typicalgamer: I actually agree with you. I stated that clearly. I only said that using "all players" may be too definite as there are always outliers. It's why I used the example of Victor Oladipo. He didn't go through any of the USA age grade basketball group showing he really had no intention to represent them. Most players like you pointed out will chose the USA/England or any other western nation over Nigeria; I agree most will. But there are outliers, maybe few in number who will chose heritage over those. Udodi like I sited was born in the US but chose Nigeria at a very young age. He's miles ahead many persons currently representing the USA in his age group and will have no problem at all making cuts, but he chose Nigeria cause he values heritage. That's my point really. They may be very few but they do exist. |

lovewins:Probably due to parental and family pressure. You didn't factor that. Also depends on the experience such a person had growing up. However, I doubt if any just gets up and decides they must represent Nigeria. If he's good enough, the US will discover him first before Nigeria. At that point it becomes almost impossible except for aforementioned reasons. |

JohnBullMySon: You probably need to check him out to confirm this. There was no parental pressure of any kind. His father was even surprised he chose Nigeria cause they obviously would have preferred the US for him. And like I said, he was born and raised in the US but chose to represent Nigeria at the last u-18 athletics world championship. As I am sure you know, the US uses the NCAA primarily to discover their athletes, and he's been phenomenal there. He just won the 200m SEC meet a few days ago and have broken many records at Stanford already. Point is, there are people like him who for whatever reason side more with heritage and identity. Ashleigh plumtre is also like that, it's why she still insist with playing for Leicester city. I strongly believe that we'll have many more of their kind of we make our processes easy and have a system many can be proud to identify with. Some elite athletes really would love to represent Nigeria but our wahala is much. |

typicalgamer: Yen yen yen . Spencer is a role player? Somebody that was a starter with the Mavs and Nets but was affected by injuries.. Jerami Grant was at the Olympics with the US and won a gold medal, u think Spencer won't have been called up? Folarin Balogun is still up and coming anyway, so all this gragra about who will accept which invitation isn't important...if he had picked Nigeria or England,he won't be a starter ..he can't displace anybody there...so he went for the easier option 2 Likes |

lovewins: With regards to Tobi, are you telling me that the US didn't notice her exploit in the NCAA, commonwealth games and the African championship? Let's agree that the interest wasn't there, she could still have represented another country.. IAAF rule makes it easy for athletes to switch nationality, but she didn't... As for the women basketball team, I agree with you.. But again, the WNBA is not that much of a big league.. the rooster spots are limited, so the players need the national team exposure too ..Unlike NBA players that mostly don't care.. At the last men world cup, team US fielded a squad of mostly second rated players..a squad that I believe the like of Spencer can easily make.. Look at Gabe Vincent...went all the way from being a 2 way player to a starter and one of the Heats most important player this season... He plays for Nigeria too.. |

Odunayaw: I just remembered this Nigerian player that opted to play for Haiti . Emmanuel or something like that... Baba later told the media that he opted for Haiti because Nigeria demanded for bribe ..who he wan whine? 🤣. There was also Kenneth Otigba who wanted Nigeria over Hungary, a more developed country.... Alaba too... True, naturally, we are second choice to a lot of these foreign borns, but in the end, they all prefer which country they feel can help their career more.. For instance, why is Olise yet to decide on his international career? Breaking into the English and French team would be a bit hard for him, so that leaves him with Nigeria and Algeria. Algeria is a better country than Nigeria, yes, but why hasnt he considered them? Maybe fear of being targeted as an outcast? |
