The head of the Egyptian army has appeared live on television, announcing the suspension of the constitution. General Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, flanked by religious and military leaders, said the chief justice of constitutional court would take the powers of the presidency. His announcement means President Mohammed Morsi is no longer in power. Anti-Morsi protesters in Cairo's Tahrir Square gave out a huge cheer in response to the speech. The move follows four days of mass street protests against Mr Morsi, and an ultimatum issued by the military which expired on Wednesday afternoon. The current whereabouts of Mr Morsi are unknown. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-23173794 |

I won't call it a coup. It's part of Egypt's evolution towards a true, secular and genuine democracy. Morsi lost legitimacy to rule by implementing essentially the agenda of the Society of Muslim Brothers (Muslim Brotherhood). MB is just too greedy. 2 Likes |

Re: Military Coup In Egypt Ousts President Morsi by Nobody: 8:35pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
@peace-1, It's still a coup technically but you can't deny the overwhelming popular support for the coup. 1. Muslim Brotherhood should have followed the example of Turkey if it has Islamic agenda. First bring economic prosperity before introducing islamic bias. But it chose to go for power while the state was in economic ruins. For the past one year, nothing has worked in Egypt. Instead of building consensus to even mask the agenda, it went for the jugular straight away without apology. 2.What's happening is good if it can ultimately result in a genuine democracy because any future president in Egypt will see consensus and perhaps secularism as watchwords. 6 Likes |

kkkp: For me dis is nt far frm over..dis is d beginin of dere problems..Egypt may bcum anoda Syria I don't think so. A more conservative Islamist party is even backing the decision. It's more of alienation of the Muslim Brotherhood and a violent backlash would seal the hope of MB ever ruling Egypt again. |

Revolution gone awry, The egyptians are a confused lot. The voted overwhelmingly for morsi and his muslim brotherhood. Now they want him out when he has started implementing his parties hardcore fanatic ideology. Remembering with nostalgia the good old days of hosni mubarak. Revolution does no one any good. I can give loads of case study. Ukraine, iranian, etc, It will simply be hijacked along the way by interests totally alien to the masses who started and drove the revolution. This calls to the case of the speaker tambuwal, That we need a revolution. Talk is cheap. Ignore the opportunist. It is him and his likes that will hijack it along the way. 2 Likes |

Wrong move!! the military has triggered a trend, moh'd Morsy was democratically elected & d parliament should be responsible if he's to be impreached, the pro-Morsy supports will become the new opposition in the future, thus becoming a trend that could end up violent!!unfortunate |

Even though am not in support of the Morsi guy and his unfriendly way of leading his people with numerous mistakes, what has happened there this evening is purely a coup d'etat by the military and should not be encouraged in any way. There are other ways of going about this democratically. Democracy is of the will of the people and not by force via military power. |
