This is false... I was right there and I can tell you what really happened. 5 mentions and I'll post the true story here. CC mynd44, Lalasticlala.

The whole thing actually happened at the popular yam zone market at Iriebe/Oyigbo, Trouble started when an Hausa man that deals on condemn aluminum and irons was confronted by a Calabar man who demanded to know where and who sold the not too old motorcycle he was carrying alongside other condemned iron and metals, When the Hausa man couldn't explain as to how he came about it, people started to gather and he was almost lynched for stealing the motorcycle. All of a sudden his fellow Hausa man came out with a knife and stabbed the Calabar man to death, Some other Calabar guys chased the Hausa man that stabbed their brother to death and killed him too, being a market that is dominated by Hausas...they unleashed mayham on the other Calabar people and killed four of them and two oyigbo indigenes of which one turned out to be a prince. Before the police could arrive they have already burnt some vehicles and attacked everyone around. I personally witnessed this cos I was searching for a vulcanizer to help fix my tyre very close to the scene. Pardon my typo and delay... I've been busy!

Well, the guy I quoted did bring politics into the discussion though.

If one's response to a fraud trial is that we should only prosecute the corrupt politicans and leave the masses...ie the chap Mr Galaxy...I assume he isn't talking about Glasse's Art of Cookery

That's why some times it's only necessary that you turn a blind eye to some comments that are off the track, i heard this same story under the caption '' Jonathan's right hand man quizzed by EFCC'' some of these beliefs and false reportage are just mischievous and targeted at a certain quarter..

Politics / Re: Buhari Is Right; Fuel Subsidy Is A Fraud. by 1miccza: 4:52pm On Apr 23, 2019
tactius:

Well, the problem is, government does not have funds to build new refineries.

If they did, GEJ would have built 3 new ones by 2015. He won't have even disturbed Dangote at all.(Buhari cannot build new refineries because oil prices have been too low to make much of anything).

If subsidy goes, the marketers benefit. They get sky high profits from selling fuel above the imported price. They also eventually would be inspired to create new jobs, and invest in things...like refineries.

Foreign investment would come in because they can now make profits from selling fuel above production price.(Dangote, by the way, won't reduce prices. Upon all the loans he took to build his refinery...)

NNPC is not building new refineries because they are spending the money they could have used for that on....you guessed it...subsidy. Subsidy means that you sell below the production or import price, and government pays you the difference. That's why marketers engage in sharp practices like lying about what they import, or selling fuel in Benin or Niger...where it costs N290 or more...because it is the only way to make a healthy profit...of sorts.

On the contrary all they have to do is carry out strict supervision and implementation of the construction of smaller/ modular refineries in all the states of the federation aided by the private sector, this will support whatever comes out of the current refineries.. It's not about Buhari or GEJ but about a fast thinking and pro active leader who doesn't care less about whose ox is gored.. That is what we don't have now..

Once Buhari commission the hospital the equipment is going to be sold or the doctors will take it to their private hospitals. Ambode just wants to use this for public show off. Come back in 4 months all the equipment are going.

Exactly just like that phantom New Ikeja bus terminus, they dismantled everything as soon as his plane left.. Las Las all na scam

Because if he removed it, ie allowed marketers to set the price of the fuel they would sell...and stopped paying subsidies....price of fuel would shoot up to N200 and above, leading to protests and nationwide revolt.

So, Nigeria keeps on paying for a scam because dealing with the scam is too politically expensive....even though subsidy removal is the best idea.

GEJ tried it in 2012...Nigerians rioted., it was reversed.

The truth is, let no partisan politician or foot soldier to a politician deceive you, as long as we are not producing and refining our oil, our best option remains subsidy, the only alternative to Subsidy is ensuring that our refineries are in top shape and these leaders will not allow this because it's their meal ticket.. The marketers will continue to fleece the nation dry until we do the right thing..

Refreshing to see this coming from our POLICE FORCE!

This is how it is done in a sane society, unfortunately some youths here have been blinded by hate permanently that they can never comprehend and note that this statement is worthy of commendation!

ONE innocent life matters!

SLOW and steady we will get to a New Nigeria we voted for.

When someone chooses to be willfully blind, there is nothing you can do about it bro.
It is good you leave them alone in their foolishness!

The truth is while you all on here are busy criticizing, abusing and tribalizing, way before the elections, there has been silent moves and back and forth deliberations between the Police, national assembly and those that care, this move is aimed at either Reforming the force, completely disbanding the force totally overhauling the whole outfit, it was supported by the former IGP , the Presidency kicked against it but later bowed due to pressure and the National Assembly supported it. The current IGP resisted a bit but reality has now set in. I think it's time for everyone to drop these political affiliations and tribalism and begin to educate instead of argue. Remember that some of these folks might just be kids who need some bit of education.

Just so you know the Police Reform bill has just been passed by the National Assembly..

Agree! Which brings us back to the topic at hand, can we really blame the government when we contribute to the problem? Nigeria will never be great because the body and head are rotten. Nigerians are born, corrupted by their environment, grow up into politicians/business people and big shots then end up making life moe difficult for their fellow Nigerians. It's a vicious cycle!

Exactly and that is why we will keep on speaking up, till these norms will become a thing of the past..

Sorry I disagree with you, especially the bold part. Yes the system is inept and faulty but those who manipulate it are also guilty. We make excuses for every negative thing in this country, from yahoo boys who are just jobless and taking back what their great great great grandfather lost to agberos who are just trying to survive. Our moral compass is so broken that we find it easy to blame the government but we don't realize we are the government.

Again you aren't wrong but we elected or selected some sets of people into positions of Authority so they can Lead us and at least create a Direction, in as much as we are the Government, if we go wrong and the head pin points that, then we will be good to go, but when the head is wrong and the body goes wrong too, then it's a clear cut recipe for disaster..

We have laws, we have agencies responsible for enforcement but Nigerians will not adhere. The only thing we respond to is force. Even Omotola cannot say with full confidence that she is paying her fair share of taxes. You can't complain of a problem when you are contributing to it.

Trust me if these agencies alone are left to do the enforcement nothing will work and that's the problem here. There are laws against tax defaulters but no one will look towards that angle, everyone is interested in lining their pockets and there lies the problem, don't blame Omotola , blame the System. It's her right to express her views as a Nigerian, if you know something isn't right and you keep on supporting it, it's a Cardinal sin that will return to haunt you some day.

how have the Nigeria government proven to been reliable with the once they have been collecting plus the monthly revenue received daily?

That still shouldn't stop anyone from paying their taxes though

In advanced countries, if you don't pay taxes while eligible, you're a criminal. Criminals end up in jail, criminals have no voting rights, criminals are never taken seriously in political discourse. You can't criticize the Government's ineptness towards the economy while sabotaging the economy by not paying your fair share.

You are right but again if the level of enforcement was top notch here as it is out there , most of these anomalies would be absent, if you do study the average Nigerian , you would realize that we don't adhere to rules. This simply means we have the herd mentality, that being said if shown the right path, with or without force , we would adhere. This still doesn't stop anyone from expressing his or her own views..

I mentioned something similar in one of the threads I created a while back.

Nigerians want the best things. You know, things like the Europeans have but dont want to pay for it. How do expect world class infrastructures to be built when 90% do not even pay taxes. Just with Oil money

It doesn't work that way my friends. Nigerians have to collectively contribute to achieving the Nigeria of our dreams.

So apparently because one does not pay taxes , he or she should not speak up when things aren't working right?? How about getting the person to pay the taxes and at the same time allowing freedom of expression?? Have you thought of that??
