A legal practitioner in Nigeria has revealed that in Nigerian law, forcefully sleeping with your wife against her will is not rape.

Barrister Kutuh took to his Twitter page to reveal that the Nigerian law does consider sleeping with your spouse in marriage without the other party’s consent as rape because a man can not rape his own wife under Nigerian law.

“The laws governing rape in Nigeria are the Criminal Code and the Penal Code. The Criminal Code is applicable to Southern Nigeria and the Penal Code is applicable to Northern Nigeria.

The OYETADE family of 3B, Sakama Street/Road, Off lbrahim Taiwo Road, write to express our dismay at the unseemly deployment of inhumane tactics by the Christ Apostolic Church, CAC Oke-Isegun, Ilorin DCC HEADQUARTERS, Taiwo Isale, Ilorin, Kwara State to bully the Oyetade family into submission.

Since 1969 when it was built, the house has served as the family house to at least three generations of the Oyetade family. Barring any natural disaster of gigantic proportions, the house has become a home that we hope to keep in the Oyetade lineage for many generations still.

Recently, our neighbours; the CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH, OKE-ISEGUN in ILORIN acquired all other neighbours directly situated behind the church in a bid to expand their property. For the reasons stated in the paragraphs above, we outrightly refused to sell our house/land. What has followed has been an unholy barrage of strong-arming tactics designed to press-gang us into selling the house and/or to make things difficult for the Oyetade family henceforth.

Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun erected a tentative fence with corrugated iron sheets which made access to the Oyetade family house difficult. We foresaw what was to come and as a law-abiding family, we filed a suit at the Upper Area Court 1 of Kwara State in the Ilorin Judicial Division. The honourable court granted an injunction against the erection of any structure (fence and otherwise) that would impede the movement to and from the Oyetade home.

With the case in Court, one would think a church of God would obey the Court's decision and stay the execution of radically permanent projects pending the final outcome of the case. But in a shocking turn of events over the last few days, Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun has defied court orders and erected a fence with building blocks that will definitively restrict the access link road of anyone to and fro the Oyetade family house. Furthermore, on the instruction of the church, some unscrupulous elements working on the illegal fencing refused us passage to the Oyetade house; citing the illegal fence as reason.

All efforts by the Oyetade family to amicably resolve this show of shame by the Oke-Isegun, Ilorin branch of the highly reputed CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH has been rebuffed time and again by the elders and a senior pastor of the church, Evangelist Akeredolu Emmanuel Toluwase. In fact, AFTER receiving the Court's injunction, some hoodlums operating in the apparent interest of the church blocked passage to the Oyetade house while the illegal construction of the fence went on.

Ideally, the Christ Apostolic Church should be a paragon of morality and correctitude. Instead, it has been quite the opposite and we just have to bring these series of unfortunate events to the notice of the appropriate authorities. An international church of that magnitude should not wilfully flout the rule of law. It is unseemly, it is unholy, it is unGodly and most importantly, it is illegal to strong-arm a family into selling its property.

While the honourable court will handle the case once courts re-open after the corona virus is conquered, we write to appeal to the highest authorities of the CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH and the general public to help stop this ghastly bullying of the Oyetade family.

What should we call an anti-graft agency that was saddled with the responsibility of curbing corruption in the country but aiding the corruption?
EFCC, no doubt, has been another yet to be registered Political Party in the country or better still, a shadow member of the ruling party(APC). In abetting the corrupt practice of APC, our anti-graft agency had shown unflinching support for the Lion of the Burdillion, the pictured bullion van is not enough to prosecute him, he’s one of them, he hasn’t violated any rules of the EFCC, they own the ruling party together. But Saraki should be prosecuted, hanged and if he failed to join the party, killed for mere suspicion.

There is need to know where he got the money used to build his GRA Ilorin house, EFCC doesn’t have the papers shreds of evidence and they don’t need it just like they have the pictorial evidence of one of their members.

Saraki has been vindicated, the guile act by the anti-graft agency is just another evidence of how rotten our system is in Nigeria. Here we don’t want a loyal man, we want someone that would not make a step to rewrite the wrong and Saraki is not the type.

He’s a maverick brand that all Nigerian Politicians wish to align with, he is the mover and shaker even outside of power. They know this better than their vuvuzelas and they must have him either by hook or by nail.

The same case made by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court between September 22, 2015, to July 6, 2018, has again been brought to life by the EFCC – a case that has earlier made it way to the apex court of law in the land was manipulated by to the court to settle political scores.

It is however sad that our anti-graft agency allowed themselves to be used as a political weapon, shame on our faces irrespective of our political affiliation.

It is a belief, a very strong one, that Saraki like always would conquer this, mark himself safe of all shadow allegations levelled against him by the Political Economic Financial Crime Commission.

This time is not for us to sober, but the right time to see the wonder of God in Saraki’s life outside power, if really you appreciate patriotism, you will see Saraki is one. A revered fellow who peddled the ship of our affairs – both in the state and federal well during his time. The lies against him are now coming to the knowing, haters are now seeking for forgiveness but we keep telling God is enough for us and He only can forgive us of our sins.

Unarguably, Saraki is coming back bigger, better and stronger with the fear of all falsehoods fashioned against him.

The Federal Government says there is no evidence to back up claim that was made by the Transparency International that Nigeria is currently the most corrupt country in West Africa.

Transparency International in its new ranking, placed Nigeria at 146 out of the 180 countries on the 2019 corruption perception index.

In an interview with Channels TV today January 23rd, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, said TI’s report had no bearing on reality.

“In terms of the fight against corruption, we have been doing more, we have done more and we will continue to do more out of inherent conviction and desire on our part to fight against corruption devoid of any extraneous considerations relating to the rating by Transparency International.

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi was crowned the first-ever player to win six Ballon d’Or trophy at a ceremony which took place in Paris on Monday night (Dec,2).

Before the event, the Argentine skipper Messi and his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo who both dominated the Ballon d’Or for a decade between 2008 and 2017, were on five each before the Barcelona superstar broke the tie yesterday.

In a new interview, Messi revealed that he was hurt when Cristiano Ronaldo joined him on five Ballon d’Or triumphs, claiming that the Portuguese will be experiencing similar emotions after he failed to show up at the 2019 Ballon d’Or’ ceremony.

“On the one hand, I enjoyed having five and being the only one,” Messi told France Football. ‘When Cristiano moved level, I admit that it hurt me a bit. I was no longer alone at the top. But it make sense, although it was good when I was alone at five.

“Was I frustrated in the last few years? Let’s say I understood why I did not win. As a team, we had not achieved our major goal, which was to win the Champions League, which gives you more chances to win the Ballon d’Or.

“When Cristiano Ronaldo won it is because he had achieved great seasons by winning the Champions League and being decisive. It was deserved, there was not much I could do.

“Did I feel injustice? It’s up to you to tell me if the Ballon d’Or is awarded to the best player or the one who enjoys the best season.

“It is also down to individual taste. Some prefer Cristiano, others myself or Neymar or [Kylian] Mbappe. People have the right to choose the one they like most.”

“Do I understand Ronaldo’s frustration? It is something that we live, feel and express according to our own way of being.

“Once again, the collective titles are the most important thing, even if the individual trophies are rewarding. When the Ballon d’Or eludes you, everyone reacts in their own way. But when you are a top athlete, you always want to win.”
