Higher Everyday FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2017 WHAT YOU RISK IN SINNING TEXT: PSALM 51:11 "Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me" (Psalm 51: 11). Allan Smith, a young man risked losing everything on their big farmland, when he disobeyed his dad. He failed to heed his dad's warning and rolled the heavy cart into the farmland coast. As a result, he earned his father's frown and lost every privilege he had. Sad! Isn't it? Are you like Smith? If you are disconnected from God, your prayers will not be answered. You stand the risk of being separated from God forever (Psalm 51: 2) Every sin you commit is an offence to God and God cannot condone sin; that is why if you choose to keep committing sin without repentance, you will stop feeling His presence in your life. Finally, you risk losing your soul because the moment you sin, you have signed your death warrant. But you can escape the problems. Jerry Bridges says, "Frequent contemplation on the holiness of God and His constant hatred for sin is a strong deterrent against trifling with sin." However, repentance is the first thing. Repent and never delay for your tomorrow is not guaranteed. • Challenge: "Repent and wait no longer." • Prayer: "Oh God, save me today." • Quote: "Your tomorrow is not guaranteed." • Bible Reading in one Year: Isaiah 3: 24- 26 See more here: 1 Like 1 Share |

Higher Everyday SATURDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2017 SOME CONDITIONS FOR SERVICE TEXT: ACTS 6:8 "Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business" (Acts 6:8.) God's call is on all Christians for service. Some of us think that one must be an adult before serving God. Others assume that if you are not a pastor, teacher or an evangelist, then you are not serving God. However, the truth is that one can serve at any level. In our text, men were appointed just to serve food. But what were the conditions? The candidates must be (1) honest, (2) full of the Holy and (3) full of wisdom. Before you are full of the Holy Ghost, you must be born again and sanctified. God requires honesty and wisdom in service. Ask and God will give you wisdom for His service. Philip, Stephen and the others were qualified and served well. By the above standard, if you are qualified, then you can serve in the youth fellowship in your Church or school. Also, you can clean the church or its environment and carry or wash vessels when there is need. When Ananias and Sapphira died, those who buried them were the young men (Acts 5:5-10). Be available for God's use. • Challenge: "To serve Him, you must fulfill His conditions." • Prayer: "Dear God, I surrender my life to you today." • Quote: "God requires honesty and wisdom in service." • Bible Reading in one Year: Micah 6: 6- 8 See more here: 1 Like 1 Share |

Higher Everyday SUNDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2017 PROSPER THROUGH YOUR ASSETS TEXT: 2 KINGS 4:2 "And Elisha said unto her, what shall I do for thee? Tell me, what has thou in the house? And she said, thy handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil" (2 Kings 4:2) The words of Warren Buffett sum up our topic, "Invest in yourself; investing in yourself is the best thing you can do. Anything that improves your own talent, nobody can tax it or take it away from you. If you have talent and you maximize it, you have a tremendous asset that can return tenfold." The widow in our text had only oil as an asset and God used it to lift her. Your asset may not be money or material thing. One of the greatest forms of asset is mental asset. Read broadly to develop your mental asset, know what is happening in the world around you; knowledge is potential power; it is more than money. When you solve problems with your knowledge, you create value; when you see a problem, you see money. Pray to God to lead you to solve problems. Solving problems is the way to prosperity. Money hides in your products, services, gifts and talents. Talents that will make you a medical doctor, technician an engineer or an accountant may be hiding in you. Discover and develop them for service. Challenge: Solve problems and create value. • Challenge: "Solve problems and create value." • Prayer: "Oh God, help me to create value with my talents." • Quote: "Money hides in your gifts and talents." • Bible Reading in one Year: 2 Kings 4:1-7 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday MONDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2017 PRAY FOR SUFFERING PEOPLE TEXT: LAMENTATIONS 4:5 "They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills" (Lamentations 4:5) One of the things that cause people's fortunes to change from good to bad in a nation is war and famine. Somalia in Africa has gone through these harsh experiences. At a time, famine was declared in its South-Central part, and after some years, it became more widespread, with many people, including children at risk. It was projected by UNICEF that 944,000 children would suffer acute malnutrition in 2017. Among these were children suffering from severe acute malnutrition who would need urgent, life saving support. Activities of terrorists have also brought sufferings to millions of people in Nigeria, Mali, Iraq, Syria and other countries. There is need for prayer for them. There is a clarion call to join the network of praying Christians worldwide. Let us all arise and pray for suffering people all over the world (2 chronicle 7: 14). Pray for the sick, pray for the jobless and homeless. Pray also for the salvation of sinners. God will save and deliver if we pray. • Challenge: "Join the network of praying Christians worldwide." • Prayer: "Lord, help me to pray for all suffering people daily." • Quote: "Pray for suffering people all over the world." • Bible Reading in one Year: Lamentation 4:4-10 See more here: 1 Like |

