Crises: PDP And APC Political Skeleton by Kingspin(m): 11:52am On Nov 30, 2013
Having carefully observed the
happenings so far, I've arrived
at a few conclusions which are
devoid of any value judgement:
1. Bamanga Tukur has proved to
be the most powerful Chairman
of the PDP since inception. The
Govs have been pampered over
the years and have garnered
enormous influence to the point of the determining who
becomes the President amongst
their fold. No sitting PDP
chairman has ever been able to
successfully stand his ground
against his state gov.let alone 7 Govs.
2. The discordant tunes from the
defunct G7 shows that they
were not even as focused,
formidable and united as the
media would have us believe.
3. The rebellion against
Jonathan and Tukur is not so
much about the style of
governance or rescuing the
party (as they would have us
believe), as it is about personal ambitions and who occupies
Aso rock in 2015.
4. Party supremacy and the
leadership of the President are
sacrosanct in every Presidential
system. There seems to be an
attempt to restore that order,
albeit defectively.
5. There seems to be a balance
of power and a reconfiguration
of our political system. I have
always canvassed for two strong
parties like we had in 1993. I'm
glad those days seem to be coming back.
6. What defines a party? The
name or its ideology and
individuals? I hope APC can
manage their identity
considering the alarming
defections from PDP. I just hope we don't end up with two
identical parties.
7. Why must the reconciliatory
meeting BTW the President and
the defunct G7 Govs go on? I
think the situation has been
damaged beyond redemption. I
frankly think the President should concentrate on
consolidating his strongholds if
he must contest in 2015.
Nothing can make the President
win in a state like Kano for
instance, even if he prostrates for Kwankwaso. Rivers is
anybody's guess. Amaechi and a
few of his supporters won't stop
the South South from rallying
behind the President when the
chips are down......
8. The real battle ground for me,
remains the South West. The
President must do his best to
penetrate the West especially
through Mimiko in Ondo State.
9. For APC, I think they've been
impressive so far. But, alot remain undone. They must
concentrate on keeping the
South West under wraps. They
must also work assiduously to
keep the northwest and northeast under wraps. PDP still
has a very strong following
there, regardless of the current
happenings. They must also
devise another strategy for the
middle belt because so far, PDP is fully on ground over there.
10. From the above analysis, the
West and the core North are
substantially APC, while the
Middle Belt and the core South
are substantially PDP. Fairly
balanced if u ask me. Success will now depend on a
formidable propaganda, deep
pockets and most importantly, a
politically sargacious candidate.
