Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia has been handed a major injury boost with news that CSKA Moscow frontman, Ahmed Musa has resumed full training with the Russian Premier League side after picking up an injury last weekend.

Musa, 23, is in line to feature in the top division on Saturday against Kuban as he trained without feeling any discomfort today.

“Ahmed Musa, who was injured in the game with Rostov practiced along with other players (on Tuesday) ,” CSKA Moscow stated on their official webpage.

The Super Eagles skipper has been involved in 20 games in the Premier League in the ongoing campaign, scoring seven goals.

Musa is set to add to his international caps in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt.

Now or never for Ighalo to fire with Super Eagles

The Watford man has made an unspectacular start to his international football career, and now is the time for him to prove his worth.

COMMENT By Solace Chukwu
Seventeen goals in 33 games in a debut season in the world’s biggest league has catapulted Odion Ighalointo the limelight, both locally and internationally.

However, his strike on Sunday afternoon against Arsenal in the FA Cup action was his first in eight games in all competitions.
Best vine @WatfordTalk @ighalojude https:// /JR6neRYBvQ— Conn (@Conn_Woolnough) March 14, 2016

There is a clear split in Ighalo's season, with Christmas time bringing sad tidings for the former Granada man. Three goals in 10 games since the New Year pales against 14 in 23 in 2015, a year that witnessed the rising of Ighalo’s star.

It is not unusual for scoring rates to plummet in the second half of the season. Aside from the latent unsustainability of statistical freakishness, teams are more cautious at the business end of the season, as the gravitas of their position hits home. Be it chasing the title or European places, or seeking to avoid the ignominy of demotion, the reflex is to seek to eliminate errors, rather than score more goals.

It is even less surprising in the case of the Watford man, whose lack of proper variation in terms of skill and decision-making may make him easier to suss out as time passes. In that sense, his goal at the Emirates came at just the right time; with the Super Eagles slated to face Egypt in two weeks, it is vital that he rediscovers his scoring touch.

Ighalo's stats vs. Arsenal

Ighalo vs. Arsenal |A much-needed goal

He will reunite with Samson Siasia for the task at hand, and lest it be forgotten, it was under the former Super Eagles forward that he first entered the Nigerian footballing system as a callow, if highly rated striker in 2009.

Following the abject, hurried, imprecise showings in front of goal in Egypt, the irony of Siasia having to once again rely on Ighalo is almost cruel. Naturally, the player has come on since then, even more so within the last 18 months, within which he has dominated England’s top two divisions with pace, power and opportunism. Still, the latest lull in form sows the kernel of doubt: was 2015 a fluke, an embellishment against the general backdrop of mediocrity that has hallmarked his career?

Ighalo |2015-16 EPL stats
It is a question with which the Super Eagles management will have to grapple, and one which cannot be waved away offhand.

His two international goals in five games since making his debut against Uganda in March is respectable enough, but really, in terms of opposition, there could hardly have been a kinder line-up: Uganda, Chad, Cameroon, and two ties against Swaziland.

Inevitably, some of his unease has been put down to the more competitive nature of international football, and having to function within a system that is yet to coalesce. This makes sense, but really, what does this signify effectively, apart from the fact international football is not for everyone? There simply is no time to bed in and adapt at that level – that is the nature of the beast; it is, as an excuse, illogical at best.

Can Ighalo demonstrate he's the right man to lead the line for Nigeria vs. Egypt?

For context, winger Moses Simon has taken rather more comfortably to the international scene, having made his debut in the same Uganda game: three goals have come in six starts from a wide position, almost cruelly showing up Ighalo’s limitations upfront. Only once have both players scored in the same game; ostensibly, with the Watford man struggling to influence proceedings, it is Simon who has stepped up with crucial interventions.

It is early days yet, granted.
That said, with Egypt looming at the end of the month, Siasia will hope that, unlike seven years ago when he wagered all on Ighalo and got burned, his faith is repaid handsomely this time.

Improbably, his back-up plan is the uncapped Fanendo Adi, a largely unknown quantity on these shores, albeit an effective presence in Major League Soccer.

History often repeats itself, and when it does, it is as tragedy.

I am with you on this case. Nigeria is blessed with talents numerous to count both those in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
Most of those guys mentioned on that list of player that would have played for Nigeria are not even good enough to make the Eagles Team. Yes I say so.