2018 is the time to pray for the Church, pray also for those who haven't received the spirit of the Lord, pray for those who haven't yet been called, that one day they will find the truth in Christ. Pray for our nations, that someday, everybody will turn from their evil ways and worship the only true God-Jesus Christ is Lord. Pray for our Church that the Lord will help us to seek after the kingdom of God, pray for us-the Lord will give us wisdom and knowledge how to recognise the truth, Pray for those who have been taught the unscripted tithing message, and all the other religious man made gospels.. Pray for the Pastors to give back the tithes {Money} they have stolen from the stranger the poor the needy and the hungry, Pray for the lost in Church and out on the streets, Pray for those who are hungry spiritually and fleshly, Pray for those who are thirsty, poor and in need, that the Lord will give the Christians strength to seek after them, find them, love them, and teach them the Word of God. Pray for me, and you and everybody, that God will choose each and everyone of us, when He returns, that we will enter into His kingdom and glory forever and forevermore.. |

Higher Everyday TUESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2017 A MULTI-TALENTED YOUTH TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 16:18 "Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and comely person, and the LORD is with him" (1 Samuel 16:18) Today's text singles out David, the youngest son of Jesse, from his peer group in Israel. The Scripture describes him as a multi-talented youth. He was a skillful musician, playing stringed instruments and composing music. He wrote many powerful psalms, some of which are prophesies concerning the coming Messiah. David was a war hero and veteran. He was a good administrator in Israel and in addition, a successful shepherd. David's life was unique - he was a man after God's own heart. He knew his talents and used them well. "Your real talent dwells deep down within you, and you may not have discovered it yet," said Dr. Robert H. schuller. Christian youth can do exploits through Christ who strengthens or empowers them. It is simple: seek the kingdom of God first and His righteousness. Believe it, other things you desire shall be yours. You probably have more talents than David. If you do not put your talents into use, you will not know that you possess them. Pray and God will reveal your gifts to you, and then use them. • Challenge: "When to use your gifts is now." • Prayer: "Lord, I believe and I can be useful." • Quote: "You may have more talents than David." • Bible Reading in one Year: Proverbs 22:29 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2017 CALLED UNTO HOLINESS TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:7 "For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness" (1 Thessalonians 4:7) In every generation, parents expect their offspring to be like them, hence the maxim, 'Like father like son,' or 'like mother like daughter.' Some parents have disowned their children for behaving contrary to family norms. In disappointment and frustration, a parent screamed at her child thus: "You are a complete failure. You are an embarrassment to the family." What a tragedy for any youth to be a victim of such predicament! Like our parents, God, our heavenly Father expects us to be like Him. He is holy and demands that we be holy. Dear Christian youth, you have been saved and cleansed from sin by the precious blood of Jesus. Sin and uncleanness are contrary to your Christian calling. Flee from sin and worldliness at home, in the boarding school, and everywhere you go. Consecrate your life to God. He will keep you holy and empower you to draw other youths to Christ. The reward of your holy living will be favour with God here on earth and eternity with Him in heaven. • Challenge: "Flee from sin and worldliness." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to live a Holy life." • Quote: "God will keep you holy." • Bible Reading in one Year: 1 Peter 1:13-16 See more here: 1 Like |

