Kirri: Hello, what was the error message? Bank charges for online transaction (CAD) is above 200 now. if you are paying 100cad, you need to have more than 20k. then try again. But paying 75 cad, it should be enough. Rate has not dropped. was mere panic and speculations that happened in parallel market yesterday. All the best |

mrsirdam: Inspiring experience. Please I have a four years visiting visa to Canada, but I just do not want to visit and return to naija. Though I know I can only stay up to a maximum of six months per trip in canada on a visiting visa. So, I am cooking up a plan and need some advise and input about its feasibility from you and other guru in the house. Here is the plan, I want to travel to Canada on my visiting visa and then apply within Canada to convert to study permit (I already have Canadian admission on post graduate diploma - project management). The duration of the project management course is one year, after which I can apply for a post study work permit. My reason for wanting to apply for a study permit from within Canada is to reduce the finance I need to show for my upkeep as I am sponsoring myself and to hustle a little during the six months visit to raise more finance to support what I already have to show as evidence of financial capability when applying for the study permit visa from within Canada. Thanks. 1 Like |

Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by pampem: 7:40pm On Feb 26, 2016 |
geobayo: you need to apply for study permit from your country. You cannot change from a visiting visa to study. they are two different category of visas. do your research well. all the best |

Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by thesoj: 8:14pm On Feb 26, 2016 |
geobayo:Forget it. You would have to send your application to a CIC office outside Canada (likely the office in Los Angeles), and the application will NOT be less tedious than it would be if you did it in Lagos. The CIC office in L.A. receives many applications from temporary visitors in Canada trying to convert their visiting visa to student, and VOs as you might suspect are generally not positively disposed to it. You will need to have an extraordinarily compelling reason in order to convert your visiting visa to a student visa (especially since you are visiting from a country with lots of people who violate their visa conditions). FYI: The VO will compare the "purpose of visit" details from your visiting visa application to the details of your new student visa application; as a result, it is highly likely that the original "purpose of visit" of your initial visiting visa application will be seen as deceitful. I know of someone who tried what you are suggesting. The Los Angeles CIC office denied her three straight times. Her gcms notes showed that the VO looked at the details of her visiting visa application (made at the Lagos/Accra office) and concluded that she was deliberately deceitful given that a few months after she got into Canada she decided to try to switch to student status. The intent of her visiting visa application was to "visit" NOT to study. Also, keep in mind that once you are denied for trying to switch your visit visa to a student visa, your chances of getting the student visa again reduces drastically as you will now be suspected of being an applicant who does not respect the terms of his/her visit visa. My advice for you is that you should just visit Canada, then come back to Naija to do it. Getting a student visa would be easier once you've shown that you visited Canada before and came back on your own free will. cc: Dfavouredone hayqinsbFX 12 Likes |
