Who Art Thou?
TEXT: Genesis 27:18-24

"And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son" (Genesis 27:18)

The question Isaac asked Jacob is a very important question because Isaac wanted to confirm the true identity of the one to receive his blessings. Isaac asked Jacob, "Who art thou, my son?" Jacob lied that he was Esau. He deceived his father, and his father gave him the blessing.

Are you like Jacob, a deceiver? Do you cheat other children in order to make progress? Do you pull down others so that you can climb to the top? Repent today and turn away from such bad behaviour!

Later in Genesis 32:27, the angel again asked Jacob the same question, "What is your name?" He replied by saying "Jacob," he had realized his wrongdoing. He corrected his past error. He answered his name correctly because that was the only condition to receive mercy and answer to his prayer. Then the angel of God blessed him.

If you have told lies in the past, today, you can make your way right. Repent and confess your sins to Jesus, ask Him to wash you clean in His blood, and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. Then, you can freely come and enjoy the promised blessings for His children.

Prayer: Forgive me Lord for past sins, and give me the grace to always be truthful

A Cry For Help
TEXT: Mark 10:46-52

"And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me" (Mark 10:47)

Children usually cry for help whenever they are in trouble. The blind man in our text, cried unto Jesus for mercy because he needed a miracle.

The disciples of Jesus also cried to Jesus for help when they faced a storm. The Centurion called on Jesus to heal his servant, and the woman with an issue of blood touched Jesus and she was made whole.

All these people and many more acted on faith to receive their needed blessings. They believed that Jesus has the power to meet them at the point of their needs. They were not disappointed.

Whatever may be the need in your life: healing, health, academics, success, protection, provision, etc., call on Jesus today, and He will answer you.

Whenever you are crying to God for help, be specific, ask what you desire in faith and do not doubt. A sinner needs to first cry for forgiveness and mercy from Jesus before asking for others things. Do you desire anything from God? Cry to Him now, He will answer you.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, hear my prayer when I call upon You

Acceptable Service Unto God
TEXT: Genesis 4:3-7

"And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering" (Genesis 4:4)

Our heavenly Father wants us to offer acceptable service to Him. Before we can offer any service to God, our ways must be right. God will not accept the service of children who are still doing bad things.

From our passage today, both Cain and Abel made sacrifices to God, but God rejected the sacrifice of Cain because his heart was not right with Him. God accepted the sacrifice of Abel because He saw that Abel's heart was pure and holy.

In the same way, God wants us to give our lives to Him and be pure in heart before we render any service unto Him. For your service to be acceptable to God, you must:

(a) Surrender your life to God.
(b) Serve God acceptably.
(c) Serve God wholeheartedly.
(d) Serve God with a perfect heart.
(e) Serve God faithfully.
(f) Serve God sacrificially.
(g) Serve God in righteousness.
(h) Serve God continually.

Prayer: Father, help me to serve You with a perfect heart all the days of my life

The Light Of The World
TEXT: Matthew 5:14-16

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid" (Matthew 5:14)

Light is very essential to everybody. We need light to see things in dark places. Also, when we want to do some things at home, we use light. Many children are scared of darkness. Some cannot even sleep without light. We cannot live a comfortable and good life without light.

This world is in darkness because of the evil behaviour and activities of sinners in it. Jesus came as Light to this dark evil world. Friends of Jesus are called to be the light of the world. They are to brighten the world through their righteous lives, and by preaching the gospel of Jesus everywhere.

It doesn't matter how big or small you are; neither does your age or level of education matter. God demands that every friend of Jesus should obey His commandment to live a holy life and preach the gospel. Go out today to shine as light, and bring souls to Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, let my light shine and bring souls to You

A Clean Heart
TEXT: Psalm 51:5-10

"Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10)

God wants every believer to be holy as He is holy. Because of the holy nature of God, He hates sin.

When God created man, He created us in His own image. When Adam and Eve disobeyed the commandment of God by eating of the forbidden fruit in the garden, sin entered the world, and the world is now full of corrupt people.

Jesus Christ came in the form of man to die on the cross of Calvary, and shed His blood to save us from sin and give us a new heart. He gives us this new heart by cleansing us from every sin and purifying our hearts with His blood.

Any child born into this world who does not confess his or her sin and accept Jesus as his or her personal Lord and Saviour remains a sinner with a dirty heart.