His reports portrayed him as a brilliant boy who was undisciplined and careless with his studies, hence, performing below his intellectual capacity. He only managed to pass and gain admission into the University. His plight changed when a Christian course mate led him to Christ. Thereafter he settled down and excelled in his spiritual and academic life to the delight of his parents. How is your performance at school? God wants every youth to succeed in life. To succeed in your studies and other life endeavours, you must be committed and hard working. Examination malpractice, internet fraud, occultism and prostitution will not lead to godly success. On the contrary, self-discipline, frugality and hard work are essential for resounding success. Above all, give your life to Christ and He will help you to excel. • Challenge: "Walk with God and He will lead you to your success." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to be diligent and disciplined in my life." • Quote: "God wants every youth to succeed in life." • Bible Reading in one Year: Proverbs 22:29 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday FRIDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2017 PASSION FOR FAITH PERFECTION TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 3:10 "Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith" (1 Thessalonians 3:10) A Writer revealed that, during his days at a Christian high school, he enjoyed interacting with teenagers, trying to guide them to a purposeful Christ-like life. His goal was to prepare them to live for Christ throughout life. That would happen only as they made their faith a vital part of life through the help of the Holy Spirit. Those who do not have deep love for Christ flounder after they leave the influence of Christian teachers and parents. But others remain standing believers. My precious Christian youth: are you enjoying this type of guidance? Are you still in the faith? You cannot depend on your Christian parents and guardians for your faith perfection. You must also have a passion for your faith perfection by reading and meditating on the word of God, and being prayerful. Ask the Holy Spirit to perfect your faith by guiding you into all truth. Consecrate your life totally to God. He will establish you in faith and keep you faithful to the end. • Challenge: "Have desire for faith perfection." • Prayer: "Lord, help me to pray for others as Paul did." • Quote: "The Holy Spirit will help perfect your faith." • Bible Reading in one Year: John 16:12, 13 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday SATURDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2017 TIME FOR YOUR TIME-TABLE TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 3:1 "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1) Youths by nature are explorative and sometimes get distracted from their set goals. Charles Gordon once said, "If a dreamer is not focused, he will soon have too many irons in the fire. He dies and finds a lot of things only half done." As a student, do you have a dream? Are you working on your dream? Someone said, "The only thing worse than having no dream is having one without a plan to make it a reality." To make your dream a reality, you need a functional time-table. Our text warns that there is time for everything. As a youth aspiring for excellence, a realistic time-table will give you a sense of direction. Nothing is more costly than wasted time. It results in avoidable failure. To excel in your studies, plan a workable time-table and discretely follow it; work diligently, and shun every distraction from friends, peers, and the social media. Also give your life to Christ who has come to give mankind abundant life, then live for Him and you will excel. • Challenge: "To excel, have a functional time-table." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to discretely follow my time-table." • Quote: "A time-table will give you direction and focus." • Bible Reading in one Year: Ephesians 5:15,16 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday SUNDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2017 SURVIVING FAMINE SEASON TEXT: JOB 5:20 "In famine He shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword" (Job 5:20) Famine is a tough season of lack of food. However, God says, "At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh." A Writer told a story of the ant and the grasshopper. In summer, the ant works, gathering food while the grasshopper plays. When winter sets in, the ant has time to rest and sleep. The grasshopper on the other hand starves in the cold because he does not understand that adequate preparation for tomorrow is the wise use of today. What a great lesson from the ant! According to Benjamin Disraeli "The secret of success in life is to be ready when the time comes." Are you always ready? All youths going through this devotional need to prepare well for their future. Use your today wisely for a secure and better tomorrow. As a student, you must be diligent in your studies, working with your examination in view to avoid failure. Use your finances wisely to survive times of scarcity. Watch your health properly to avoid sickness. Above all, put your trust in God, and He will be your defense and provider in every storm of life. • Challenge: "Prepare well today for your tomorrow." