agaugust: Read the latest comic relief from the South-Africans. SANDF troops hitch "taxi flights" and were stranded in bangui were they were roundly defeated, while Zuma acquires new Private jets. Like a certain hegemon/ colossus in west-Africa, although this country's Airforce has over 30 Transport planes(including 7 C-130's and 6 G-222's) the Government said no, you need additional troop transports. So, the Government went out an purchased more troop transports. Why can't a certain Government in Southern-Africa act responsibly........ is this too much to ask? 3 Likes 1 Share

Henry120:Bad reporting and confusion. The controversy is over why SAAF is getting VVIP transport planes first before medium or strategic transport planes which are also badly needed while the presidential jet isn't that really old. Another issue is that they're planning to get an interim plane not something new. The money for those other projects is still there, as you can see the A-Darter project is now going into production. |

Johannesburg - A storm is brewing over the acquisition of new VIP jets for President Jacob Zuma and his Cabinet at a cost of R2 billion, just after Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene announced revised spending plans to reduce waste. Netwerk24 reported that the three new VIP jets - a Boeing Business Jet and two new Falcon 900 Business Jets - were being acquired for "international commitments" as the president's international obligations have increased dramatically. However, the money to be spent on the new jets was originally earmarked to buy crucial freight carriers needed for South African troops abroad. Not enough aircrew Netwerk24 reported that there were also not enough pilots and crew to fly the new jets. Maynier said of the 830 posts for aircrew, 348 were vacant. http://m.news24.com/news24/SouthAfrica/Politics/Storm-brewing-over-Zumas-new-VIP-jets-20150405 3 Likes 1 Share |

MikeCZAR:Here's a funny comment. "Hi, Just heard on the news now..new VIP planes are a definite... egoism at its best. Dont live far from the Rand Show grounds...one brief fly past by a Hawk(I think) and three Pilatus Silver Falcons in formation for a few seconds and then gone. Hardly any or very little assistance from the SAAF in controlling the massive blazes in Cape Town, but we will rock up in Nairobi or Lagos or wherever in our luxurious business jets" Come to Lagos in your business jets, while troops are left stranded. Come and ball in Lasgidi!! Welcome to Lagos!!!! 1 Like 1 Share

MikeCZAR: Dean "However, at Bangui, we had troops on the ground in contact with the rebels and needed airlift with reinforcements urgently, into a hot zone. We could not, and cannot, sit around for days whilst an airlift is found, flown all the way to SA, loaded with reinforcements and urgently needed equipment, then flown back to the battle zone. The goverment is playing with the lives of their troops in foreign hostile zones whilst putting their own luxurious needs first." Henry120:The South Africa air force will only give assistance if required so. SAAF Oryx helicopters were used in putting out the blazes. It isn't their task to fight fires. The assistance was limited cause of the people leading the operations. Actually it was Algeria(SA's biggest North Africa ally) and Egypt(to mend relations after the whole coup thing). |

Msauza:I am going to be real and you're going to get hurt. You compare the united states to south Africa. Well, they both share something in common; the scum of the black race. America is still seen as a white country whose military, economic and technological superiority are all driven by the white man. Blacks make up 13% of the population which put them roughly within 60 million people but they never managed to make their mark outside music and sports despite being in the land of the free and most technologically advanced country on earth. South Africa in all honesty was built, organised and structured by the anglo-dutch as an extension of Europe over 300 years ago. despite blacks being over 90% of the population. It was Europe away from Europe. Then in 1994 apartheid become unpopular. Black southies were asked to partake in civilised conduct and they voted themselves into power via population count. South Africa has been nose diving and free falling in all possible indexes. From a stagnant economy to poor organisation; from crime to city-decay; from corruption to mismanagement; inefficiency to poor standard of education; infrastructural decay to urban crimes, mass sexual to other sexual maladjustments. Whites are fleeing from Johannesburg to sandton as blacks move in. Anglo-dutch companies are fleeing south Africa due to harsh ANC policies and setting up shops in other African countries, especially Nigeria. Blacks are mismanaging firms, institutions own and built by anglo-dutch. There's no single aspect of the economy, society or institution the anglo-dutch built that the blacks have improved upon. instead they brag and boast in Africa of what the anglo-dutch had built and seek to intimidate others with it and yet lacking in ideas on how to improve on them. Consequently, and rightly so, the world still views every good thing that comes out of South Africa has a credit to the anglo-dutch. Just as any wonderful piece of innovation from the US is automatically tied to the Anglo-Saxon or whites. That is why south Africa lacks legitimacy in Africa. That's why she isn't a leader. That is why she cannot encourage and spur Africa to greatness. South Africa has had a peaceful and smooth "democratic" transition of power for 21 years but yet the world reacted in Nigerian just concluded general elections as if it were the first of its kind in Africa. It is because the world is waiting for an African magic and leadership which credit can be given to african without the proverbial feeding bottle of the white man; something the world can report in their tabloids and say, AFRICA HAS DONE IT. That's what south Africa can NEVER GIVE TO AFRICA. she isn't a country of white/black/Jewish etc etc. She is almost 90% black. And she can't give credit to the entire black Africa when she can't even differentiate between civil rule and democracy, can't understand international politics or build an economy. Like the ISS report says, south Africa is "punching above their weight". That's what you guys are doing here with a blatant show of ignorance , misled by a confused and misguided educational system which couldn't adjust to the realities of pre-apartheid South Africa and post -apartheid South Africa. 1 Like |

