THE EVERLASTING EPHEMERAL

A POEM

BY

JOSEPH SUCCESS

That little tinge that the heart tings
The numbness that accompanies
A pain that distorts words in exasperation
Adrenaline and a rush of sweet bile
Emptiness digging the soul depths
Suspended in a calumny pit of confusion
What calmest thou this...?
Is it jealousy or a realization...?

That the gods may strike my heart
For foolish and vain had it become
Talk of sorrow... Talk of love
These two brazens together
A captor in the arms of its captive
Being fed of my own poison
Do I seek an escape to hell...?
Or a stroll down Sesame's street?

Let the earth its fate decide
Let the sun swallow up its pride
If gold the blood of men draws
Casting a shadow in the valley of death
Would we seek for it an audience...?
Or stand with finger pointed in condemnation...?
Pray the sanity doesn't desert the mind
And sanctimony the guileless heart
