This is a classic case of Anencephaly. The brain failed to develop. The condition is, of course, not compatible with life. 1 Like |

OlamideGirl: A sensible comment I've seen so far on this topic.... But would you really blame the poor mother for her predicament? Who is to blame for her lack of education, as well as those half-educated midwives? We can all see what a "corruption-filled" poor governance starting from the federal level to the state & local government level had caused to these people involved from the poor family, to the entire ignorant populace reading this topic..... Please we should all go out this morning and vote out this corrupt government while making way for a new hope of good governance in the next 4 years ahead. Your vote is your power to decide your future...Please vote wisely!!!! |

This is plain IGNORANCE!!!...Our journalists are too lazy these days. That's ANENCEPHALY,a congenital anomaly as a result of none closure of the cranial portion of the neural tube at the very early stage of embryonic development. |

Nigerian newspapers and sensationalism. Horns ko, trumpet ni. Like many enlightened NLders have said, its a form of neural tube defect. Ordinarily, the neural tube, which in the embryo develops into the brain and spinal cord, should close properly within the first weeks of gestation. If this does't happen, defects occur; and anencephly which presented in the unfortunate child in OP's post, is just one of them. Mortality is extremely high - less than 1% survive more than a few hours after birth (ie if they are born alive) |