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to daily prepare for tomorrow's storms of life." • Quote: "Use today wisely." • Bible Reading in one Year: Proverbs 6:6-11 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday MONDAY, JANUARY 01, 2018 A WISE WATCHMAN TEXT: DANIEL 12:3 "And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever" (Daniel 12:3) The story was told of a Christian girl who gained admission into a university to read Law. In her first year, she was fervent in her Christian faith, winning souls. She later became lukewarm, insinuating that her studies was the reason for the change. However, the Holy Spirit convicted her of her lukewarm state and she repented and returned to her vibrant Christian life, sharing the gospel with students. What a wise watchman! The song writer wrote: O brother, life's journey beginning, With courage and firmness arise! Look well to the course thou art choosing; Be earnest, be watchful, and wise! A wise watchman is one who believes in Christ, watches over his soul and wins souls for Christ (Proverbs 11 :30). Our text affirms eternal reward for such Christians. I encourage you to be wise and watch over the souls of unbelieving youths around you. Resolve that none of the youths that you are in contact with will miss heaven and you will shine as a star forever. • Challenge: "Preach the gospel to fellow youths with zeal." • Prayer: "Dear Lord, help me to be a wise watchman." • Quote: "Be earnest, be watchful, and wise." • Bible Reading in one Year: Ezekiel 3:17; 2 Timothy 4:2, 3 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday TUESDAY, JANUARY 02, 2018 SIN RUINS TEXT: HOSEA 13:16 "Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up" (Hosea 13:16) There was a young man, the only son of an uneducated low income couple, who were determined to sponsor him through his university education. While in the university, he joined a rebellious group of students and neglected his studies. Consequently, he failed in his first session, dropped out of school but remained on campus with friends. He concealed his predicament from his parents and continued to extort money which he spent on sinful gratifications. He finally returned home, to the dismay of his parents, without a certificate. What a ruined life! "You cannot eat your cake and have it," says an adage. Are you living in self-deception and rebellion against God? It is sinful. Sin ruins, and if you die without repentance, you will be doomed forever. Surrender your life to Christ now, live for Him and you will escape from sin's ruin and inherit eternal life. God will also make you excel in your academics and career. • Challenge: "Repent of your sins today before it is too late." • Prayer: "Lord, forgive me all my sins and save me from sin's ruin." • Quote: "Sin ruins." • Bible Reading in one Year: Luke 15: 11-24 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 03, 2018 NO TIT FOR TAT TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 5:15 "See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men" (1 Thessalonians 5: 15) Vera was a university undergraduate adjudged as an uncompromising Christian by revenge her hostel mates, most of whom hated and persecuted her. Instead of repaying hatred for hatred, she showed them love. Members of her hostel used a common wire hanger for drying their laundered clothes. Whenever it rained and Vera was out of the hostel, no one packed her clothes. Astonishing to her mates however, Vera packed their clothes whenever it rained. Her attitude so challenged them that some of them surrendered their lives to Christ. What an example of 'No tit for tat!' John L. Mason declared, "Without forgiveness, life is governed by an endless cycle of resentment and retaliation... Our text condemns rendering evil for evil but encourages overcoming evil with good. Like Vera in our story, you should love others, including your persecutors. Assist fellow students experiencing challenges. By so doing, you will win them to Christ. Higher Everyday THURSDAY, JANUARY 04, 2018 RECOVER LOST RESOURCES TEXT: 2 KINGS 6:6 "And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim" (2 Kings 6:6) Our text talks about the sons of the prophets who got Prophet Elisha's permission to enlarge their residence. They went in his company to cut beams from Jordan. The axe head of one of the young men fell into the river when cutting his beam. And the axe was borrowed. He cried to Elisha who promptly identified where it fell, cut down a stick, and cast it into the water; and the iron swam up, defying the time-tested principles of floatation and upthrust. The presence of Elisha made the difference. To recover your lost resources, be it health, money, material, position, or a Christian experience, you must cry unto God. Beloved, life's challenges are common to all, but you need not fear if God is with you. No matter what you have lost in any area of your life, you can recover it through Christ. Like the sons of the Prophets, invite Christ into your life; daily walk with God and call upon Him in prayer. He will turn your losses into gain. • Challenge: "You will not borrow, lose but gain." • Prayer: "Dear Lord, turn my losses into gain in Jesus' name." • Quote: "Cry unto God." • Bible Reading in one Year: Exodus 15:24; 2Kings 2:21 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday FRIDAY, JANUARY 05, 2018 RESPONDING TO REBUKES TEXT: HEBREWS 12:7 "If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?" A story was told about President Lincoln who signed an order transferring some regiments, during the American civil war. Calling the President a fool, the Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton, refused to implement his order. When Lincoln heard of it, he replied, 'Stanton said I'm a fool then I must be, for he is nearly always right, and says what he thinks. I'll step