The blood of Jesus is still available and powerful to wash away every sin and give you a clean heart that makes you fit to go with Jesus to heaven when He comes. Come to Jesus now and He will give you a clean and perfect heart, completely free of sin.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, cleanse me and purify my heart

James: A Disciple Of Jesus
TEXT: Luke 6:12-15

"Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes" (Luke 6:15)

James, a disciple of Jesus, was also called Jacob (in Hebrew). His father's name was Alphaeus, from the family of Levi. He was generally referred to as 'James the less', probably because he was the younger or smaller in stature than James, the son of Zebedee.

James was one of the twelve disciples whom Jesus sent out to preach in every city and village. He was among those who received the baptism in the Holy Ghost at the Upper Room.

James was also one of the apostles who formed the foundation of the New Testament Church in Jerusalem. Though not as active as some other disciples were, he identified with Christ, and lived a holy life as a committed Christian till the end.

Holiness is still God's standard for all true followers of Jesus who desire to get to heaven at the end of their life's journey. Preach it, and live by it.

Prayer: Make me holy, O Lord!

The Kingdom Of God
TEXT: John 3:1-5

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3))

The kingdom of God is the dwelling place of God and His angels. It is a beautiful place prepared by God for His children to live with Him forever. Heaven is a place of everlasting peace, joy and rest.

The condition for entering this very place, and to see God, is holiness without which no one can see the Lord. As a child of God, you must be watchful to remain qualified to enter the kingdom of God.

The qualifications for a sinner to enter heaven are:

(a) Surrender your heart to Jesus, and allow Him to reign in your life.
(b) Love God with your whole heart and obey all His commandments.
(c) Love other people as yourself.
(d) Run away from people and things that can make you miss the kingdom of God.
(e) Live a holy life every day.

Each day you live, think of the beautiful place God has prepared for the saints, and pray to enter there.

Prayer: O Lord, help me to live a holy life in this world, so that I will enter Your Kingdom at last

Holiness
TEXT: Leviticus 19:1-3

"Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy" (Leviticus 19:2)

Holiness is the state of being holy. It means purity of heart. It also means total freedom from sin. Holiness of life comes with the help of the Holy Spirit Who deals with the inward part of a man. It takes the grace of God to be holy.

God is holy, and He wants everyone that desires to walk with Him to be holy. He told Abraham "... I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect (holy)" Genesis 17:1b.

Also, in the passage today, God sent Moses to tell the children of Israel to be holy like Him. Holiness of life is a vital condition and qualification for getting to heaven and living with God eternally.

A sinner must confess his sins and ask for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus to become a child of God before he can be holy.

Prayer: O Lord, help me to be holy till the end

Christ's Death On The Cross
TEXT: John 3:14-18

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16)

Jesus Christ's death on the cross of Calvary is to redeem us back to life through His blood of atonement which reconciles us back to our Father and Creator.

No person can surrender to die for anybody, or a parent giving out his/her son or daughter for sacrifice, to save another person. Jesus Christ left His heavenly glory and humbly submitted to die for the sin He did not commit. He was flogged, mocked and wounded for our sakes.

Jesus' death has brought freedom to the human race from the bondage of sin. Every friend of Jesus must shun sin in order not to nail Jesus again to the cross.

A sinner can benefit from the death of Jesus if he confesses his sins, repents of them and asks Jesus to cleanse him with His blood.

Prayer: Help me, O Lord, to run away from sin so that Your death on the cross will not be in vain in my life

Praying Without Ceasing
TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 5:14-18

"Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Prayer is communing with God. The purpose of prayer is to pour out one's heart to his or her Creator. God expects us to pray always, for the devil is moving round, looking for who to tempt, mislead, kill, devour and send to hell fire.

Our Lord Jesus Christ instructed and taught His disciples to pray in Matthew 6:9-12. Prayer is one of the believer's weapons to succeed in life. As a true Christian, you should never get tired of praying.

When you pray, do not forget to thank and praise God. While it is good to pray to God about our needs, we should not be selfish but remember to pray for the church of God, our teachers, leaders in the church and in our country, and people in diverse places and situations. When we pray in faith, God answers our prayers.

Prayer: Lord God, help me to pray to You without fainting

Choose Wisely
TEXT: 1 Kings 3:9-13

"And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing" (1 Kings 3:10)

Life generally involves choosing between alternatives. The choice may be to go to school or to learn a trade. One can also choose between being a responsible child or a naughty child; between becoming a medical doctor or a lawyer; between going to church or going out to watch a football match. The fact remains that choosing the right alternative involves serious determination and will to please God. Making a wrong choice results in regret and shame.