Nigeria has only one Super Eagles Team so there is no way every Nigerian born player can play for the Super Eagles. Do you know the over hundreds or thousands of Nigerian born players that would have worn the green and white Jerseys that didn't have the opportunity?

As Orkpekyandega gave a list of players that play for other countries I can also give a list of players that got converted to play for Nigeria more recently:

1. Peter Osaze Odemwingie
2. Victor Anichebe
3. George Abe
4. Shola Ameobi
5. Steven Ukoh
6. Victor Moses
7. Alex Iwobi
8. Leon Balogun
9. Sone Aluko

We cannot ignore our Nigerian born talents and keep capping the foreign born ones.
In a situation where a player has declared an international future with a foreign country do we expect the NFF to go down on their knees begging?

The NFF and our coaches can only try to cap the exceptional ones that are available AS THE NEED ARISES.

How good is Ukoh who has been capped by the Eagles, For instance.? Someone like Otigba plays regularly in the Dutch first division, He should have been tried out in friendlies especially as he rejected another national team call-up in favor of Nigeria. At Center Back, We have had players like Egwuekwe for goodness sake picking national team call ups. If he was not good, the hungarian national team would not have extended an invitation to him. It is not as if Nigeria is brimming with top class quality.

Coaches have their favorites and it is not always about who is good enough. How do we explain the fact that Reuben Gabriel was always getting National team call-ups even with almost a year of not kicking football? Agbim, who was not even first choice at his club at the time ? And several other players.

We select mediocre players for our national team and they stay there for years. It is not about been good enough. In fact, it does not even matter how good you are in some cases.

If you are good enough, you are old enough. And yes, there are some players better than what we have had in the national team who never got the chance to prove themselves.

Sir this is not the issue of being perfect or not. We are talking about a very few and insignificant population holding over 170 Million people to ransom.

Common sense tells you that our Coaches are not always fair in player selection period. It is not as if they do it ignorantly. They know which player is better than the other players, but deliberately choose to do what is wrong for reasons not hidden to you and I.

Echiejile Braces For Monaco’s Big Match Vs PSG

By Johnny Edward:
AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile has urged his teammates to forget about the shock 2-2 draw against Reims last week and focus on finishing second in the Ligue 1 this season.

Echiejile who is expected to star for Monaco in Sunday's away clash with PSG, played down talks of revenge against ‎the Ligue 1 champions elect.

‎‎"These two matches are in the past. We need to be focused on our Sunday's game. We will do our best to get a positive result," Echiejile began in an interview with Monaco's official website.

Monaco have lost their last two games against Laurent Blanc's men, but Echiejile is hoping that PSG's triumph in the Ligue 1 could see them get a positive result.

Echiejile added: "Yes, these games can change many things, but for PSG their players can relax a bit and can also still play better. We will see a small change, I think‎."

Echiejile also revealed that ‎coach Leonard Jardim tasked Monaco players to work harder andu seal the final UEFA Champions League spot in the League.

"He told us to keep working hard and at all levels. We 're better on the pitch, but we are still missing something. But we must work even harder to get to our goal."

The Nigeria defender was also happy to be playing regularly since returning from injury in January.

"I feel good with each game I play and that makes me technically sound and physically balanced. I have gradually found my confidence back and I won't let myself‎ down."

Super Eagle''s Ahmed Musa

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will score plenty of goals when they confront the Pharaohs of Egypt in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Kaduna on Friday next week, forward Aaron Samuel has assured.

The striker who spoke with thenff.com on Wednesday, said getting the goals would not be a problem for the Eagles when they clash with their opponents in Kaduna.

The big striker, who plays for CSKA Moscow FC in Russia’s elite division alongside Captain Ahmed Musa, has been included in the list of 21 overseas –based professionals called by Coach Samson Siasia for the double dose against the Pharaohs.

“Goals will not be a problem when we take to the pitch in Kaduna. We have more and bigger stars than the Egyptians.

“There is nothing to fret about. I have heard what the Egyptians are saying, that we would not be able to score in Kaduna. That is mere wishful thinking on their part.

"They are trying to play a psychological game. The goals will surely flow from our boots into their net,” he assured.

Samuel, who previously played in China, scored two brilliant goals for the Super Eagles in the 2015 Cup of Nations qualifying race – against Sudan in Abuja and against Congo in Pointe Noir.

