Hello, I need information about these states. I have an opportunity of moving to one of them. I've gathered some information from Google but first hand info from nurses who is living or have lived there would be appreciated. For example, what's the hourly rate for RNs, staff and agency wise. Cost of living Best School zone Nursing home vs hospital, which pays better? TIA |

Well, each state varies and depending on the location and type of accommodation. It could range from 1100-as much as 2500. I'm not a nurse so I don't know how much they make but then it varies from state to state and organization as well lol, But nurses make decent money. Look at your different options for jobs cos its not always about how much they pay, there are other factors that you might want to consider also ie WL balance. Or you could do both if there's no restrictions for you lol. Another thing I can advise is to join a community ie church or mosque and there are lot of good people that would give you some good guidance. 1 Like |

A lot of what people will tell you is a matter of preference. That said, the south is notorious for lower pay and working you much harder. But Atlanta and certain parts of Texas (and Florida) are the exception. You can also buy a McMansion for like nothing down there and a lot of land, and that's the main draw for many, and also some people are impressed by trashy celebrities in Atlanta. There's also the issue of sprawl and accessing goods/services. You're going to spend a lot of time in your car for everything (in the south). And things close early. Some people don't care, but I consider that a quality of life issue if you basically can't do anything without sitting in traffic. I wouldn't want to lose personal time, rest, and etc. because of commutes and location. I also wouldn't want to be so closed off from community. There's a ton of Nigerians in Texas and Atlanta. But there's a lot in North Jersey as well, and you have quick access to NYC. I can't say the immigrant community is as robust outside of the NJ/NY area. But things are changing. I have to admit that I consider black people in NJ/NY a lot more problack than the south, despite all the HBCUs, greek org culture, and etc. Maybe that's an unfair stereotype though. Culturally, I also feel like the north values education significantly more. Again, maybe that's an unfair stereotype. I say this all to say that the cultural experience can differ significantly. And if you have children, it will have a strong impact on their values and relationship with their heritage. Personally, there's no job that I would accept in Georgia or Texas. Whites are gross enough to deal with, I don't want to deal with an even worse version of them. Some people who live there just choose to ignore how their rights/political power is being withheld and taken more each day. Another thing about the southern locations that people will downplay is that while there are racists elsewhere, some of these areas are dangerous. There's a lot of poverty, lack of education, and dysfunction down there, and some of it is like a bee's nest of depravity. I wouldn't want to be there or bring loved ones there. There's white people there who I don't even want to tell you more about. But again, it's a very personal decision. Some people love Atlanta and the suburbs of Texas. 1 Like |
