When You're Asked To Log In Into Your Facebook Account During A Job Interview by tobechi74: 11:12am On Sep 03, 2013 |
Imagine you’ve been on the job market for about a long time. Finally, you land a killer opportunity, pass the phone screen and show up to an interview with a hiring manager. Just as you think you’re about to close the deal, she spins her computer screen around and asks you to login to your Facebook account. What do you do? Would you be proud and comfortable to let them go through your wall 4 Likes |

Now, that is one nosy hiring manager! I mean, what's cool about being proud or comfortable with allowing a stranger manipulate me into permiting an invasion of my privacy? If you need to do such, then at least be sensible and respectful enough to do it subtly! Smart HR managers can get information on job applicants from the social media they frequently use without being so obvious! Frankly, I just think its rude!!! 15 Likes |

If you give out Ur password, you ave already failed the interview....its simply indicates you can reveal what is meant to be company's secret for a favour from an outsider, if such is entrusted oin your care. I see no reason why U can't tell the hiring manager, that your facebook password is strictly personal or U can just give it out for personal reasons. This shows you have self-dignity 107 Likes |

D question is somewhat misleadin, we should note dat d hiring manager never asked for d password, she asked for d candidate to log in, and as d screen is turned towards d person,@least a modicum of privacy is observed, one can always change passwords. I know its unusual but i dont think its too strange considering some ppl's names are unspellable on facebook especially wit some current fads "Horlayeancah"(olayinka), and dis is even one of d easier ones, as for me, i would login by myself and give her d pc to check me out online, i am one of those once-a-year posters, so i think am good. 20 Likes |

which kain invasion of prvacy b that? if they want to invade my privacy cos of a job intrviw, then they can start with sucking my CANDY.. then i'll know they r serious. rawwwbish. i can also tell her i do not hava facebook page cos i have not had time to join up but she can permit me to open one in 30 mins if it is really needed for the job. she can bend over and let me invade her privacy if she seriously wants to play the invasion game 4 Likes |

But if you actually google this issue, you will find out its now a HR practice in most countries with or without privacy debate. I understand some HR people have a backend means of seeing your profile, dont know how possible that is. Organisations just want to be sure they know who they are employing. 2 Likes |

spongeback: Am not on Facebook, but if they ask for my nairaland ID I would gladly oblige So what if you did? It means you lied? What else did you lie about? For me o, like someone stated, I would say like I told my boss Boss, I respectfully decline to provide such information on the basis that it's private an non-work related, I'd like to keep it that way... Any questions? |

For me, no qualms. I'll just make sure I carefully monitor the interviewer so he doesn't go where he's not supposed to go. Just my wall abi? You can have a look. I have no skeleton to hide. Besides, you'll likely discern some of my not-too-ovbious qualities. But I must make sure I change my password afterwards just in case there's some key-logger on the pc. And ehen, if you don't find anything untoward, make sure you give the job. 2 Likes |

Very simple. I'd politely ask what information she's looking to have access to and suggest alternative ways of getting them. I cannot log in on a strange computer for security reasons (and that will also apply when you have an organisation account.) Keystroke logger alert. Talking about alternative, how about you log into facebook and from there,I can direct you on how to view my profile. The organisation needs to know you want the job and that they need you. However, they don't expect this to affect your decision making. If for a job you are quick to throw caution out the window, imagine what you'd do with company information just to secure targets. I want the job badly but I am not logging in on this system, you can let me get my ipad from my bag (or phone at worst). 4 Likes |
