2012 Honda Accord P0011 Is Killing Me by Sirnioking(m): 8:04am On Aug 23, 2023 |
I recently worked on my 4 cylinder engine that makes a 2 seconds rattling noise after starting each morning. After which the P0011 code came up and refused to go. I bought a tokunbo VTC solenoid sensor it did not work. A rewire suggested it was a faulty brainbox switch or something. He opened the box, replaced a tiny switch, after driving home the lights came back again. The check engine often comes along with VSC light off and a screeching tire sign. I am sincerely tired of this issue. Kindly suggests ways I can fix it, please. Thanks. 1 Like |

Sirnioking: That rattling sound never goes off, it's engineering problem from Honda, it's the VTC Actuator. don't tamper with your brainbox. The sound doesn't in any way damage your engine. It only sounds on cold starts. Check youtube for more info. 4 Likes |

This is the same thing that happened to my accord. First my mechanic said its oil pump. Thereafter he said its the valve. My engine was open for the very first time after he finished car started smoking heavily but the sound stop. When I buy a new toks. If the engine needs to be open i will just sell the car like that. When Nigeria mechanic open your engine they mess with alot of things. They will tell you it doesn’t mean ouibo just put it there. if you watch oyibo autos you will see the how detail and precession they accurately make sure it look out. Reason for paper gaskets is because the engine will lose 100% seal fitness. 3 Likes |

Sirnioking: The whole timing system needs to be properly checked and inspected. your problem might be in the electrical side (wiring & ECU), hydraulic (oil related) or mechanical (VTEC actuator, timing chain etc). Can you also possibly shed more light on how the noise was fixed? asking because some road side techs usually weld the variable valve timing control permanently. that might take care of the noise but definitely the VVT system will not work any more. and ofcourse you will have alot of timing related error codes stored. |

Mine was properly done and does not smoke, I guess it requires brand new VTC solenoid sensor. AutoManual: |

Sirnioking: Take a look at the Honda Accord factory repair manual below. Click on next for further troubleshooting steps when done with the current page. You can either guide your mechanic or do it yourself if you're hands on. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/804994/Honda-Ep3.html?page=346#manual |

Sirnioking: The used part (Vtc actuator) has probably been worked on. That part was designed to either advance or retard depending on power need of the engine. That functionality is gone. Reason why you have timing related codes. And yes, it will affect your driving experience. You are better off, ordering a new part from good a reputable Honda/Acura store. It doesn't come cheap. Get a good Honda mechanic to fix it for you when you get the new vtc actuator. Gazzuzz comes highly recommended. Another thing, the vtc actuator has an updated part: 14310-R5A-305. Make sure you are getting this updated part when you order. Otherwise, just fix the rattling part back. I will rather deal with a 2 second rattling sound at start up, than having to deal with drivability issues. 3 Likes |

Sirnioking:Crankshaft metal? That's interesting. I was thinking it had to do with the VVT/Camshaft because usually such noise only at start up is mostly a faulty VVT actuator on camshaft. |

Sirnioking: This issue has nothing to do with the Valve Timing Control or the Oil Control Valve solenoid or the engine electronics either. If the solenoid is tested and working ok, there are several other pointers to look at during diagnosis. I dont have the time to go into long details here but I will help you correct the issue. I believe you may not have owned this car for long. |

I understand your frustration with the persistent issue in your 4-cylinder engine. It sounds like a complex situation, especially with the P0011 code and various warning lights. Since you've already tried replacing the VTC solenoid sensor and addressing potential wiring problems, it might be beneficial to consult a professional mechanic or an automotive diagnostic specialist. They can perform a thorough diagnosis, possibly using Postcode specialized equipment to pinpoint the root cause of the problem. This way, you can get a more accurate assessment and appropriate solutions for resolving the issue once and for all. Best of luck, and I hope you find a resolution soon! |

I'm really sorry to hear about the ongoing issue with your engine. It sounds frustrating. Since you've already replaced the VTC solenoid sensor and checked the brainbox switch, it might be worth getting a second opinion from another mechanic. They might have a fresh perspective or suggest a different approach. Also, consider Top legal directory checking the timing chain and related components, as they can sometimes cause similar symptoms. Hang in there, and I hope you find a solution soon! |

Sorry to hear about your engine troubles! It's frustrating when issues persist. Have you considered getting a second opinion from a different mechanic? Sometimes a fresh perspective can help pinpoint the exact laser scanning problem. Additionally, checking the wiring harness and connectors related to the VTC solenoid might be worth exploring. Good luck with the fix. |

Sirnioking:So have you fixed this problem? I have exact same code after rebuilding my engine. But it is showing as PENDING CODE P0011. I don't really understand what "pending" means, but I've erased the code several times and it keeps coming back as pending code. All other codes that came up after the work has been rectified but this pending code P0011 has refused to stay away. I'm scratching my head cos I've replaced VVT solenoid (this cleared the p0341 code I had). I've cleaned the vtec solenoid screen (this fixed P2646). My VTC actuator doesn't look touched and doesn't rattle. It was working perfectly before the rebuild and I don't want to just keep throwing parts at it. Also Honda didn't mention the actuator under this code. Also, why does it keep appearing as Pending code?

Macmilla: The pending code should clear after 2 oil change intervals. Ensure to use the recommended oil weight. |
Re: 2012 Honda Accord P0011 Is Killing Me by Macmilla(m): 9:19pm On Feb 20 |
aieromon:Ok. I'll change my oil this weekend hopefully. I also want to change my timing chain. I noticed my tensioner is extended out beyond spec, meaning the chain is stretched. |

AutoMoTech:How do I know mine has been welded? What are the symptoms it will give? Also do they do the welding inside the actuator or somewhere external? I couldn't see any sign of welding or previous opening on the actuator. So I'm confused. I'm the second user, so I can't say what the first user has done probably to get rid of the rattle. But I don't like throwing parts at a car. I currently have p0011 code, rough idle (vibration at idle), a bit long crank before start. The p0011 keeps coming back after about 2 drives. |