over and see for myself.' Lincoln did. When Stanton convinced him the order was in error, he withdrew it. What a response to rebuke from a President! How do you respond to rebukes? "Generally, children brought up with excessive freedom and lack of discipline grow up not respecting themselves, their parents or society... " said Shiv Khera. Many people respond negatively to rebukes. However, there is something to learn from every rebuke. Learn to respond wisely and humbly to rebukes from your parents, teachers and elders. Like President Lincoln, seek to understand the reason for rebukes and accept your error with an apology. In so doing, God will be pleased with you and you will make progress. • Challenge: "Learn a lesson from every rebuke." • Prayer: "Dear Lord, help me to respond wisely and humbly to rebukes." • Quote: "Accept rebukes humbly and wisely." • Bible Reading in one Year: Hebrews 12:1-11 See more here: 1 Like |

Eleanor Roosevelt says, "One's philosophy is not best expressed in words. It is expressed in the choices one makes. In the long run, it shapes one's life. And the choices one makes are ultimately one's responsibility." In our text, Joshua urges the children of Israel to choose whom to serve, either the Lord or the gods of this world, declaring his resolve to serve the Lord with his family. Who do you serve? Are you serving the Almighty God or the gods that are man-made, the idols of fame, money, materialism, immorality, football or internet? The choice you make now determines your eternal destiny. Beloved, choose to serve the Lord. He warns lovingly but sternly, "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth... " (Ecclesiastes 12:1). Make up your mind today. Choose Christ and forsake other gods. Consecrate your life to Him and He will bless and grant you all-round success. • Challenge: "Surrender your life to God and live for Him only." • Prayer: "Dear Lord, help me to forsake all other gods and serve you." • Quote: "Choose Christ and forsake other gods." • Bible Reading in one Year: Ecclesiastes 12:1-14 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday SUNDAY JANUARY 7 2018 STOP THE OLD SERPENT TEXT: JAMES 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7). According to Richard Blackby, "it is a mistake not to take temptation seriously." Many who have succumbed, though they were too strong enough to resist...When wickedness surrounds you, never assume you are immune...remove [yourself] from temptation's way." This is a timely warning for every God-fearing youth. Our text admonishes us to submit ourselves to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from us. As a Christian youth, you must heed this admonition. Be warned, no one is spiritually mature or experienced enough to outwit the devil in his tempting trickery. When our Lord Jesus Christ was tempted by the devil He stopped him with God's word and not by self-confidence. The old serpent is out to lure the unwary Christian into immorality, worldliness, and other vices, to defile and separate him from God. Never cease to say 'NO' to Satan by quoting relevant Scriptures. Remain fervent in the Word of God, prayer and in evangelism. Surely God will make you victorious over the old serpent. • Challenge: "Resist the old serpent always and victory is yours." • Prayer: "Dear Lord, empower me to resist Satan always in Jesus' name." • Quote: "Accept rebukes humbly and wisely." • Bible Reading in one Year: Hebrews 12:1-3 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday MONDAY JANUARY 8, 2018 SAINT'S ATTITUDE TO SIN TEXT: 2 PETER 2:8 "For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds" (2 Peter 2:8.). A story was told of James, a Christian young man, who walked in the same office with Grace, an attractive unbelieving lady. James' Christ-like and witnessing life was glaring to all in their organization. Grace tried hard to entice James but he preached Christ to her each time she made her advances. Conscious of Satan's devices and his Christian testimony, he sought transfer to another section, which was granted. Thus, James fled from sin like Joseph in Potiphar's house. This is instructive for every youth. Christians must resist temptations. The maxim, "Prevention is better than cure" is indisputable. Your attitude to sin should be that of radical rejection: no compromise. Sin destroys Christian testimony, separates the saint from God and leads to eternal damnation. Live a holy life in obedience to God. Preach the gospel to depopulate Satan's kingdom. Build yourself up with the word of God and prayer, and God will keep you from sin. • Challenge: "Abstain from every sin." