How Patience Defeated Tantrums

It is no longer news that the amiable, lovable, friendly, responsive and responsible Students Union President of our great Better By Far university was slapped by a man whose position, job and level of education negates that act of ignominy he has committed. We, as an association, with no prejudice bastardise such dastardly act on a very eminent student leader as ours or any other student of this university. Such cases of this magnitude has often been reported with no actions taken to tackle such blazing inferno but Dr. Ajiboye's overreaction to an apparently simple issue was the nadir of all. This is a universal city where actions and reactions are expected to be taken with caution based on the enormity of characters and population of students available. An injury to one is an injury to all, and a slap on one is a slap on all. That the Students Union President was hit by a supposed ready-made listening ear to students makes one weary and largely uncomfortable and also, makes us highly disappointed. We abhor in totality, this ignoble act.

The reaction of Com. Shobowale Lukman(Eminent) to Dr. Ajiboye's action was legendary and has been roundly commended by all, far or near. It is one that preaches peace in a heated situation and a reaction that only signifies his level of patience and maturity towards handling contentious cases as this. It will be noteworthy to remind the President that such reaction has clearly laid a precedent for other leaders who may tend to lose their tempers when faced with difficult situations, in as much as we believe that such will never repeat itself again in any part of the school. We hail his patience and pray for more wisdom for him to lead this school to the right path.

We pray to the school management to help take a worthy and fast decision on the disrespect meted out on the entire studentship of our great, better by far university and we hope this will serve as a deterrent to many other members of academic and nonacademic staff of the university who lack the simple ability to control their vituperation and angst, even in simple situations. We also oblige students to be as patient as possible when they encounter such fractious moments as only the patient wins a waiting game. God bless the University of Ilorin!

Our stand on this incident is for the school to suspend Dr. Ajiboye as the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, instruct him to make a public apology in media houses and dailies as the respect on the entire studentship of the University of Ilorin has been questioned and also prevent him from granting interviews denying what's open to many people in order to prevent a continuation of such ignominy. The entire school and the League of Association Faculty Presidents patiently await the school's judgement on this abominable act and totally trust the school management to act according to the laws.

We ask the school management to also always remind members of staff of the university on the need to be very patient in dealing with students and punish Dr. Ajiboye with no laxity as the school's image to the outside world is under immense scrutiny and the world awaits how much our school respects her students. We remain a peaceful people that won't act barbarically and our teachers, who are expected to pass knowledge to us are only expected to be better! Thank you!

God bless Unilorites!
God bless Eminent!
God bless the school management!
And God bless us all!
