Officers of Life Camp Police Division on Tuesday apprehended 91 suspected criminals around Kado, Daki Biyu and Jabi Masallaci areas of the FCT.

The arrests, our reporter learnt, followed intelligence report from residents of the area. The Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Mohammed Umar, said the raid on the criminal hotspots was conducted to clean up areas suspected to be harbouring criminals.

“We decided to raid all the criminal hideouts and hot spots within Kado, Daki Biyu and Jabi Masallaci, 91 suspects were arrested and are undergoing screening and interrogation at our division. “The exercise is aimed at removing all the criminal elements within that axis that are giving us a bad name,” the police chief stated.

He also said that the rate of armed robbery cases in Life Camp and its environment has reduced because of the continued raid by the division, saying it takes just 5 minutes for the police in the division to respond to emergency calls.

When contacted, FCT police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel confirmed the arrest and stated that the FCT Commissioner of Police is using the exercise to clean up the city.

She said: “Every area in FCT would be touched by this raid; all the police divisions are not resting until there would be no criminals in Abuja. Equally, our men on stop and search along Gwarzo roundabout, Asokoro recovered a vehicle suspected to have been stolen during the raid.

“The vehicle, a Toyota Sienna with registration number AH 484 ABBC was recovered when the occupants, on noticing a police check point, ran into the bush abandoning the said vehicle,” she said. The FCT PPRO said investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
