If at all the project will continue, it will stop at the Lagos-Ogun border for obvious reasons!
If the intention was really to build that road, it would have been contracted to three different construction companies like Jonathan did Ibadan expressway.

If anyone from the Niger-Delta comes across the thread, please remember that some of you voted for Peter Obi. Peter Obi has demonstrated he is against the progress of the Niger Delta communities. The bulk of the funds for running our economy comes from the Niger Delta. But he says a big project to criss-cross the Niger Delta is a misplaced priority.

Note that the US spent their way out of recession through the New Deal which focused on massive infrastructural development across board, including roads. There is no nation interested in progress that is currently not engaged in one form of infrastructural development or the other. But the one which is 60 years old overdue in Nigeria, Peter Obi is fighting it, simply because he lost election.

If he didn't build anything meaningful in Anambra, I think it is disingenuous to fight against something being built through the Niger Delta. Thanks to Tinubu's ingenuity, Lagos is undergoing massive infrastructural development and embarking on an audacious railway project which the likes of Rufai Oseni would condemn.

Peter Obi doesn't want the progress for the Niger Delta. He just wants to get the votes and use anti-developmental and archaic ideas to ruin this country completely.

Only vote for those who want progress to be in your land. With this tweet, Peter Obi has shown he is not interested in that.

As for the Landmark CEO who has been all over the place making noise, can he show us documents where the shorelines and beaches in his location were ceded to him? If he violated the right of way, it is evil for him to complain. The best thing to do was to meet and find ways to relocate his business or shift to an area where the coastal highway won't pass. When I travelled through Accra-Cape Coast highway, part of which was adjacent to the ocean, it was a beautiful sight with the blue waters! Guess what? Beaches still functioned!!

Just to add, a road network is also a delight for businesses. Food can easily be transported from rural areas to urban centers and those in rural communities would make good money.

But Peter Obi does not want this.

You're surely joking

So why have the Government not completed the East West road?

Work is ongoing on the East-West Road. I am confident Tinubu would complete it.

The initial problem was awarding it to an incompetent contractor.

What Tinubu intends to do is to have simultaneous construction and repairs nationwide.

This would surely create jobs and help the local economies where the roads pass.

Re: Peter Obi Vehemently Condemns Lagos-Calabar Highway As A Misplaced Priority by casualobserver: 4:35pm On Apr 30
The ignorance of Obi and many of those criticizing this project is they assume govt is paying for it. Govt is only paying a small percentage of the cost of the project. The project is being financed by private funds and will be recouped from tolls. Govt does not have and can can never find the N15 trillion required for this project. That is more than half our entire budget for 2024.. If Obi truly thinks it is the govt building this road, then it is more proof he is ignorant and has no business being president of the country.

You are a tenant. A house costs 50m and you cannot afford to build but a developer says pay me 10% up front, I will build the house for you, you will pay me rent you are already paying to a landlord and after 25 years I will have made my profit and the house belongs to you. Will you not agree? Do you have 50m to build a house? Imagine then some simpletons (Obi and his mob) come to say it is a waste of money? Which money? Is the 50m your own money!!!

It is only in Nigeria that they will ask you to put down N1trillion as your own contribution towards building a road costing N15 trillion and you will say it is a waste of money!!! It is only Nigeria a tenant will be offered to pay 5m today to own a house worth N50m and he will say it is a waste of money. We are cursed with dead brain cells!!

In 2015, Ben Ayade invited Buhari to turn off the sod to commence the project in Calabar. Unfortunately, the project never took off throughout the 8 years of Buhari's administration.

For those who don't know, the project was conceptualized more than 60 years ago, but never took off. Now, someone had the willpower to take it off, enemies of Nigeria are wailing.

Those of us from the Niger Delta support the project.

Cowardly rats.

No IBO dead or alive can stop that project.