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to flee from every appearance of evil in Jesus' name." • Quote: "Hate sin with passion." • Bible Reading in one Year: Genesis 39:1-12 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday TUESDAY JANUARY 9, 2018 A DILIGENT PERSON'S DECISION TEXT: JOHN 9:4 "I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day; the night cometh, when no man can work" (John 9:4). Hudson Taylor was a great missionary who gave his life to Christ as a youth and remained faithful to the end. He was called as a missionary to China. In preparation, Hudson studied God's word and read books about China and her language. He got involved in open air preaching and distribution of gospel tracts. At the fullness of time, he went to China to minister. Hudson tailor's life is a reflection of the diligent person's decision. Every Christian youth must decide early to commit himself to education or training for a future career. No one becomes a notable professional in any field without diligence. However, the greatest decision in life is to surrender your life to Christ, live and win souls for Him. If you have not done so, do it now. Moreover, commit yourself to Bible study and prayer. Our master, Jesus, expects us to do so. The world is like a field ripe for harvest and time is running out. Higher Everyday WEDNESDAY JANUARY 10, 2018 HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD TEXT: JEREMIAH 2:3 "Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD" (Jeremiah 2:3). A Christian Writer narrated how he and his wife came across a road named Godliman street while taking a walk in London. On enquiry about the street, they were told that a certain man once lived there whose life was so saintly that his street was named, 'That godly man's street'. What a challenge to all Christian youths! How are you living your life? "Israel was holiness!" what a sad note! May it not be said that "I was holiness" or "you were holiness". Our holiness must be current. Is your life Holy unto the Lord? Can your family members, associates, neighbours, teachers and fellow students describe your Christian life as saintly as the man in our illustration? God expects you to be holy, no matter the corruption in the society. Amidst persecutions, denials and mockery, remain holy. Daniel lived a holy life among wicked men and God delivered him in the lions' den. Ask God to sanctify you to make Holy living easy for you. Like Daniel, God will also defend and deliver you from evil. • Challenge: "To enjoy God's protection, live a holy life." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to live a holy life in Jesus' name." • Quote: "Ask God to sanctify you." • Bible Reading in one Year: Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:14-16 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday THURSDAY JANUARY 11, 2018 NO SPIRITLESS WORSHIP TEXT: JOHN 4:23 "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him" (John 4:23). Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary describes worship as: "The human response to the self-revelation of the triune God. This includes divine initiation in which God reveals Himself, His purposes and His will; a spiritual and personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ on the part of the worshipper; and a response by the worshipper of adoration, humility, submission, and obedience to God." Our text states that God is seeking those [youths] who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Do you worship God in Spirit and in truth? Worship is more than music, dancing and all the show of carnality going on in many assembles today. Spiritless or carnal worship is unacceptable to God as it doesn't glorify Him but only gratifies the self. Spiritual worship exalts God. To avoid spiritless worship, give your life to Christ and live for Him in total obedience. • Challenge: "To avoid spiritless worship, give your life to Christ." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to worship you in spirit and in truth." • Quote: "Spiritless worship is unacceptable to God." • Bible Reading in one Year: Psalm 95:1-6 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday FRIDAY JANUARY 12, 2018 CHRISTIAN MEDITATION TEXT: PSALM 1:2 "But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night" (Psalm 1:2). Dick Eastman asserts, "The person that spends time thinking about the thoughts of God will find great depth and understanding that will touch all areas of his life. It is after all in meditation that you rise above yourself of seeing God's plan in proper perspective." Truly you can only rise above yourself and the world to know the will of God for your life diligent meditation on God's Word. Many high and higher school environments are polluted by myriads of social vices, which pose danger to the spiritual life of the students. Do not waste your God given time in clubbing, partying and other social gatherings. God says you are blessed, if you delight in His Word, and meditate on it day and night (Psalm 1:1,2). Practise the maxim, 'No Bible, No breakfast; No Scripture, no sleep.' As you diligently meditate on and obey God's Word, He will proper and grant you good success. • Challenge: "Practice the maxim, No Bible, No breakfast; No Scripture, No sleep." • Prayer: "Dear Lord, help me to meditate on your Word diligently." • Quote: "Meditate on and obey God's Word." • Bible Reading in one Year: Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:1-6 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2018 I SHALL NOT BE MOVED TEXT: PSALM 1:2 "My soul, wait Thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defense; I shall not be moved" (Psalms 62:5,6). A story was told of a boy crossing the ocean with his father, the captain of the ship. They ran into a storm which frightened everyone except the boy. When asked why he was unafraid he said, "I have my eyes on that window. Through it, I can see the bridge and on that bridge is my father. He is captain of this ship. He has taken it through many storms and I know he will take this one through." What a confidence! In our text, King David refused to be moved by persecution from his enemies because God was his Rock, salvation and defence. Beloved, are you facing challenges in your physical or spiritual life? Like King David, fix your eyes on God. Do not be moved. Consecrate your life to God and trust in Him. Surely He will see you through every storm of life. • Challenge: "Refuse to be moved by challenges of life." