Luis Suarez has revealed how Steven Gerrard prevented him from making a huge mistake by joining Arsenal.

The Uruguay star was lined up by the Gunners, who made a £40,000,001m bid in order to activate a release clause in his Liverpool contract before the start of last season.

But Suarez refused to force through an exit from Anfield after holding crunch talks with Gerrard after the unorthodox bid was rejected by the Merseysiders.


In his new book Crossing the Line, Suarez said: “It would have been a big error that I would have made had it not been for Steven Gerrard.

"We spoke about this when I went to Melwood to pick up my things at the end of the summer and he said: ‘You did the right thing, you waited until the best moment.’

“He had told me to play well for Liverpool, give it another year and it will be Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Barcelona coming for you and then you can go where you want, because you have the quality to play at any of those three clubs.”

Suarez notched 31 Premier League goals last season before completing a £75m move to Barcelona in the summer.

The former Ajax star, 27, is still a favourite at Anfield and made the move with Gerrard's blessing.

The Liverpool skipper said at the time: "His [Suarez’s] wife is from Barcelona and I don’t think you can begrudge a player like that, who has worked so hard for his dream.

“You can’t go against him when he says he is leaving for Barcelona. His dream from the first day he came was to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"Last summer when he was out in the cold and training on his own that’s the conversation I had with him. I said: ‘Don’t go to Arsenal’.

“I would have been really sad and disappointed to see Luis go to Arsenal. With all due respect to them, I said to him that he was too good for Arsenal."

Medicine after death... Liverpool went trophyless but qualified for champions league while Arsenal won FA cup and still qualified for champions league. The two clubs met thrice last season and Arsenal won two, lost one. Arsenal did better last season without Suarez but his signature could've propelled them (Arsenal) to do better.

Fast forward to this season when Suarez is gone, Liverpool and Arsenal are both struggling but Arsenal is still some how better.
Either ways, he made the right choice.
