Federal Government May Continue With Ribadu’s Trial by egift(m): 5:06am On Apr 13, 2010
The Federal Government, on Monday, indicated that the nolle prosequi filed to stop the criminal trial of erstwhile chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission {EFCC}, Nuhu Ribadu, for alleged failure to declare his assets while in office may be withdrawn if the preponderance of public opinion was against it.

It also assured that there would be no sacred cow in the fight against corruption.

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke SAN, made these known while fielding questions from journalists during his maiden visit to the commission’s headquarters on Monday.

When asked about the plan to stop Ribadu’s trial, the minister stated that no responsible government would ignore the popular view of its people, adding that the government was not unaware of the public reaction to the move, especially the criticism that trailed it.

On the purported plan to appoint Ribadu as an aide to the Acting President on anti-corruption crusade, the minister said that though the Nigerian leader reserved the right to work with anybody he chose, nobody had discussed such appointment with him and he was not aware any was in the pipe-line.

Adoke also assured the commission and its leadership of his full support, saying that he was delighted with the efforts of the Commission to eradicate corruption from Nigeria .
