gabng: IK, By mere looking at the VIN, I know they are all 407. The 4th digit said so. For 406, its 8 (VF38). For 607, its 9 (VF39). For 407, its 6 (VF36). * V = Europe. * F= France. * 3= Peugeot. * 6= 407. etc. Please, I didnt mean that EW10 407 is easier to maintain, after all my ES9J4S is easy to maintain as well, if not easier. What I meant was that its average engine in EW series, in terms of power and economy. All EW engines in 407 have MTB (Motorised Throttle Body). So maintenance cost would be the same. As for the result, will get back soon on that. Ikenna |

Ordinally, there is nothing wrong with AL4. But technically, its a complex Auto box. Meaning, if anything goes wrong in that box, you will need an AL4 specialist to rebuild it, not just an auto box specialist. The solenoid which usually cause the AL4 failure is not available in Nigeria, unless you can source it outside the country. But if you can afford to replace the entire box "if" it fails, then the issue is resolved. *Note. There are people i know that have driven their Lions with AL4 & 4HP20 auto transmissions for more than 2 years now and they have not experienced any transmission issues. So, it's a black and white thing that it must fail during your ownership of the car. They probably have been rebuilt or replaced in Europe before they acquired them, by the previous owners. Or that they are just lucky. Find in page 8 of this thread what the AL4 solenoid looks like: https://www.nairaland.com/1003701/peugeot-thread-psa-community/8 Ikenna |

It should be available in Peugoet dealership, but it will cost $$$$. ASD Motors had it sometime last year or so when i asked them (have forgotten the price though). But they didnt have a complet set then. I think 406 engine ECU was out of stock then, but the new BSI Unite and Key set were available. Will find out and get back to you. But you can as well get the BSI set/kit (BSI Unit, Engine ECU and Keys) from a scrapped 406 at Used parts markets. It should cost less. Difference is that it will double your mileage on the instrument panel. All you need is to swap the transponders in the 2 keys. You dont need to change the switch, but the set will come with the switch anyway. If you are buying a used one, you will need to get the VIN of the car they were removed from and the DAM number as well, for PP2000 diagnosis. Otherwise, you wont be able to diagnose or use PP2000 on that car anymore, even if the car starts running again. A new set means you will have to take it to a Peugeot dealership to code the 3 components and update the engine ECU software with the last update from Peugeot. The new ones will be blank, until reprogrammed and updated. But before going down this route of replacement, check the relays and fuses on the BSI unit. The BSI unit is behind the fuse box under the steering wheel. Ikenna. |

Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(m): 7:30am On Dec 01, 2013 |
gabng: Availability of EW10 parts shouldn't be an issue in any part of Nigeria. Most D9 and 407 on our roads have EW10 engine, including some 307. Or have you forgotten that PAN assembled and sold these cars in Nigeria too? As for affordability. Sorry, genuine Peugeot parts are pricey. Peugeots are not cheap cars to run, if that's what you are asking. Good morning. Ikenna |

I took this picture of my 2 impressive irresistable Lions about 5 minutes ago, after i realised the way i parked both of them. The King of Lions and The King of Foxes! It's more like "Father (505 V6) and Son (406 V6)". Lol! Closer look Ikenna 2 Likes |

I just couldn't resist capturing the moment, seeing a Father and Son in an interesting conversation: "My dear son. How are you today? Hope you showed them your CLAWS while you were out there on the road this morning?" etc. That what was going on in the above picture. Ikenna |

Boki: If you can afford phase II that cost more than the Phase I, then go for it. Phase II is 2004-2010. Phase I has VAN-bus, while Phase II has CAN-bus electrical system, a better system. Ikenna |

Dgame7: @Ikenna thanks I want a 4cyl. U re really the lion king. The simba of our tym. Then, I would suggest you go for the EW family engine of any of the 3 below: 1. EW 7 : 115 hp. 2. EW 10: 138 or 145 hp. 3. EW 12: 170 hp. The above listed engines are good and are all 4 cylinder petrol engines. You can choose any of the 3, depending on how heavy right footed you can be behind the wheel. EW engines succeeded XU series. An improvement on XU engines. Ikenna |

obawale: Then go to APO mechanic village. Locate France Line. France line is directly behind Benz line. You will find the Multifunction display screen there. Or you go up a little bit further, after a newly constructed Fuel station. You will find another Peugeot parts line there, mostly used parts. You may get at Gudu market, but you will find mostly new parts there. Good luck. Ikenna 1 Like |

