu and Egba who had over 2000 slaves working for them in a region without an army unlike their powerful neighbours Awolowo was Ijebu as were other prominent figures like Odutola, Mike Adenuga,Yemi Osinbajo etc It is noteworthy that while oba means king that is not used as a title across Yoruba lands outside Lagos. That is a Bini influence compare with Oba of Ogbaland |

StreetFight:The're is really nothing like Ijebu land That is a post colonial title used to gain clout with colonialists. Ijebus were never under one monarch At best He can speak for Ijebu Ode but there is no evidence for that There are several kingdoms apart from Ijebu Ode that trace their origin to IleIfe |