“Our objective would be to be precise, to convert the chances that we create. We will win and win well," he noted.

Nigeria host Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Friday, March 25, and both teams clash again four days later at the Borg el-Arab Stadium, Alexandria.

CSKA Moscow striker Aaron Samuel has said Nigeria will get the goals to sink Egypt because the Super Eagles have more and bigger stars than the Pharaohs.

The big striker, who plays for CSKA Moscow FC in Russia’s elite division alongside Captain Ahmed Musa, has been included in the list of 21 overseas–based professionals called up by coach Samson Siasia for the double-header against the Pharaohs.

“Goals will not be a problem when we take to the pitch in Kaduna. We have more and bigger stars that the Egyptians,” said the Russia-based striker, who is staging a comeback to the Eagles since the exit of coach Stephen Keshi.

Imagine if Siasia did not give Iwobi a chance and we eventually lost him to England, we could have lost Victor Moses to England too.

I think this home based quota is rubbish. Invite only exceptional home based players. I am for players like mathew and Nwobodo because they are young and can get better.

We had our best super eagles team when we invited our best players in Europe and at home. Players like Madu, Otigba, Ehizibue, Ndidi, Success, esiti and the new boy Awaziem are the future of the national team. Giving them Super Eagles exposure will boost their careers.

If we are honest with ourselves, We will not be condoning mediocrity. We will be trying to get the best players to play for us. Perhaps we could have gotten Dele Alli before he became a tottenham regular. We will not get everyone but we should have scouts seeking the best and giving them a platform.

Ambrose is constantly warming the bench in the scottish league and Otigba and ehizibue are super regulars in a much better dutch league. There are no convincing arguments as to why these guys should not be given opportunities to prove themselves. After all, We play Shehu Abdullah who is a DM at right back.

I can not accept a claim that says Sincere seth is better than Ehizibue.. Or Akas is better than Madu, On what basis?

The U23 Afcon and CHAN were low quality tournaments and we can not compare them to the dutch league (even though it is not the world's best league). The U23 Afcon was an eyesore and Nigeria could not make it out of the group stage of CHAN with our best home based.

The greatest thing about Westerhof when he was Nigeria coach was that he invited everyone, and the team kept evolving based on who was on form and playing well. We went from Rufai to Alloy to Agbonvare to Rufai.. We had a good pool of players that anyone could be invited.

I believe that we are on the verge of a special super eagles team if we manage it properly and give good players a chance.

Loscuito Drags NFF To CAS, Gives Deadline On Unpaid Salaries

Exclusive By Johnny Edward:

Former Super Eagles assistant coach Jean Francois Loscuito has reported the Nigerian Football Federation to the Court of Arbitration for Sports based in Lausanne, Completesportsnigeria.com has reliably gathered.

A letter to that effect was sent to the NFF headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday it was gathered.

Loscuito and other coaches were owed five months salary by the NFF. He joined his boss, Sunday Oliseh, in throwing in the towel over what they termed the failure of the NFF to honour the terms of their contracts.

The legal counsel of Losciuto who is currently recuperating from homeland in Togo also gave the NFF until March 24 to pay up the coach's outstanding salaries or risk being banned from featuring in subsequent competitions if found culpable, Completesportsnigeria.com gathered.

Who Will Win The 2017 Africa Cup Of Nations?

In January, 15 nations will head to Gabon to compete in the 31st edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. In previous years, there have always been one or two leading candidates but this time, qualification is proving exceptionally hard to predict and almost anybody can win next year’s tournament if they step up to the plate. We take a look at just two of the potential winners and discuss why these sides can go all the way in the competition.

Firstly, Nigeria are currently struggling to inspire confidence but they have the individual talent to build around and may fancy their chances of a shock victory. In 2013, Nigeria were crowned Africa Cup of Nations as they earned a 1-0 victory over Burkina-Faso and interim head coach Samson Siasia will be hoping his side can take inspiration from their previous success.

Nigeria’s troubles started around the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and they haven’t really responded since. However, they are on the cusp of qualification and at least one victory from a double-header with Egypt should see them pick up enough points to make the tournament. From there, it’s anyone’s guess. If the Super Eagles find their best form, why can’t they go on to win the competition?

