Nigerian Elected Leaders And Other African Leaders- Learn From This, Pls!! by nas00(m): 3:36pm On Oct 02, 2012 |
[/quote]BOGOTA—Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced Monday that he has prostate cancer. He said the tumour was caught early and would be removed this week. I hope all nigerian (and african) leaders in public offices learn from this man and conduct themselves in a civilized manner. We don't want insults to our collective intelligence any more. A situation when a 'public servant' takes ill and is flown abroad for treatment.. only for the nation to be told they went for some much needed rest abroad is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Governor Seriake Dickson, rumoured to be ill, is presently out of the country. The cover story for him was: "he went to woo foreign investors." Late Umar Musa Yar'Adua wasted away in Saudi Arabia under mysterious circumstances. Likewise, former president Attah Mills of Ghana died in a rather shocking manner following a protracted illness most of his countrymen didn't know about. Indeed, he claimed he was hale 'n hearty on return from an overseas medical checkup days before his demise. It is not an offence or fraud to fall sick, so why are our leaders doing this to themselves? Infact, it is part of the transparency/ accountability and mutual regard required of any public office holder to disclose to the nation their health status if need be. Who buys my ideas? |
