The NLC we have today is a toothless bull dog that doesn't rise to occasion when is necessary. The Nigerian directors in most of the multinational companies hardly cut down overhead expenditure which is the main problems in those companies. They live in choice areas in lagos with so much bills payable. And they will factor laying of small workers and won't blink an eye on their own spending . A director 's spending alone can pay 50 staff salaries . Moreover, the foreign nationals always have good intention on how to run their companies but it the intention is always subverted through the HR who manages the labour issues in the company , just because he wants to have a good face with the management he will bring up all sort of policies to elevates him the company. So we Nigerians conspire against ourselves in the name of unnecessary greed. Its so bad |

Mboi2:Very objective analysis of the issue. I keep saying it, the Nigerians in MTN are actually the problem of MTN Nigeria. They are only thinking of thierselves and how to get mega salaries and bonuses! 1 Like |

GAZZUZZ: Indians do what best? The company that was managing before the Indians won the contract weren't ineffective or inefficient. The issue here is money. Indians want to accept the contract even when they know the pay doesn't make sense. They'll offer the call centre staff 40k while they probably pocket 60k or more all in the name of outsourcing and you say they do it better? they can as well move the call centre to south Africa and go have Indians pay workers there peanuts to work like donkeys... you can have Indians take over your workshop since they do it better. |

This is just an offshoot of the current economic realities in the country. Most multinationals can not afford to maintain a decent profit margin. Cost of service is constantly on the increase - raising cost of gas to maintain base stations, incessant vandalism of base stations, raising interest rate and worst of all, this incremental cost can not be passed on to final consumers. For the telecommunications companies, it's even worse off when you factor the stiff competition within that sector as companies compete for the declining share of consumer wallets. While communication is important it is not a "bare necessities" as Food, Clothing and Shelter comes first according to hierarchy of needs. I'm sure a lot of people on this site and even Nigeria as a whole was quick to support the FG in the fine against MTN. While I believe sanctions are important, it would have been better managed. Now, the company is going through hard times and need to reduced cost to it's barest. That's expected because companies are run to make profit for shareholders. Exceptions are NGO but even at that, they need to manage their cost so they can deliver more value. I'm not a staff or spokesman for MTN but it's the sad realities that have been experienced across all multinationals. Big companies are struggling with declining revenue and even loses. (wouldn't want to mention names but we all sure the reports even on Nairaland). Soon the emerging middle class would disappear and we will be back to either you are rich or poor. Crime will grow exponentially as people will begin to steal/rob to survive. God save us. It's high time we all return to agriculture both for internal consumption and export proceeds. 2 Likes |

willibounce1: if the Indians will bring in more money why not. Let's be objective Mtn is out to make profit, they will still employ nigerians that live in ibadan and environs. P.S unna gov just recently fined them big,and you were all clapping. |
Re: We Didn’t Sack 1,500 Workers - MTN Denies Report by willibounce1(m): 1:16pm On Oct 05, 2016 |
GAZZUZZ: Our govt fined MTN because they didn't follow the rules... at least Etisalat, airtel and glo did not suffer the same fate. Indians won't help them make more money, rather they'll make more money for themselves buy cheating the Nigerians working for them. I guess the former outsourcing company did not agree to pay call center agents 46k because they knew it didn't make any sense. But the Indians will jump at it because they don't care about the welfare of their workers... they are ready to pay 46k and make people work like camels and pocket the rest. The fact that Nigerians are left with no option than to do these crazy jobs doesn't mean it is right. Indians will make people work from Monday to Sunday, 9am to 9 pm and pay 30 to 40k... what kinda life is that... again I do not blame them, it is the govt that has failed. 2 Likes |

Mboi2: The choice is Thiers Don't blame a company that is founded by somebody and has come here to do business. Blame the archaic educational system that produces graduate who go about file in hand seeking a white collar job. Whatever they offer if they offer and you take it,stop complainhg because the interest of the company and its owner's come first. |

cekhoe: d so called ISONBPO are looking for cheap labor, thy didn't value our education, thy told those thy employ dat d job is for secondary student back in India and I keep asking mysef why didn't thy employ d India secondary student to d job more so MTN are big lies, thy made it clear last year when ISONBPO were to take over their call centre dat no single staff will b sack from MTNNigeria (big family) that there would be a seemless transition bw CNSSL (own by ENGR GBENGA ADEBAYO who refuse to pay his staff their entitlement up to date i.e salary, pension for almost a year has nt been remittance, pay off, tax clearance and leave allowance) ISONBPO which didn't happen. Both CNSSL and MTNNigeria lack integrity. 1 Like |

sanjo8630: MTN Nigeria and CNSSL lack integrity... Engr GBENGA ADEBAYO should pay his disengage staff their entitlement (sept salary, pension for almost a year, tax clearance, leave bonus) and he shouldn't compel or force to sign an exist clearance form when he has not complied with offer of employment. This is d death warrant he (engr gbenga adebayo want his lay off staff to sign.... "I hereby further comfirm and declare that I have no claims, right or entitlement whatsoever or howsoever against CNSSL,CCL or it agent or reps, whether civil or criminal at common law under any statutes or in tort arising out of or in connection with my service with the company " |

kamalcole3000:Please read what I wrote once more. I narrated what happened. Like I said, the staff rejeceted the offer and left. Did you hear of any demonstration by the staff? Every company is out to maximise profit so with MTN. If ur employer gives a condition that is not favourable u leave and that was what they did. Where we fault MTN is that they have the resources to make all those contract staff permanent staff which their current CEO proposed when he came but the Nigerians at the top in GOP and other locations kicked against it. Remember everybody must not be self employed, there must be provisions for white collar jobs and people must fill those positions so don't blame anybody. |

Well, a lot has been said about this, but truth be told Nigerians are never patrotic and that is why a company will come into nigeria and try to reintroduce slavery which was long abolished in the name of offering a job. i speak not because i was told but because i was one of those recently affected. kindly note that the least number of years those who were affected has worked is 5years some have worked up to 10years as contract staff, many now are married with kids some with dependent and lots of mouth to feed and you tell that same person to go take a job less than 50% of what you earned previously in this current economic situation and want the person to relocate within 3days to a new location, yet you say you did not sack anyone. i know many will sit at home and just write what they like especially gazzuz i must say am so disappointed at your comment, you run a workshop and you make money then you think that's all to life every other person should go eat shit, well i don't blame you cos that is an average nigerian mentality which one day will only divide us. My opinion, Mtn did what can be classified as abominable but they were aided by Nigerians (Oga at the top). they actually sacked us but i leave them to God. i knew it will come to this so by God's grace i prepared myself now i have decided to move on, cos i only see this as opportunity to bring out the best in me. MTN can deny and buy all to their side (senators, media, lawyers e.t.c) But the mill of God grinded slowly but surely. your sins will re-visit you all. you can dine and wine as usual nothing has come out of this, but kindly note you have a case with God and there shall be no Appeal. 2 Likes |

I saw all this coming and ran away in 2014. In fact I worked night, went back home to take a shower and took a taxi to the airport. Two years from then, I do not regret my decision. Those wet dey laugh us set dem no segment to Bronze that time dey beg us to show them the way to enter now. MTN executives are greedy men without conscience. |
