WELCOME TO LIVING IN CANADA/LIFE AS A CANADIAN IMMIGRANT PART TWO

Please see Part 1 here for reference purposes: PART 1

This thread is about Life in Canada for immigrants.

It is an avenue for people that have immigrated to Canada (with their families) to share their experiences to help future hopefuls.

Highlights of the Body of Knowledge about Nigerian immigrants in Canadian written about in the Living in Canada thread is linked in below posts.

Note however, that these are all personal experiences. Individual experiences differ and the way we interprete them also differ. Take these experiences not as gospel but as a base point for learning more.

Why is there a part two when part one is still ongoing? I appreciate the fact that you have made vital information easily accessible, but shouldn't it follow the usual procedure? @joo2018
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by olajide21: 9:15am On Jan 01, 2019
You ought to call on @justwise for closure of part 1 first besides we are just about 505 pages in the first part. We can do few hundreds more perhaps to 700 or so. You've done a good good though.
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by joo2018: 10:43am On Jan 01, 2019
Interesting observations, @Unlimited22, @CanadianNaija, @jhoci, @olajide21.

Generally, a new thread is opened before the old one is closed. I'm sure the delay in migrating was due to time it was opened and the New Year.

Was there chance to go from 500 pages to 700 on the old thread? Yes and it doesn't matter when you are an old contributor.

But when you are new and just trying to learn about living in Canada on NL, 500 pages might be a lot to search through with the important information scattered throughout the thread. So with a slow moving thread like this, it made sense to stop there and start a new one.

After reading to and fro, all opinions and experiences on part 1, I want to ask here in part 2, I hope it is not illegal if an immigrant dependant is collecting child benefit while staying outside Canada for a period of time, say 1year and half. Reason for dependant not staying inside Canada is genuine.

Don't know how else to say it. You're suppose to be in the country. If you leave the country you should contact CRA or whichever govt agency pays you to stop the payments.

I am in the country and filling my tax but my spouse and dependant are not (though they did soft landing) due to urgent assignment she needs to complete back home.

The child must live with you. This is all online on the govt web site.

Oh thanks, I saw that on their website. What actually got me confused was child benefit was calculated for PR factual residency who lives outside Canada could that have implied they also consider it if dependant is not residing in CA, at the moment?
