Re: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) In Nigeria by Seun(m): 2:56pm On Jun 03, 2005 |
From your question, I wasn't able to determine if what you're looking for is the meaning of ERP or you're looking for where one can learn how to use ERP applications like SAP in Nigeria. For an introduction to Enterprise Resource Planning (or any other topic, for that matter) we can consult the Wikipedia: "Enterprise resource planning systems (ERPs) are management information systems that integrate and automate many of the business practices associated with the operations or production aspects of a company." More, " ERP systems typically handle the manufacturing, logistics, distribution, inventory, shipping, invoicing, and accounting for a company. Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP software can aid in the control of many business activities, like sales, delivery, billing, production, inventory management, and human resources management." See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_resource_planning I look forward to hearing more from you on this issue. |

Re: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) In Nigeria by dag(m): 10:17pm On Mar 15, 2008 |
SAP is in full use in Nigeria, most multi - national companies and Governments implement SAP solutions ERP(Accounting, Human resource, Project management etc), in Nigeria any implemetation of a ERP system falls whithin the coffers of SAP, Oracle and Microsoft DYnamics with Oracle taking the lead. for those of you thinking of studying for a SAP cert its a way to go, SAP is expanding its marketing focus in Nigeria and the company i work for Southbridge Enterprise System (SAP Partner Company) is driving that market growth for the company. understanding how ERP and Buisness intelligence works, and getting handy with (sql server, oracle and MaxDB) wld do you good. in due course we would engage a handfull of SAP experts as the need arises. |

Just be careful though. I went through the academy process, got certified in NetWeaver BI 2007s and have not been able to get a project for 5 months now. I would suggest you contact SAP in Nigeria to find out what SAP modules they are selling the most before you sink your money into this stuff. |

Re: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) In Nigeria by gofestac: 8:02am On Oct 26, 2008 |
To all of you interested in getting into SAP, it is a good area to get into, for technology people have a look at BASIS for Developers have a look at ABAP and for Business people have a look at any of the core functional areas. BASIS is a lot easier if you have background in Network administration and know database management ABAP is a lot easier if you come from a programming background especially JAVA is very beneficial FUNCTIONAL is a lot easier if you have some business process knowledge in a particular area New Dimenesion things like BW CRM are also areas worth looking at BW has 2 area functional designers that build information and write queries and BW developers that also write extractors and integrate BW with other modules, Financial reporting is most in demand hance you have lots of FI consultants that have ventured into BW CRM is more for Sales people and covers a wide range of skills, but is most beneficial if you have both functional and technical knowledge. Project based work is what makes you a proper consultant and thats what gives you your edge, breaking in requires carefull planning, demand and supply, and luck, but then you can make you own luck. Which ever route you choose to pursue remember that delivering enterprise wide application solutions whether its SAP or Oracle, requires for you to be able to understand requirements in the context of the business and map these to the system, determine the gaps and propose solutions on how to fill these gaps, that is the true challenge which no training course will teach you. And for those of you wondering, yes I am an SAP Consultant, Both Functional and Technical with multi modular exprience and have been consulting for over 12 years. We are constantly trying to develop the Nigerian ecosystem and will continue to do so. The problem with the Nigerian scenario is salary expectations and it will take a liitle time for it to be very lucrative but having said that there are on going projects in Nigeria which are paying very good rates. In our country technology does not drive competition so is not considered as a core part of the business or a competitive variable variable the angle mostly played is one of efficiency and trend. Business cases are getting stronger as execs become more aware of the benefits. I can be reached at gofestac@yahoo.com |

Re: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) In Nigeria by gofestac: 8:54pm On Oct 31, 2008 |
Hi, This is great news for someone looking for an SAP overview and should applauded. I have the utmost respect for anybody that is at least to improve the SAP landscape in nigeria. However I have had a look at the course content and this is not for the serious consultant looking for a serious breakthrough, but it is a start. If any of the guys at primrose are reading this do get in touch. Over the next couple of months alot of traction will be going on in SAP in Nigeria so watch this space. |

Hi, SAP Enthusiasts, it has come to my attention, that this December a company will be providing access to SAp IDES ECC5 ECC6 BW BI7.0 CRM 5.0 CRM 2007, with the West African Market as its main focus, so it will be accepting payments in Naira locally This will enable those of you looking to self train and those looking to practice to keep them selves marketable an opportunity to do. Get in touch to find out more I think it will cost around 15 to 20 thousand Naira per Month. Gofestac@yahoo.com |
Re: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) In Nigeria by accospace: 5:01pm On Nov 21, 2008 |
Well, the likes of gofestac has about said it all in terms of what SAP is and all that, but the fact is SAP is still somewhat novel in Nigeria. You'd be surprised some IT professionals have not even heard anything about it before. Additional details can be gleaned by doing a thorough search in Google. The decision to pick up a career in SAP consulting is best not taken rashly; there are quite a number of factors to consider. Some of these have already by mentioned by the SAP consultants on this thread. I am also personally interested in the growth of SAP in Nigeria, most of the implementations around here have been global roll-outs from parent companies, and that explains why the Shells, the Totals, the BATs, the P&Gs, the Nestles, etc ( the list is not limited to the names mentioned) all run their processes on SAP. It's been a challenge with local implementations - a number of which i've been involved - the usual Nigerian issues are there to contend with, but we'd get there, i believe. At the last count, i have been involved in 6 local SAP implementations one way or the other, and the list is growing. It so happens that I am an SAP certified techno-functional consultant (Basis, SBO) based here in Naija, and been at it for over 3 years. I can be reached at accospace@ymail.com/08028371642 . Cheers everyone. |
Re: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) In Nigeria by gofestac: 8:15pm On Dec 11, 2008 |
I agree with accospace . Regarding developing the SAP market I agree totally with your take on it. However I take the view that SAP is not rocket science and should not be treated as such, all the work has already been done in building the Software in Germany all we do as consultants is implement it. SAP is what we call in re engineering enabling technology, so for a business person, understand your business processes and what you want to achieve then look to SAP for the best fit and build the GAPs, For the technical people a clear understanding of technology and its limitations is required, but where you really shine is knowing underlying technology. The challenge with Nigeria is that the technology being deployed is not required and is mostly over kill and irrelevant to driving businesses, it costs to much and in most cases baring the conglomerates it has not been implemented properly, I know this for a fact. Developing the market will required us as consultants to bring more people on board and train them across a broad skill base, in the short term there may not be enough work to sustain the model but over time we will be able to outsource some of these consultants. But first contextual knowledge is required. |
