I Will Not Contest 2015 Election-jonathan. by Kingsley1000(m): 11:27am On Oct 11, 2013 |
On feb 1,2011 BY DANIEL IDONOR ANKARA, TURKEY — President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, said he has no ambition to stay in office beyond 2015, assuring Nigerians in Diaspora that while he will not contest the 2015 election, he will ensure that this year’s election is free and fair. The President promised that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in key sectors of the economy — security, power, education, road, health amongst others. “Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to addressed and we are working towards that with vigour. But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.” Jonathan said this while interacting with Nigerians mainly diplomats working in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UNECA, and the African Union, AU, in Addis-Ababa. While fielding questions from those present at the interactive session on whether Nigerians abroad will vote, Jonathan said: “I would have loved that the Nigerians in Diaspora vote this year but to be frank with you, that is going to be difficult now. Presently, the law does not allow the voting outside Nigeria and so this year Nigerians in Diaspora will not vote but I will work towards it by 2015 even though I will not be running for election.” On the issue of security, Jonathan said the government was doing everything possible to arrest the situation. He disclosed that all those involved in the October 1 bombing had been arrested and were being prosecuted. He, however, said he ordered the release of the car dealers because they were just businessmen who could not have known that the vehicles were to be used for such heinous crime. On education, the President said, the nine new approved universities were to be specialised and to be headed by at least three Nigerians experts in Diaspora. On the concerns raised of having a database of Nigerian experts in Diaspora, President Jonathan assured that he was working on creating a forum for interaction between them and government and also develop a database, where experts needed to address the various challenges of the economy will be drawn. He hinted that this was why the Diaspora Commission was being set up as the bill was already before the National Assembly. The President also disclosed that the government is looking towards reviewing the country’s foreign policy to ensure that Nigeria gets maximum benefit from its roles and contributions to international organizations like the AU, UN and ECOWAS. He lamented that right now Nigeria’s contributions were not being recognized adding that “there is need for Nigeria to have something in return for our investments. We are investing so much but it is not being noticed and there is need to reverse that trend. On the concerns about road network and transportation in the country, President Jonathan assured that the railway system will be revamp because presently heavy duty vehicles were destroying the roads. “Why we cannot have continuous road maintenance for now because no contractor wants to go into it because of the continuous pressure on the road by heavy duty vehicles. That is why we are working to ensure that we revamp the rail”. The President also assured that Nigerians working in international organization and institutions would be issued diplomatic passports. He directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia to submit the list of those qualified within the shortest possible time to him. On the 35 per cent affirmative action implementation and the domestication of protocols signed, he assured that he will present before the National Assembly within the shortest possible |

I don't have a problem with him contesting,I think he should, but what I have problem with is his integrity, our president is a blatant liar. Trying to twist fact in 21st century that he never said he was not contesting is nauseating,he could have own up and ask for more time people will understand, but lying.......nah that's too bad. |

citizenY: @ above.....very appropriate picture.....GEJ has no foresight ...that is why his mouth no get clutch.... his handlers must always watch out...but with Doyin and Abati.... hmmmn.... You guys have called him clueless, claimed that he has not done anything and seen him as a weakling. You consider him a political featherweight, an under performer, a persecutor of Amaechi, the financier of Boko Haram, the instigator of ALL the violent attacks from North to South, the financier of Fasheun OPC and a man who has lost connection with the electorates. To you APC folks, Amaechi will gather all the votes in Rivers State, Rochas will gather the rest of the SE while Buhari will sweep the North. My worry is that despite ALL these advertised weaknesses of Mr President and his near zero chance of winning the 2015 election should he run, you APC folks are still so scared of his running. You manufacture all kind of stuff daily, including the above article, to persuade him not to run while telling us to our face that your Buhari can change his mind on his vow never to contest elections again since 'even God changes his mind'. If GEJ is weak, a political weakling and a liability to his political party, politics 101 suggest that you should be encouraging him to contest to make the victory easier for you guys. This logic does not connect. Something is not adding up. For some of us who are strong supporters of Mr President, only GEJ reserve the right to choose whether to run or not and from his body language, he seem to be interested. Once he declares his interest, the political jungle will realign within a month and trade offs (the hallmark of politics) will be made and he will go on to win the election again and hand over to his successor (most likely of PDP) to continue transforming this country. I suggest that you APC folks should 'please be guided' 7 Likes |

@FRank C.... Politics 101 dictates that from day one, politicians should watch out for inconsistent statements ESPECIALLY WHERE THE ELEMENTS ARE BEYOND THEIR CONTROL...and inconsistency has been GEJ's trademark from day one. It is very amusing that his handlers have been unable to gag him whether at part level or from his political /media advisers. The same applies to madam. Secondly, as a voter, I watch out for consistency in any politician and despite all my efforts at scoring this guy, he comes up short. I want a leader to inspire me in words and deeds, and I encourage GEJ to inspire me from now henceforth. A performance like the last media chat is a typical let down. |

citizenY: @FRank C.... Exactly my point, I also know that there are 'e-millions' of eligible voters like you who 'loathe' such 'inconsistencies'. Why not lure him out to run for election so that you can nail him at the polls? If really that you are so convinced of your points above, you should be among those that should be telling him that he should run so that your APC can disgrace him at the polls because of those 'inconsistencies'. You seem to be doing the opposite. Asking him not to run so that someone that does not carry the 'baggage of inconsistencies' will replace him. Doing this will only stop someone like you and other e-millions of eligible voters from voting out PDP and voting in your messiah APC. Or don't you want your APC to win again? When you people talk like this, one thing becomes clear to the discerning. You are scared of meeting Mr President at the polls, so you want a weaker candidate that your APC can easily defeat. All the noise against GEJ are just lies. To the contrary, he is a performer, a strong candidate, and a good leader and you are scared that the electorate will notice this and vote him in again, so you need to make as much noise as possible to distract them from this fact. 1 Like |

@Frank You are making a grave error if you regard references to inconsistencies as opposition to Mr President as urging him not to run. My position is that he is not inspiring confidence in some of us. This in no way means that I do not want him to present himself for re election. As a proponent of Politics 101, you are making a mistake by regarding criticisms as direct opposition to Mr President. He has every right to run, s do you. As a citizen of this country, I am urging my president to inspire me. In the same vein, I am asking his handlers to make him control the inconsistencies he portrays, that make him uninspiring. Is that too much to ask? I have no reason to entertain fears of his standing for election, once more, as I want the best for my country. You should realise that not all of us see politics from the prism of APC, PDP or whichever party. All we want is good government for the good of all. Please go through my posts again and see if there is anywhere I said GeJ should not stand for election. |