In addition, Ivory Coast are another one of Africa’s major players and they should be treated with caution throughout both qualifying and the actual competition providing they reach next January’s tournament. Although they’ve lost a number of key personalities, including Kolo Toure, Didier Drogba and goalkeeper Boubacar Barry, in recent years, they remain a solid, well-oiled team and could well reach the latter stages of the competition.

The Ivory Coast gave a decent account of themselves at the World Cup in Brazil but fell short at the crucial moment. They will be looking to reassert themselves as one of Africa’s top nations next year and who knows, Didier Drogba may even return in some capacity in the future. For now, Yaya Toure will have to lead the way to Gabon.

If you simply cannot wait for next year’s tournament, you can get your sporting fix playing online games such as Football Frenzy or other sport games with different playing styles at Springbok Casino. You will genuinely feel like you’re playing alongside your sporting heroes in next January’s tournament on Football Frenzy and who knows, you may even make a decent profit whilst enjoying their wide range of games.

Can either Nigeria or the Ivory Coast win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations? Of course they can. Whilst both sides may be past their heydays, they are still competent footballing nations and it would be foolish to write either team off. For now, they should focus on qualification but we fully expect both nations to qualify and from there, Nigeria and Ivory Coast fans can start to get excited at their chances.

Siasia unfazed by Ighalo's goal drought

Nigeria interim manager Samson Siasia has played down Odion Ighalo's recent lack of goals, saying the striker is "desperate to deliver against Egypt".

After notching up 14 league goals for Watford during the first half of the season, goals have been hard to come by for the attacker as he hasn't scored in the English Premier League since January 23.

Super Eagles fans will be hoping he finds his scoring touch soon as they will need his goals when Nigeria take on Egypt home and away in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the end of March.

Siasia, though, is confident the Watford man will "deliver" against the Pharaohs.

"I am not worried about Ighalo’s recent lack of scoring goals for his club," he told Goal.com.

"I have been in constant touch with the player and I know that he would deliver against Egypt home and away. I can assure you that Odion is desperate to deliver against Egypt because he knows the importance of the two matches and he told me."

2017 Afcon qualifier: Egypt plan grand Kaduna entry, set date of arrival

Posted By: Adeniyi

Pharaohs of Egypt players pose for a picture before a match.(Getty)

The first official meeting between Nigeria and Egypt in 4 years was sure to come with a lot of strategic planning and tact as two heavyweights attempt to outdo each other for an automatic easing into the 2017 Afcon. Both teams share 10 Afcon titles between themselves in the 30 editions of the competition’s rich 58- year history, but both have also been inconsistent since 2010 – Egypt since winning their last title in 2010 and the Super Eagles narrowly missed out on a place to be in Equatorial Guinea last year.

But, Héctor Cúper’s men are back on course, leading Group G and in contention for an automatic ticket as group winners if they manage to edge out the 2013 champions.

Egypt have 6 points from 2 round of matches; 2 points better than their March 25, West African foes, after the same amount of games.

So, in the first meeting between the sides since Egypt’s 3-2 win in a 2012 friendly, goalkeeper trainer, Ahmed Nagi revealed the North African side travel to Kaduna in a private jet 2 days after the international window opens – 21 March.

“The team will hold a camp on the 19th of March as the squad will be announced after the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup games.

” Then we will fly to Nigeria on the 23rd of March in a private Jet, arriving in Kaduna.” Ahmed Nagi said.

The match will be played at the 16, 000 capacity Ahmadu Bello stadium, Kaduna.

Nigeria/Egypt: Siasia Gets Information On Egypt, As 11 Home-Based Eagles Battle for Shirts

By Alex Monye

The Eagles coach has received the tapes of the past matches of the Egyptian team and other vital secret information on how to win the AFCON qualifier in Kaduna.

Super Eagles' interim coach, Samson Siasia, has been getting tips on how to scuttle the Gabon 2017 ambition of Egypt when Nigeria lock horns with the Pharaohs in the back-to-back African Nations Cup qualifiers next week.

Speaking through the Eagles' Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, Siasia said yesterday that the coaches needed to study the weaknesses and strengths of the Egyptians, explaining that it would be dangerous for Nigeria to confront the tactically disciplined Pharaohs without sourcing for vital information on their style of play and the calibre of players that will feature in the matches

Ibitoye said the Eagles are not worried by the caliber of players listed by the Egyptian coach, Hector Cuper, for the matches, adding that Siasia is working to assemble a formidable squad that would win the games.