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to trust you amidst Storms of life." • Quote: "Fix your eye on God." • Bible Reading in one Year: Psalm 62:1-8 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday SUNDAY JANUARY 14, 2018 GOOD THINGS FROM GOD TEXT: JAMES 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (James 1:17). I like the way God qualifies the gifts He gives. They are good and they are perfect. He gives material and financial wealth for our enjoyment. The gift of life, salvation and other Christian experiences are from God. So are such virtues as wisdom, knowledge, understanding and various abilities. However, Elizabeth Elliot said, "If we hold tightly to anything given to us, unwilling to let it go when the time comes to let it go or unwilling to allow it to be used as the Giver means it to be used, we stunt the growth of the soul... 'If God gave it to me,' we say, 'It's mine. I can do what I want with it.' No...It is ours to thank Him for and ours to offer back to Him." Your life and everything you have comes from God and belongs to Him. Can you surrender all to Him with thanksgiving? God says, "My son, give me thine heart... " (Proverbs 23:26). Be born again and receive gifts from God, including eternal life. • Challenge: "Be grateful to God for all His good gifts to you." • Prayer: "Help me Lord God to surrender my life and my all to you." • Quote: "Be born again and receive gifts from God." • Bible Reading in one Year: 1 Chronicles 29: 11, 12; 1 Corinthians 4:7 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday MONDAY JANUARY 15, 2018 THE WITNESS WITHIN TEXT: ROMANS 8:16 "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God" (Romans 8:16). Many who claim to be Christians, including youths, often experience inward conflict on the genuineness of their salvation. They are active in Church but lack assurance of salvation. Genuine salvation follows acknowledgement and confession of sin and receiving Christ as one's personal Lord and Saviour by faith. At salvation, we receive the earnest of the Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:22). This is referred to as a little deposit in our hearts of the Spirit as a foretaste of the expected greater measure at Spirit baptism. Hence the Spirit can bear witness with a new convert's spirit that he or she is God's child. Beloved, do you have an inner witness that you are God's child? If you do, then when Satan makes you doubt the genuineness of your salvation, resist and rebuke him. However, do not allow sin in your life. Oswald J. Smith states, "God will never pour out His Spirit on the flesh. Sin and Spirituality cannot co-exist. The Holy Spirit will not occupy a dirty heart." Be faithful to God and enjoy the witness of the Spirit in your daily walk. • Challenge: "Do not grieve or quench the Holy Spirit." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to heed the witness of the Holy Spirit." • Quote: "The Holy Spirit will not occupy a dirty heart." • Bible Reading in one Year: Romans 8:1-14 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday TUESDAY JANUARY 16, 2018 MAKE GOD HAPPY TEXT: ROMANS 8:8 "So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God" (Romans 8:8.). It is natural for families to see parents show more affection to the child or children who make them happy. A story is told of a family with two boys. The younger son, from childhood, was very gentle, humble, obedient and respectful while the elder son was self-willed, stubborn, disobedient, and troublesome. Although the elder son performed better academically, the younger received more love and care from their parents because he made them happy. The parents' attitude towards the younger son was so glaring to the elder brother that he eventually changed his rebellious lifestyle. Like these earthly parents, God expects everyone, including youths, to make Him happy. Concerning Jesus, God declares: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:17). Do you want to make God happy? Our text says you cannot please God if you live in sin. To make God happy, surrender your life to Christ, forsake your sins and live with eternity in view. Also, reading the Bible and obeying it, praying, soul winning and holy living will help you to make God happy. • Challenge: "To make God happy, repent and surrender your life to Christ." • Prayer: "Dear Lord, help me to live my life to please you in Jesus' name." • Quote: "Live with eternity in view." • Bible Reading in one Year: Isaiah 43:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:22 See more here: 2 Likes |

