Up coming World Environment Day. ‘Connecting People to Nature’, the theme for World Environment Day 2017, implores us to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share. World Environment Day is the biggest annual event for positive environmental action and takes place every 5 June. This year’s host country Canada got to choose the theme and will be at the centre of celebrations around the planet. World Environment Day is a day for everyone, everywhere. Since it began in 1972, global citizens have organized many thousands of events, from neighbourhood clean-ups, to action against wildlife crime, to replanting forests. This year’s theme invites you to think about how we are part of nature and how intimately we depend on it. OmaniPadmeHum: Thank you for your quick response sir. Were the modules taught in English? |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by Nobody: 11:39pm On May 24, 2017 |
MikePhronesis: Yes. All of them. But note the following: 1. Some of the Lecturers have strong French accents. Calling Operator as "opayrghatuu"...With their silly pronunciation of R like they are dragging phlegm in their sinuses. 2. Some struggled with the English Language. 1 or 2 of them did. They were not so perfect in English. But they did their best. 3. The program is a professional masters degree. Hundreds of Case Studies. Every module had a case study or two. They respect this more than the Academic type. But in Nigeria the reverse is the case. So if you are looking at the PhD route, you MAY need to reconsider, as professional MSc might not get you in for a PhD program in Nigeria. 4. There is a basic French Course Module so you can perfect your French and find integration into the society a little easy. But the French Course is not part of your assessment. It is not added in your Transcript. I has serious issues with them here as I did not give a shit about the language for personal reasons. However, it is good for you. 5. The program is a little over hyped. I took my time to really discuss with the coordinating professor on what and what should be a part of it. I showed him the modules in UK and German schools for Safety Engineering. I now hear they have modified the course content and are doing better than my time. 1 Like |

McMyer: As long as a training program has content and it is supported by Bodies like OSHA, then it is good. Training is not only to get certificate for the job, but to give you new skills and knowledge or serve as update refresher of past skills and knowledge. In Nigeria, it is not so important. If employers want to be fair to the rules and regulations in Nigeria, then they should be interested in HSE Levels 1,2,3 for starters. If you have this already, then OSHA-132 is an added advantage. So in my opinion, see OSHA as added advantage. Show that you go out of your way to improve and reinvent your self and skills. If you have NISP then you can add OSHA to your collection. Good luck. |

Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by Nobody: 10:38pm On Jun 09, 2017 |
hayotundeh: It depends on why you need the Oil Roustabout Training. Are you targeting getting a job with a Drilling Company? Is it your area of specialization? Or are you interested in making it your area of specialization? Recall that as an Oil and Gas roustabout, you are involved in many drilling components and their maintenance including pumps, skips, skids, mud shakers, pits, trenches, draw works (in many instances) etc. If you feel it will be of use to you, then why not. If you want to get to know these drilling equipment piece by piece, and you feel it is knowledge that is professionally useful to you, then why not. Especially, if you are expecting something from a Drilling Company and you have the funds to go for the training. |
