As we sat sharing a cup of cappuccino, I was enraptured in the reminiscence of our pure and true romance from 1997 to 2007. 10 whole years. I couldn't help, but reminisce as she stood up to gyrate to a musical video with her ebuillent younger sister, Laura the rapper. She was only 17 When the publisher of our magazine led her into our office in Lagos. She was an attractive damsel and was delighted to meet me, the Editor. She wanted to be a model. I directed her to Ben Bruce of Silverbird Productions, because I knew that my fellow old boys were the best in modeling and beauty pageants. And they gave her the first big break in 1998. And Linda never looked back. I remember the first time I took her to the Mr. Bigg's on Adeniran Ogunsanya Street in Surulere, Lagos. I remember when I took her along to an exclusive seminar sponsored by Chevron in 1997 and as we relaxed to enjoy the buffet lunch we had everyday. Then our first kiss on one of my birthdays on January 30. I remember when we danced like two star-crossed lovers at the Genesis Night Club on Sanusi Fafunwa Street on Victoria Island, Lagos. Dan Foster and Olisa Adibua of 96.9 Cool FM, Mona Ami, Frank Oshodi, Tu Face Idibia, Emeka Enyiocha, and others were there to celebrate her 21st birthday. Now, Linda is the youngest female publisher of a society and style magazine in Africa at 26. Her Fashion, Modeling and Beauty (FM&B) magazine is even rated above aunty Betty Irabor's Genevieve and now one of the in-flight magazines of Virgin Nigeria. The Spring edition is ready. And she has invested so much time and money to make sure that her magazine will be the pride of Nigeria internationally. "I am bored without you," she always confessed. "I will return to Lagos next month," I said. I bought her a dress before I left Lagos. I am proud of Linda Ikeji, because she is reaping what she sowed. Love. Pure and true love. She will always be my sweetheart. True love never lies. I thank God! Here is a toast to us Linda and I with this Nat King Cole's classic, Just You, Just Me. Just You, Just Me (J. Greer, R. MyPeace: She is more real than you. And our relationship is beyond your fantasy. We are the Nigerian dream. We are taking Nigeria higher. Why not make a difference too. She is still the highest paid model in Nigeria and the first ever African model to become the publisher of a first class society and style magazine. And she is only 26. Just like at 20, I single-handedly sponsored the participation of Nigeria at two world Picture Book Fairs in Tokyo, Japan. And I did not broadcast it to the whole country. No Nigerian has beaten our records so far. I am actaully online to challenge my fellow Nigerians to do more for Nigeria. |