OBASANJO is alive today to witness everything. Who is OBI? To me OBI is nobody if not for Nigeria situation. He is a nobody. Obasanjo, Baba Ayo Adebanjo and Doyin Okupe gave him a platform. Colonel Victor Banjo - a Yoruba planned Biafra war strategy, led Biafra to War. Eventually when he realized things cannot work, he opted for alternative options. They said he planned coup against Ojukwu, he was executed .

I pity the IBOS. This OBI is having propaganda depression.

Your late Uncle Chukwumerije started propaganda in Nigeria. We were told he was the Biafra Director of Information. While thousands of Biafra people were dying he was boasting and bragging on Biafra Radio that Biafra soldiers have killed Nigerian soldiers. He said they killed Murtala Muhammed and the entire soldiers. He said so many things. He said they killed Benjamin Adekunle and the entire Marine Commando .

I believe the way things are going another Chukwumerije will carry another propaganda again. During war, victimization crying will no longer work.

Same way he was demolishing houses and businesses in Anambra to make way for highway.

Hypocrite.

Dear @PeterObi

It appears you have allowed your electoral loss to convert you into a full blown pathological liar and a desperate man on a mission to always deceive.

How on earth would you say that over 100,000 jobs are about to be lost because of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project. How many times do you need to be told that the Landmark beach resort for instance, is not going to lose any of its buildings. Landmark has no building on the beach itself apart from chairs, tents, astro turfs etc. The Landmark towers, Landmark Apartments, their event centre and shopping arcade, are NOT affected by the demolition.

In fact the beach that is going to form part of the road is within the federal government's right of way, which makes any structure on that path an illegal structure. Are you saying if you are President, you will cede the federal government's right of way to any developer?

Meanwhile, as Governor of Anambra State, you demolished part of Premier Brewery in Onitsha to make way for road reconstruction and you said at the time that any building that stands in the way of road construction will be brought down with no compensation. You did not remember COMPASSION IN PUBLIC POLICY then or the effect on the business of Premier Brewery. What changed now? Your hypocrisy and short memory needs to be studied in a Philosophy school honestly.

In case you don't know, the value the Lagos-Calabar coastal road will bring to that corridor after construction far outweighs whatever structures that will be demolished. This is not even hard to comprehend. A new beach front will definitely emerge and tourism will be greatly boosted. It is now obvious that you are not capable of grand visioning. You only see the present.

If previous administrations in Lagos were only looking at the present with no grand vision, Landmark will not even have a place to erect his investments in the first place. The Lagos great seawall made it possible. The coastal road is a boulevard like no other within Lagos, and your wailing cannot stop it. I understand that you are a minimalist that thrives on doing the barest minimum with poor quality as your watchword, so, I'm not totally surprised that the scope of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road is shocking to you.

It's even amusing that you're complaining that the project is progressing at a fast pace and yet insinuating that the project will take 30 years to be completed or likely to be abandoned. Do you even listen to what you say sometimes?

My advice to you is just to sit back, relax and watch as Engr. Dave Umahi delivers what you think is impossible. Action is better than cho cho cho.

I also think you are threatened by the rising profile and undeniable competence of Minister of Works, Dave Umahi and the reality that he will one day become the first president of Nigeria from the South East in the 4th Republic while you take your place as one of most dangerously deceitful and bitter politician to have ever graced Nigeria's political landscape.

in what way is Umahi competent?

Why not wait for the project to be abandoned before complaining?

My reading is that some of you are filled with so much hate that any sign of progress is what you unite to fight.

Have you been to the US? Do you know the massive investments they did on roads? Do you know the impact of such infrastructure for the communities and for the government? Do you know if farmers can easily transport harvest, it would boost trade and help the economies of the local people?

Instead of being cynical, look on the bright side and start looking for opportunities for yourself.

It is an affront against the Yorubas. The IBOS will leave to regret it. OBI is nobody if Obasanjo, Baba Ayo Adebanjo and Doyin Okupe did not not give him hope. I rest my case here.

what has that got to do with the question I asked and how does it answer the question:
how is Obis condemnation of the project an affront against niger delta?