A friend of Jesus should therefore take his stand and always follow the right path of choosing to please God instead of following what people say or do. Naughty children are in the majority in the world, you must not follow the multitude to do evil. Choose to do right at all times as the day of the Lord is approaching fast. Your choice determines your destiny.

Prayer: Lord, help me to always make the right choices that will bring God's blessings into my life

No Looking Back
TEXT: Luke 9:57-62

"And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God" (Luke 9:62)

Looking back is turning your attention away from where you are going. God is warning every saved boy and girl not to go back to the things they left behind.

We should not be like Demas who went back from following Christ and turned to love the things of the world which he had left behind. Lot's wife also looked back and became a pillar of salt.

Some of the things which can lead a believer to going back or backsliding include: lust of the flesh - things you desire to please yourself; lust of the eyes - things you watch, read and meditate upon; pride of life - desire to be like other children of the world; relationship with bad children, suffering lack, and persecution.

Everlasting punishment awaits the backslider and sinner who engages in evil lifestyles and is disobedient to God's word. As a child of God, watch and pray always, be focused and determine to finish your Christian race without looking back.

Prayer: God, help me to finish my journey well

Walk In Unity
TEXT: Ecclesiastes 4:8-12

"Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour" (Ecclesiastes 4:9)

A story was told of Jane and Josephine who were children of the same parents. Jane has a habit of wanting to be in charge of everything and doing things by herself without cooperating with others. One day, their parents gave both of them an assignment before going out. As soon as they left home, Jane sent her sister on an errand and decided she alone would watch over the two gates that led into their compound. Jane's action gave way to some strangers entering their premises with ease as she couldn't watch both gates at the same time. This resulted in the loss of valuable items in their compound on that fateful day.

God created the parts of the body to be united and work together for the benefit of the whole body. Friends of Jesus are to unite with other members of the body of Christ in doing God's work and evangelising the world.

We should know that unity/cooperation of believers is needed before the world can be conquered for Christ. As friends of Jesus, we also need a close relationship with God our Maker to enjoy peace and rest at the end of time.

Prayer: God, help me to lean on Jesus and be united with other friends of Jesus to do God's work

Help From Above
TEXT: Psalm 121:1-8

"My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth" (Psalm 121:2)

Help is assistance received from somebody when one is in need or in a state of helplessness. Supernatural help brings joy and gladness to the helpless; especially at a time when there is no hope of any help. God is the Best and most reliable Helper that one can run to at all times.

In our text, the psalmist looked up to God for supernatural assistance and deliverance. Looking up to God for help brings protection and peace in times of trouble. Help from above can easily be claimed by a true child of God. Linda, a seven-year-old friend of Jesus, was left alone at home by her mummy. Suddenly, she started hearing her neighbours shouting, "Fire! Fire!! Fire!!!" She jumped out of bed, confused and started praying and shouting repeatedly, "Jesus, help me!" Immediately, someone walked inside her parents' apartment before the fire got to her, and she was rescued. If you are not a true friend of Jesus, such help from above may not come to you as it did to Linda, because you are not connected to God. You therefore need to repent now and receive Jesus into your heart, then you will always receive help from above.

Prayer: O Lord, I need Your help at every point in my life

Prayer For The Nation
TEXT: Psalm 79:4-9

"Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake" (Psalm 79:9)

Praying for our nation is one of the aspects of intercessory prayer which all believers should do always. The Psalmist in our text prayed and cried unto the Lord in respect of the bad things that were happening in Jerusalem, the city of God.

The prayer for our nation is one of the important things to do because the peace, progress and prosperity of the country depends on our prayers. If any negative thing happens to a nation, the believers in the nation may not be spared from the consequences.

We are commanded to pray for our country for God to remove activities of Satan and sin from the land. We should equally pray for sinners to become saints, for they are the means through which Satan carries out all his evil activities.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be more prayerful for my country

Life Is Short
TEXT: James 4:13-17

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away" (James 4:14)

For everybody on the earth, life is short and uncertain. Every one: boy or girl, young or old, will eventually die and leave this world one day. Our stay on earth is just for a short time. The importance of knowing and understanding that life is short is to make someone not to lose focus of the reason he is created in this world.

