AWKA—SIX governors from the South East and South South geo-political zones met yesterday, in Awka and announced that a Southern Summit will be held in the first week of January, 2014.No venue for the summit has been named.

The governors that attended the Awka meeting were Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Godswil Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Theodore Orji of Abia, Sullivan Chime of Enugu and host, Peter Obi of Anambra. Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi was represented by his deputy, Mr. Dave Umahi.

Governors from the two zones that did not attend the meeting were Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers and Rochas Okorocha of Imo.

The meeting lasted more than four hours and when it was time to brief journalists, the only issue stated was the proposed Southern summit.
Addressing reporters at the end of the meeting, Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River said the summit would attract prominent leaders from the southern states.

According to Imoke, the summit will offer a platform for cross-fertilization of ideas and contributions of input on common needs of the southern zones and the country with the ultimate aim of engendering economic and other activities that would be to the greater glory of Nigeria.

The governors after assessing the state of the nation, reiterated their total support for the government of President Goodluck Jonathan and called on Nigerians to support him in his efforts and determination to make Nigeria a better place for all Nigerians.

They also encouraged Nigerians to promote only those things that would promote the unity and progress of the country, instead of highlighting issues that tend to cause tension in the country.

After addressing reporters, Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi introduced the APGA candidate in the Anambra State gubernatorial election, Dr. Willie Obiano to them and Obiano joined them in a group photograph.

This is good for the Eastern region.

The part that sweet me pass is part where Dr Obiano (my new boss) was introduced into the governors league and equally took group picture with them.
