Family / Re: Stop Forcing Your Children To Speak English by Gerrard59(m): 5:24am |
Onyiiobi7735: Yes na. In some sectors of the Nigerian economy, it is better to speak Yoruba and/or Hausa than Igbo. Cocoa was over $10K per tonne some weeks back. Where is cocoa mostly cultivated in Nigeria? Why are Afro Caribbeans and Latinos learning Igbo then? Learning because they want to watch Nollywood movies, not because they want to get jobs or transact business. It is a good export by Igbos though. That said, probably no point learning Yoruba since there are more indigenous Yorubas in the region. Why then is Igbo studied in Kenya,China, Mozambique, and not Yoruba or China? There are more Igbos than Yorubas in those places. BTW, when you say studied, is it a policy by those national governments or by individuals? Why is Igbo language recognised and studied in Germany, and not Hausa or Yoruba? Numbers again. More Igbos in Germany than Yorubas or Hausas. Again, I ask, s it a policy by those national governments or by individuals? Again, I reiterate, I am not against learning Igbo, but in the face of economic pressures, it makes sense learning the native language of the dominant environment you find yourself. |
Politics / Re: Tinubu: This Failure Has Made Buhari Look Like A Superstar - Oseni Rufai by Image123(m): 5:24am |
Israel07: i mentioned a corrupt fuel subsidy and exchange market that promotes rent seeking. Nothing is wrong with subsidy IF you can afford it. Whether it's truly back or not is not the problem. The problem is, is it affordable by the government? It makes sense for some subsidy to be paid so that the price of fuel per liter stays down and doesn't fluctuate every other week, at least till the currency ups and downs become stable. According to reports, the quantity of litres consumed is about half. That's one. The government is making like double of what they were making before, so they have more room to afford payment. That's commonsense. If i double your salary, it's easier for you to afford what you could not. Thirdly, from the rumors, it's even a different arrangement to pay for the alleged subsidy. As for Lagos state, like you said, you were young. Tinubu laid the foundation and the masterplan for all that Fashola 'achieved'. Apart from even the masterplan, you need money to do anything significant. Tinubu's government engineered the financial success of Lagos state. If you want to argue about that, then we should not even be talking. Timing is key. i guess your parents stopped you from driving at some point. It gets to a time that they pray for you to drive. Decisions change. People didn't trust the GEJ administration with funds, they were wasteful to be mild. Also, they could afford to pay subsidy. They were making 'crazy' money. It's unlike a period when subsidy was choking the country with debts. Finally, GEJ had no will power or gumption to stick to a tough decision, Tinubu does. Like i said earlier on, be patient. |

Politics / Re: Cross River Secures $3.5bn For Bakassi Deep Seaport by idealogical: 5:20am |
Lagos built LDSP and is going ahead with the largest in Badagry, and Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Cross River are going privately sourcing funds and building their own, but some people shout every day that the only reason why Lagos is ahead is because of deep seaport and the FG is denying them a deep seaport because of tribalism and marginalization and because they want them to overtake Lagos state. 1. You cannot have a deep seaport because you don't have any sea. 2. You have yet to seek approval from the FG to build a deep seaport, your leaders don't even talk about it. Question, why is it so hard to do the same as other states are doing, like, draw up a plan, seek FG approval, and source funds? Shebi you have billionaires and nearly all the imports from abroad end up in the SE, why are you not eager to build your seaport if that's truly the case.? I just wonder. |