A sinner or backslider should note that sinful lifestyle without repentance till time of death will lead to hell fire. A child of God who has given his life to Christ, should equally note that we should not delay in obeying.

Rise up and obey the Great Command to go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every creature, and be watchful till the coming of the Lord. Time is short, delay is dangerous.

Prayer: Lord, help me to spend my life wisely and serve You till the end

Use Your Time Well
TEXT: Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Time can be one's best friend or one's worst enemy, depending on how it is managed. It can bring positive or negative results, depending on how it is used.

The way you use or plan your time determines your success in life. Time flows like a river and goes along with its opportunities. Time lost or missed cannot be regained.

Sinful boys and girls who delay in giving their lives to Christ but rather continue in their sinful habits of lying, stealing, engaging in examination malpractices, boyfriend and girlfriend relationships, are wasting their lives. If death catches up with them, they will end up in hell fire and will regret all wasted opportunities to give their lives to Jesus.

Friends of Jesus who are delaying in preaching to their sinful neighbours will regret their failure to do so. Wake up today, rescue the dying souls around you and use your time well.

Prayer: Lord, help me to use my time well to Your glory

A Faithful Companion
TEXT: 1 Samuel 20:16-19

"And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul" (1 Samuel 20:17)

Many people today want true companionship in all areas of life: friendship, marriage or business. True and faithful companions are needed to help achieve our goals in life. Friendship with others is good and it is a form of companionship. A faithful friend who helps in the time of need is a friend indeed. An unfaithful friend who scorns and forsakes one in time of need, cause pain and sorrow of heart. Have you been disappointed by some so-called friends, relatives or school mates in whom you put much trust? A true companion is scarce and uncommon these days. A reliable partner who will not disappoint in the hour of need is rare since most friendships are formed on carnal and shaky ground.

However, Christ is the Rock of ages and a Friend so good, Who will never fail you. Jesus is a faithful Friend who paid the price for your sins, and is ever present to help in times of trouble. Allow Him to be your Partner in the journey of life.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be a true friend of Jesus forever

Compassed With A Shield
TEXT: Psalm 5:7-12

"For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield" (Psalm 5:12)

A shield is a weapon of defence against the enemies' attack in the war front, particularly in the olden days. The devil is behind every war in the believer's life, either physical or spiritual. However, God has promised to protect and cover His children with a shield against the enemy in every battle.

The protection against the enemies' attack is not available for sinners but for true children of God who daily live in righteousness and holiness. God surrounds them also with favour.

In the world today, many people live in fear because of insecurity everywhere. The good news is that God is taking care of you because you are special to Him.

As you move out today, trust God to be your shield and your defence. His goodness and mercy shall surely follow you today and all the days of your life in Jesus' name.

Highway To Heaven
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain" (1 Corinthians 9:24)

Determination is the major factor that is needed for anyone engaging in an athletic competition, especially one who desires to win a trophy.

The journey to the heavenly kingdom is a race which every friend of Jesus must run to win at the end. The journey starts at conversion after one has repented and forsaken all sins, and then moving forward to pray and attain holiness of life.

The beginning of the race is not the end until you reach the final destination. You must continue in holy living. Marks of true holiness are Honesty, Obedience, Love, Integrity, Newness of Life, Endurance, Service of Love and Separation from the World.

Sinners cannot get to heaven except they repent and turn away from their wicked ways. Jesus has paid the price to take away our sins, simply trust Him. Strive to get to heaven, the place of everlasting rest. You must not miss it!

Prayer: Lord, help me not to miss heaven

Highway To Heaven
TEXT: Numbers 14:6-9

"If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey" (Numbers 14:8)

Joshua and Caleb stood out by not joining the multitude in their unbelief while seeking to possess the land of Canaan which God promised them. They did not forget the promise of God to their forefathers (to give them a land flowing with milk and honey).

Joshua and Caleb saw the power of God which had been demonstrated on the Egyptians before their departure from bondage in Egypt. They chose to be different from the unbelieving multitude because they knew God can be trusted to keep His word.

God has not changed; whatever He promises His children, He gives them. Just keep trusting Him. Do not allow the doubt, fear and unbelief of those around you to affect your faith in God and His promises; be like Joshua and Caleb. Become a friend of Jesus today if you want to enjoy God's promises.