He added that the 11 home-based players currently in camp were poised to contest for starting shirts with their foreign counterparts, just as he revealed, "the Eagles coach has received the tapes of the past matches of the Egyptian team and other vital secret information on how to win the AFCON qualifier in Kaduna."

The foreign-based players are expected to join the Eagles' camp this weekend.

Balogun key to coral Egyptian speed

by Iwedi Ojinmah

Balogun

Scouting Egypt one really has to scout Zamalek. This is because the White Knights are providing the bulk of the North African team that will fly into Kaduna to take on Nigeria on the 25th. An amazing total of nine players.

Arguably no two will be more dangerous than the pair of Mostafa Fathy and Ayman Hefny who will man the wings for the Pharaohs.

They are agile and fast and will be charged with bringing the ball up the flanks should the midfield be stagnated and their other danger men like Mohammed Salah and Mohammed Elneny be corralled by Siasia’s game plan.

Zoom zoom zoom....Hefny we are told, has rockets as feet.

There is no doubt that the Super Eagles must rely on stopping fast counters and double teaming them each time they have the ball. Siasia may also toy with a high press depending on the tempo and how the game unfolds.

One player who knows this and who will be key for Nigeria is Leon Balogun who was unimaginably left off the initial call up list . He knows he cant venture upfront recklessly and if he does, he must back track very quickly. He will be running a lot come game day, that is a certainty. But the FSV Mainz defender is confident sharing with supersport.com “Egypt is a big football –playing nation, but Nigeria is also very, very big. There is no complex going into both matches and we have the men to give us victory in Kaduna and away in Egypt.”

Considering that he almost single-handedly frustrated Ribery and Robben when Mainz beat mighty Bayern just weeks ago [below], this must be like music to the ears of Siasia who has been extremely unhappy with the local Eagle squad still awaiting their foreign based players.

Do not cross Go do not collect 200...Balogun stops Alaba during Bayern's recent defeat

On the other hand the Pharaohs of Egypt are talking big as well. Looking to end their six-year absence from the AFCON finals, the seven time African champions have already indicated that they have a solid game plan in place to cancel out the Super Eagles. They plan to do this not just via attack, but also by shutting the Eagles out as they have promised to keep a clean sheet in Kaduna.

Kick-off time is 4.00 WAT on March the 25th and the game will be live on SuperSport.

Egyptian pros can’t stop Eagles – Nwosu

Super Eagles

Idris Adesina

Former Nigeria international, Henry Nwosu, has said the invitation of five overseas-based players by Egypt for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria later this month shouldn’t intimidate the Super Eagles and deny them victory.

The Egyptian Football Association on Monday invited AS Roma’s Mohamed Salah, Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny and three other overseas-based players for the games on March 25 in Kaduna and March 29 in Alexandria.

But Nwosu told our correspondent that he believes the Eagles have better players than the Pharaohs.

“Nigeria has more players playing outside the country than those at home but Egypt have more of their players at home than abroad. I believe that in terms of quality, our players have more than the Egyptians,” he said.

“Having 20 players from abroad in the Eagles team and Egypt having only five of such shows that they have a stronger league at home and only need those overseas-based pros to boost a part of the team. I believe that the players they called for the Nigeria match can’t stop the Eagles from beating them.

“What Nigeria needs is the right technical discipline, which I believe (Samson) Siasia has and will display, and the zeal to overcome the Egyptians.

“Our home-based players are doing quite well but more work needs to be done to enable them to match up with their Egyptian counterparts. When our league is stronger than it is now, we will also reduce our reliance on the overseas-based players.

“For each overseas-based player they parade, we have two, for instance for their Salah, we have Ighalo, who has been scoring goals and he recently is back to his form. We also have Victor Moses who can run the defence of any team down. Nigeria will have little or no problem with them when they meet. The Eagles only need time to blend and play as a unit.”

Osaze hopes to fix Bristol City home form

Odemwingie

Nigeria striker Osaze Odemwingie has said he hopes to help Bristol City improve a poor home record starting with this weekend’s visit by bottom club Bolton.

The Stoke City forward has joined the club on loan until May and made his debut as a half-time substitute in Saturday’s crucial 2-1 win at Fulham.

Now Odemwingie is already looking ahead to this weekend’s home game with managerless Bolton Wanderers, who currently prop up the division.