Higher Everyday WEDNESDAY JANUARY 17, 2018 WHAT THE FATHER FORBIDS TEXT: ROMANS 6:1,2 "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein" (Romans 6:1,2). A Christian writer wrote about Calvin Coolidge, a former American President. One Sunday, he attended a Church service and on his return, his wife enquired about the preacher's message. He replied, "Sin." His wife further enquired about what the preacher said concerning sin. He simply replied, "The preacher was against sin." Yes, God is against sin too. God forbids sin. He was angry with the sinner everyday (Psalm 7:11). When He saw the world at the time of Noah wallowing in sin, He destroyed it with flood and later, Sodom and Gomorrah with fire. Our text warns that having been dead to sin, by repentance, you cannot longer live therein. You must flee from all forms of defilement. Is there any sin your conscience is troubling you about? "The way to keep the heart quiet is to keep ourselves and the love of God and to do nothing to offend Him," wrote Henry. If you can a sinner, then repent and surrender your life to Christ. God Will forgive and impute His righteousness to you. • Challenge: "Repent of your sins and live for God." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to flee from sin and live to please you." • Quote: "God forbids sin." • Bible Reading in one Year: Romans 6:1-14 See more here: 2 Likes |

Higher Everyday THURSDAY JANUARY 18, 2018 GOD'S PRODUCTIVITY TOOL TEXT: EPHESIANS 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, creates in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). A Christian writer said, "By recognizing and fulfilling our God-given assignment in life, we free ourselves from a sense of failure, and are able to stop worrying about what others think about us. This is because our self -worth no longer depends on people but God. Each of us has been given a calling in life, and happiness belongs to those who find and fulfill that calling." Beloved, understand that you are God's productivity tool. God used the patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to the nation, Israel; Moses and Joshua to deliver Israel from bondage and prophets to teach and guide Israel. You also have goods or services to produce. You must, therefore, consecrate your life to God as His workmanship, submitting to be the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to know and fulfill God-given assignments for your life. People like Joseph, Deborah, Esther, Peter and Paul knew and did good works God gave to them. You too can be a reliable productivity tool in God's hand in Church ministry or through your professional training. • Challenge: "Walk and work with God as His productivity tool." • Prayer: "Dear Lord, help me to fulfill your calling in my life." • Quote: "You are God's productivity tool." • Bible Reading in one Year: Jeremiah 1:4-10 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday FRIDAY JANUARY 19, 2018 TEKEL TEXT: DANIEL 5:27 "TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting" (Daniel 5:27). Jenny was a brilliant university student who made excellent grades in her courses. In her final year, Jenny became proud, boastful and also slothful with her studies. Trusting in herself and her ability, she did not prepare well for her examination. Consequently, Jenny failed some final year courses and could not graduate with her mates. She was devastated and helpless. One of her teachers counseled her and encouraged her to humble herself and surrender her life to Christ. Jenny gave her life to Christ following which she realized her folly. Jenny learnt her lesson in a hard way. What about you? "The Word of God admonishes,".......fear God and keep His commandments...and humble (yourself) in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up" (Ecclesiastes 12:13; James 4:10). Recognize God as your Creator and surrender your life to Him. Flee from all appearance of evil and God will exalt you in all area of your life. • Challenge: "Humble yourself before God." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to live a humble and submissive life in Jesus' name." • Quote: "Recognize God as your Creator." • Bible Reading in one Year: Daniel 5:18-28 See more here: 1 Like |

Higher Everyday SATURDAY JANUARY 20, 2018 FOCUS TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:6 "And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on" (2 Kings 2:6). Al Ries opines that "Great leaders, in spite of a multitude of distractions, know how to keep things focused. They know how to inspire and motivate their followers to keep pushing. They don't let side-issues overwhelm them." This is very instructive for youths who desire to fulfill their God-ordained destinies. In our text, Elisha refused to be dissuaded from following prophet Elijah to Jordan. He remained focused while going with his master and in return received a double of Elijah's spirit when God took him to heaven. Beloved, you must remain focused if you desire God's unlimited blessings for your life. Live your Christian life with zeal and enthusiasm. Walk diligently with God. Be disciplined and focused in your academics or career and God will help you to excel above your equals. • Challenge: "Reject every distraction and remained focused." • Prayer: "Help me Lord to focus on you at all times." • Quote: "Remain focused." • Bible Reading in one Year: 2 Kings 2:1-15 See more here: 1 Like |
