Obiageli Ezekwesili, the chief campaigner of the BringBackOurGirls group, expressed joy over the rescue of 293 females after the operation in Sambisa forest.

The former minister of education said that the development had brought hope that the Chibok girls, abducted on April 14, 2014, might be among the freed victims.

Speaking with Channels TV on April 28, Tuesday, Ezekwesili said:

“It is a great news at this particular time. We are hopeful that this news will be for real and that the Chibok girls will be among those rescued after they have been profiled.

“Before the call from you, I was speaking with one of the key member of the association of the parents [the Association of the Chibok Girls Parents]. He is going to proceed on a journey to Chibok tomorrow. He is excited at the news.

“They are very interested in seeing that this comes to a reality and it will be a big achievement for Nigeria.”

Military officials yesterday confirmed the rescue of nearly 293 females.

However, they urged people not to rush to conclusions as it is yet to be ascertained if the Chibok girls are among the rescued victims.

An intelligence source said that the girls and women would be screened on April 29, Wednesday, “to determine whether they are Boko Haram wives, whether they are from Chibok, how long they have been in the camps, and if they have children”.
