HURRAY NSE ALL SHARE INDEX NOW IN THE POSITIVE 0.15% The NSE All Share Index made it to the positive zone this year!!! What a fantastic performance by the NSE courtesy of MTN. This new level is going to put a lot of funds, with anything to do with Nigeria under extreme pressure. Thus, whether you want it or not if you want your NAV to improve you must have MTN in your portfolio Case Closed. Therefore, do not expect any big fall in MTN share price, at least for the short to medium term. Caution: This is for information purpose only. Data used are assumed to be correct. However, you may want to verify the data from an appropriate source. Also, Institutions can afford to suffer big losses without going burst compared with an individual, you cannot follow them blindly (you need to at least have some knowledge/your own plan). This is where I really miss Fxuser and BBM. Would love to know what indicator or strategy to use to study the index chart right now. There has to be a way to discount the distortion to the index by the combined weight of MTNN and Dangote Cement. The increase in the ASI is in no way correlated to the reality on the floor. |

Gtb and zenith chapter closes if implemented. Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has sought the restriction of banks’ access to government securities such as bonds and treasury bills. Speaking at the recently-held Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja, Emefiele said the apex bank needs to initiate policies that will facilitate the restriction . Reason for the restriction: Emefiele said the Monetary Policy Committee members voted to restrict Deposit Money Bank’s access to government securities in a bid to protect the private sector. According to him, banks’ easy access to government security lead to the crowding out of private sector lending and this is not good for the economy, he said. “IN VIEW OF THE ABUNDANT OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO BANKS FOR UNFETTERED ACCESS TO GOVERNMENT SECURITIES, WHICH TENDS TO CROWD OUT PRIVATE SECTOR LENDING, THE COMMITTEE CALLED ON THE BANK TO PROVIDE A MECHANISM FOR LIMITING DMBS ACCESS TO GOVERNMENT SECURITIES SO AS TO REDIRECT BANKS’ LENDING FOCUS TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR, NOTING THAT THIS WOULD SPUR THE MUCH- NEEDED GROWTH IN THE ECONOMY. IT CALLED ON THE GOVERNMENT TO USE ALL MACHINERY AT ITS DISPOSAL TO INCREASE TAX REVENUE TO ENABLE THE GOVERNMENT TO FUND ITS BUDGET ADEQUATELY.” Speaking further, Emefiele disclosed that banks have a required minimum number of treasury bills they must invest in so as to remain liquid. However, as the CBN has observed, banks have been focusing on buying government securities instead of focusing on providing financing facilities to the private sector. “THE TRUTH IS THAT ACCORDING TO OUR OWN REGULATIONS, THERE IS A PARTICULAR MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF TREASURY BILLS OR GOVERNMENT SECURITIES THAT THE BANK MUST INVEST IN ORDER TO REMAIN LIQUID. BUT AGAIN, WE HAVE OBSERVED – AND UNFORTUNATELY TOO AND INCREASINGLY SO – THAT THE BANKS, RATHER THAN FOCUSING ON GRANTING CREDIT TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR, THEY TEND TO DIRECT THEIR FOCUS TO MAINLY IN BUYING GOVERNMENT SECURITIES.” 4 Likes 1 Share |

When you have a Governor of CBN talking like this, you know that there is a problem. TBs even though are bought majorly by the banks, the bulk of it relates to the deposit of the customers. If you restrict access to TB's for the banks, you are simply shutting the door to their customers. You cannot force banks to lend scarce resources to serial debtors that will refuse to pay back. locodemy: 3 Likes |

Godlylifeoneart: Investors should naturally take money to Emerging Markets because stocks in both countries will be falling and there will be tit for tat policies which will eventually affect productivities in both countries. Ultimately, it will cause contagion effect on the world because as US and China slows, every other thing slows on other parts of the world. Money must move around. The money can't stay idly in a place where there are uncertain policies. |

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Nobody: 8:11pm On May 23, 2019 |
RabbiDoracle: Definitely an incubating contagious effect which Nigeria as a nation is not prepared for.. No one can predict the magnitude effect of lingering Trade war 2 on Africa stocks exchange. We might see NSEASI at sub 28k as it's now if we exclude MTNN and dangote cem. Let's hope for the best. The impending globa collapse might be worse than the great economic depression of the old |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by DeRuggedProf: 9:43pm On May 23, 2019 |
rebekah2011: Exactly. How is the CBN urging the Government to do everything possible to assist banks to recover NPLs? Most of the chronic debtors have connections in high places, untouchables. Let Emefiele put forward his salary and personal allowances for borrowing. These bankers are very smart, they are like gas, they will always find a way to leak when under extreme pressure.... 5 Likes 1 Share |
