There are indications that
airlines, ground handling
companies and entities
operating at Murtala
Muhammed Airport (MMA),
Lagos, Nnamdi Azikwe Airport
(NAA), Abuja and Port Harcourt
Airport (PHA)are groaning over
what they called arbitrary
charges imposed on them by
Federal Airports Authority of
Nigeria (FAAN).

Based on this arbitrary charges,
these entities are considering
suspending operations at thess
airports.
Daily Independent. learnt that
FAAN had increased the ground
rent, office rent, apron pass,
operational vehicle sticker and
car permit and other charges
paid to FAAN between 33 per
cent and 500 per cent for all its
clients in the aviation.
The airports affected by this new
development include MMA,
Lagos, NAA, and PHA.
Investigation revealed that
FAAN increased its ground rent
from N1,500 per square metre to
N2,000, which represent 33 per
cent increase at the Lagos
airport.
On the other hand office rent for
airlines, ground handling
services and other
concessionaires at the same
airport was increased from
N30,000 to N60,000 per square
metre per annum which
represents 100 per cent
increase.
Other charges arbitrarily
increased by FAAN are apron
pass and H&C terminal car
sticker, which was increased
from N7,000 and N50,000 per
annum to N15,000 and
N150,000 respectively.
At PHA for example Daily
Independent learnt that the
agency is compelling its clients
to pay new charges on ground
rent, apron pass, car permit,
operational vehicle sticker and
apron pass.
At the airport FAAN increased
the fee from N500 to N2000,
representing 300 per cent
increase ,while apron pass fee at
the airport was increased from
N250,000 to N1,200,000
yearly,an incrase of 380 per
cent.
For car permit at the airport,
clients are forced to pay N20,000
on each vehicle from zero naira
while the their clints were
compelled to pay N500,000 for
each operational vehicle sticker
that was before the increase
free.