Henry120:Algerian and Egyptian not Nigeria SAAF was able to deploy reinforcements within 48 hours of the battle. And Sub-saharan African air force can do that, some cried about in airlift when Sonogo took power in Mali and rebels were advancing South at a great speed. Purchasing airlift aircraft won't be simple like finding a second hand interim VVIP aircraft. 1 Like |

jln115:and while you ponder on that source enjoy this little excerpt: Disclaimer: The Internationalist campaign of Cuba in Angola is often portrayed in some internet sites and articles according the point of view of former members of the South African (Apartheid government) Military, the SADF: such sources glorify the war machine of one of the most brutal regimes of the last century and stain the historical memory of the freedom fighters that fought to knock down the racist regime. Such elements will ever try to make such works, in desperate frustration after the loss of privileges of the white conservative minority. Regardless their futile attempts, the ultimate and final downfall of the racist regime has put an headstone on these nostalgic, while the Cuban Revolution goes on and the African countries 1 Like |

jln115:Take more : Battle of Quifangondo 10 November 1975 Decisive Allied strategic, tactic and moral Victory. Luanda was saved, the FNLA was destroyed, the South African invaders were forced to retreat. When the fate of the Republic was in danger, it was this battle that changed the fate of the war. -------------------------------- A coalition of 2000 counter-revolutionaries of the FNLA under Holden Roberto, 1200 Zairian soldiers of Mamina Lama, 120 Portuguese mercenaries of Santos e Castro, and 52 South Africans of Ben Roos were faced by 850 Angolans and 88 Cubans (sometimes reported 188 by error) and a single Soviet officer, under the command of the Angolan General Ndozi and the Cuban Raul Diaz Arguelles. Sometimes it’s claimed the presence of a group of 200 Katanguese, fighting against the FNLA. -------------------------------- Cuban forces ambushed the enemy using 6 rocket launchers BM-21. It was an unexpected weapon and the enemy did not even reached the Cubans-Angolans. It was a massacre, almost all the FNLA soldiers were killed by the rockets, mortar’s and light fire, the white racist soldiers used them as cannon’s fodder and only 5 Portuguese mercenaries were killed. 6 jeeps and 20 Phanard armoured were destroyed or abandoned. Despite most of the FNLA fighting-force was reported as destroyed, a Polish source claims that actually FNLA suffered only 120 dead. The 3 South African guns of 140mm didn’t fired, while one of the two ex-North Korean guns of 130mm of the Zairian detonated at the first salvo killing the soldiers around it because it was not cleaned and repaired. Only two Cubans were wounded and the Angolans suffered 2 wounded and 1 dead, killed while he was moving out from the trench. Another pro-Angolan advisor was wounded, the only Soviet that took part at the action. -------------------------------- This important victory, nick-named by the enemy as the Road of Death, was the end of the enemy chance to destroy the growing socialist African movements and the hope of all the coloured people under the racism and was probably the battle with the main big difference between casualties, with one dead to an extimate of two thousands dead. It was almost the end for the counter-revolutionary FNLA group, known to have ethnic groups notorious for bloody massacres against civilians (including episodes of cannibalism ). Map of the battle, from Wikipedia. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Henry120:No, it is the responsibility of local municipality. They had a contract with a private aerial firefighting company. That company wouldn't be happy if the air force started taking their job. It was only after when the flames were out of control did they ask for help. people criticise the air force for doing nothing no the fighting was coordinated with spotter planes and all that. The helicopters didn't just run to get water and bomb. SAAF will dedicate resources if they ask for help and it did. The Oryx is not a Super Puma they might have similar capabilities but they're different. Get your facts first! 1 Like |

Henry120:Nigerian troops lost towns after towns without any reinforcement. Nigeria also bought a VIP helicopter last year while BH controlled towns. 48 hours under a short notice SAAF was able to deploy reinforcements. No country in sub-saharan Africa could've done a thing during the Battle of Bangui, as no country has capability to airlift helicopters the size of the Rooivalk and Oryx without removing their gearboxes. There is a project to get new airlift aircraft, people are just saying why buy VVIP instead of getting airlifters first. 1 Like |

Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by patches689: 2:04am On Apr 08, 2015 |
agaugust: Augutus. No one cares about the rear survey - we are talking about the sides. Unless your radar dish rotates 360 degrees you have no coverage there. AN/APG radar is more powerfull than the Girfo-7 and is about as old
