So Nigeria’s President has not been around for 60 days, and what people are worried about are the jibes being thrown about by pop stars?

They said they are entertaining us with their beef and that the diss is good for the industry. Well, sorry, but these guys are not suffering what the mass of Nigerians are suffering at the moment.

Not to discredit their craft or the value they have and continue to bring to the country, Wizkid’s international collaborations with A-listers like Drake are to be celebrated, and his BET successes are a source of pride. Tekno has drawn the attention of foreign media with his hit single ‘Pana’ being described by one publication as a genius work which managed to sexualize a staple Nigerian crop (still not sure that was a good thing though). And Davido has also made global headlines for his own acts too.

But, these ‘children’ should shift. Right now, the matter on ground is bigger than their duck and lion cracks. We know they will eventually make up, as they already are anyway. It is all in the package for publicity and awareness (and that’s fine), but they should not become primetime subject at a time when the country is dancing on the brink. How will their ‘who international pass’ help Nigerians answer the National Question and have the current wave of inter-ethnic tensions threatening the future of the country pass over?

If they were arguing about why the Senate should be looking to support the Acting President rather than testing and teasing him, we will be retweeting very fast. If they tell us they are dissing each other because they have contrary information about where President Buhari is, maybe we will be interested. And knowing how much they tour and travel, should they not have even a small idea about it, from their agents and their connections?

Admittedly, that would be a long shot. Even if they do, it would probably be wrong to share on social media. But the point remains that if they cannot be like John Legend who is helping Americans follow up on President Donald Trump – who, at least, they can see and attack directly on Twitter – Wizkid and his classmates should please carry their big boy noises away from our Assembly Ground; we are trying to know what the Acting Principal is saying about changes in the school. We know Wizzy and co are prefects can’t get punished much by any changes, and their meals are always assured when its refectory time. They should allow we commoners to hear word.