“I’ve heard the home results haven’t been as good as the away ones of late, and hopefully that’s something we can fix,” he told the Bristol City website.

“It was brilliant to start on a winning note (vs Fulham).

“The lads have all made me feel very welcome and I’ve not been here long but it feels like I’ve known them for a bit longer than that.

“The second half at Fulham felt more like a Premier League game. It was good to see the big numbers who travelled to Craven Cottage but now I’m looking forward to playing in front of the rest of the fans at home.”

The Nigeria international has had to make do with fleeting appearances for Stoke in the top flight this season, so he is particularly thankful for this opportunity at Ashton Gate.

He said: “I haven’t played a lot of games recently and that’s why I’ve come to Bristol City. I want game time, some action.

“I had a good chat with the head coach. People introduced this club to me as a sleeping giant. It’s a big city, a great fanbase and there’s a lot of potential here.

“In January I was in a similar position, where I wasn’t playing but the manager (Mark Hughes) said he still needed me around.

“I waited but nothing much has changed since then so we spoke again and I made it clear I wasn’t happy. I’m someone who always wants to be in the action.

“It’s a division lower but it’s a good division and I’ve played against Championship teams before in the FA Cup; it’s never been easy.”

Asked if he was looking ahead to the summer and a possible permanent switch, he replied: “Not really at the moment. I need to test myself because last season I missed out after a serious knee injury.

“I had a good pre-season but I’ve not had a run of first-team games to really test myself. I need to test myself and hopefully I can get that here. There’s no shortcut, it’s all about hard work.”

Salami joins Finnish club after securing work permit

Gbolahan Salami

Nigeria international Gbolahan Salami has arrived Finland to team up with Finnish club KuPS after he secured a work permit.

His journey to the European nation was delayed due to non-issuance of a work permit.

Salami was top scorer of the Nigeria league with 17 goals last season.

He arrived alongside defender Abubakar Aliyu, who will undergo trials with the club KuPS.

The 19-years-old defender, who won the FIFA U17 World Cup with Nigeria in 2013, posted a brief stint in Israel last year.

Ex-Warri Wolves captain Azubuike Egwuekwe is also at the same club.

Ahmed Musa says no fear, promises victories over Egypt

Eagles Skipper Ahmed Musa

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has told AfricanFootball.com Nigeria do not have any reasons to be afraid going into two AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Egypt later this month as the target remains to win the games.

Nigeria will host Egypt on March 25 in Kaduna with the return leg in Alexandria four days later in qualifying matches that could well determine the overall winners of the group.

Egypt are top of the qualifying group with six points from two matches, two points more than Nigeria, with only the group winners guaranteed automatic qualification to Gabon 2017.

The build-up to these matches has been noisy with both teams bullish of their chances and

CSKA Moscow star forward Ahmed Musa has now restated his belief Nigeria will triumph over the seven-time African champions.

“I am calling on Nigerians and football fans to support us and keep praying for us as we will make the nation proud with victories over Egypt," Musa told AfricanFootball.com

"We are not afraid of Egypt. Why should we?

"We have top quality players who will do Nigeria and Nigerians proud in both games. There is no reason to panic or fear Egypt, instead they should be the ones who should be afraid of us.”

Europa League: Onazi Benched As Lazio Lose 3-0 To Prague, Crash Out

By Johnny Edward:

SS Lazio's Nigerian midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi failed to make his 25th appearance in the Europa League for Lazio who crashed 3-0 on the night to Sparta Prague and 4-1 on aggregate at the Olimpico Stadium.

Lazio were the last surviving Italian team in Europe this season and they did little to impress their home fans.

The Nigerian international who is expected to be in Super Eagles camp next Monday after their away clash against AC Milan in the Serie A on Sunday was overlooked by coach Stefano Pioli who later sent on Alessandro Matri, Mauricio and Felipe Anderson in the second half of the defeat.

Sparta scored with their first attempt on goal, thanks to a good strike from Borek Dockal from the edge of the box in the tenth minute.

The Czech side stunned Lazio two minutes later when Ladislav Krejci doubled the lead beating Federico Marchetti from the edge of the box again.

Lukas Julis put the tie beyond the hosts when in the 44th minute when he volleyed home from eight yard in the midst of two defenders.

Onazi has made four appearances in the competition, eight in the Serie A and one Coppa Italia appearance for Lazio who are eight on the Serie A log.