Hi House. Hope we all had a splendid weekend. my fox has been acting quite unpredictably, at interval I see the engine immobiliser sign and am unable to start the car. At such times the display reads ENGINE IMMOBILISER FAULT. why am really pissed with this development is that av been careful never to start the car without waiting for the STOP sign to clear. When this happens I simply switch of the ignition and allow the BSI to go to sleep and then try again which usually solves the problem. Why its so annoying is that it sometimes happens when am in a haste to get off. Intend to scan the car tomorrow and clear any possible fault codes stored in its brain but am posting this problem coz am open to tips and experiences. @ Ikenna. Still remember your tips on how to deactivate the immobilizer sign by depressing the key and counting to ten and removing and reinserting the key again but the thing is that this time around the car starts after switching ignition on and off and am really wondering just what the cause is....? |

Pls, my 406 EW 10 engine is leaking engine oil in to the manifold air intake through the vacuum hose thereby causing the the oil level to be low. I took it to a mechanic who said he would have to put new rings and bearings which set me back about 40k including workmanship. A couple of days I started hearing sound from the engine like that of the valves or bearings and on checking lo and behold the same issue. Pls, is there a solution or do I need to change the engine ? Also how much wil EW 10 skeleton cost? Thanks and God bless. |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(m): 10:40pm On Dec 08, 2013 |
tirnom: Pls, my 406 EW 10 engine is leaking engine oil in to the manifold air intake through the vacuum hose thereby causing the the oil level to be low. I took it to a mechanic who said he would have to put new rings and bearings which set me back about 40k including workmanship. I don't understand what you mean by EW10 skeleton ? You mean engine block? I wouldn't know where the oil entering your intake manifold was from, cylinder head or cylinders. But if truly the oil was from the cylinders, then replacing only the rings was a waste of money. Because for the cylinders to have worn that bad, the pistons and cylinder walls must have worn badly too (am not sure EW10 has piston liners). Trust me, 40k doesn't come close to rebuilding an EW10 engine with genuine parts. Do you know how much a set of genuine EW10 pistons cost? It cost 80k+ at a Peugeot dealership here. You may end up spending more than 150k to rebuild an EW10 with genuine parts. So, if one can't afford to rebuild these engines with genuine parts, it's better to buy a used/tokunbo egine then. I want to believe your engine must have been running very cold which led to the failure of the cylinders. Do you run only water in the cooling system? Did you remove the thermostat? Is your radiator fan spinning constantly as soon engine starts running ? What engine oil do you use? Ikenna |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by tirnom: 11:35pm On Dec 08, 2013 |
Sorry for the mix up forgive me, pls. I meant engine block. The thermostat is intact. The fan does not spin when the car starts. I use Quartz 7000. Thanks for your help. |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(m): 4:37am On Dec 09, 2013 |
tirnom: Sorry for the mix up forgive me, pls. Speaking of intake manifold , where air & fuel mixture takes place before go into the combustion chambers via intake valves. It means the intake manifold has no direct contact with the cylinders. So i would suspect the cylinder head as the source of oil in the intake manifold. The noise you hear could be coming from the camshaft or valves, depending on how it sounds. Ikenna |

Good morning house, how was the weekend. Just want to share with u d experiences I had with my 406, EW10 engine. For about eight months I was not able to use my AC because the AC evaporator in the dash board was faulty-leaking. I was told that d dash board had to be removed b4 they can access d avaporator and because of this I didn't attempt to repair d AC system until my mech recommended a 406 electricain specialist to me. Last week monday, they dismantled d dashboard and put another evaporator and coupled it back. Since then my AC has been very chill without any electrical fault araising. In addition, I was able to repair my fuel gauge and my speedometer. This guys are good. I'm now enjoying my lion more than ever b4. |