Prayer: Lord, help me to stand out among unbelievers so that I can receive all my promised blessings

TEXT: Romans 12:4-8

"So we, being many, are one body in Christ; and every one members one of another" (Romans 12:5)

The human body consists of many parts which work together to keep the whole body functioning properly. Some of these parts are the eyes, nose, tongue, legs, hands, mouth, ears and many others.

As small as some of these body parts are, their functions are recognized and appreciated. None despises the others as they are all united to achieve a common goal of wellness in the body.

It is important for members of the body of Christ (friends of Jesus) to be united with one another, and with Christ the Head of the body (The Church).

Sinners are not members of Christ's body because they obey Satan by sinning and disobeying the Head of the church - Jesus Christ. Church goers who bear Christian names but do not live righteous lives are not part of the body of Christ. They will not be part of the people Jesus will come to take to heaven.

Repent of your sins today, make Christ your Saviour and Friend and become a member of the body of Christ. Be prepared for heaven.

Prayer: God, help me to be united with the body of Christ

A Little Member
TEXT: James 3:5-10

"But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil; full of deadly poison" (James 3:8)

The tongue is a little member of the body, but very powerful and dangerous if carelessly used. The tongue is the organ of speech used for talking; also used for - praying, singing and praising God.

The tongue is also used for swallowing food, tasting and for testing whether the food is sweet, bitter, tasteless, hot or cold. It prevents us from eating harmful things.

As little as the tongue is, it has very great power. Wrong use of the tongue has brought many mighty people down and sent some to untimely death and destruction. Through the misuse of the tongue, Miriam became leprous, Pharaoh and Herod died before their time.

Whatever great thing you desire in life can be brought to pass through your tongue. As a believer, use your tongue rightly; in singing to God, praying for others and yourself, encouraging and lifting the broken hearted, and preaching the gospel to sinners. Pray and ask God for grace to always use your tongue rightly, and to be a channel of blessing.

Prayer: God, help me to have control over my tongue

The Name Of Jesus
TEXT: Philippians 2:5-11

"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow; of things in heaven; and things in earth, and things under the earth" (Philippians 2:10)

The name of Jesus is a powerful weapon in the mouth of friends of Jesus. Satan and his hosts tremble at the mention of this name. Life's obstacles give way when this name is mentioned.

Victor was a genuine friend of Jesus. He was a chorister in his local church. He was loved by his parents and everybody in the community because of his life of righteousness. One day, he went to the farm with his parents. He left the farm early on his bicycle to meet up with the choir rehearsal. On his way, the bicycle's brake failed; and, in an attempt for Victor to gain control, he swerved, and the bicycle faced the direction of a deep ditch. The passers-by shouted in fear, and Victor unconsciously shouted "Jesus!" The bicycle, whose front wheel was already close to the edge of the ditch, suddenly and miraculously stopped. Everybody around marvelled at the power that held the bicycle.

The name of Jesus carries power and is beautiful for all situations in the life of believers. Call upon Him whenever you are in trouble, and you will find help. Sinners must surrender their lives to Jesus to be able to use His name.

Prayer: Lord, help me to have Your name in my mouth at all times

Diligence Pays
TEXT: Proverbs 12:24-27

"The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute" (Proverbs 12:24)

Hard work and diligence mean the same thing. God shows example of hard work by creating the heavens and the earth and everything therein in six days; on the seventh day, He rested. God wants all His children to be dutiful and responsible in order to enjoy His blessings. Diligence is therefore essential for our spiritual, physical and overall development and success. As a pupil, you must study well, do your assignments and any other school activities like projects given to you. At home, you must be dutiful and responsible in doing the house chores given to you by your parents.

In the house of God, a friend of Jesus must work - clean the church, visit the sick and join other believers to preach the good news of Jesus to sinful children. Diligence in every aspect of one's life brings promotion, excellent achievements in academic work and other blessings. A Christian must not be lazy, but dutiful and diligent.

Prayer: God, help me to be diligent in every area of my life

Trust In God
TEXT: Proverbs 3:5-8

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5)

The word 'trust' means firm belief in the reliability and ability of someone or something. It also means believing in somebody or something without any doubt. Trust in God means putting all hope in God.

Jane was in her final year in the secondary school when her father lost his job. Her mother's business was also not going on well as it used to be. She had to withdraw because her parents could not pay her fees. However, the family remained steadfast in serving the Lord. Many people around them did not know their situation because they maintained their cheerful attitude. Jane also did not yield to temptation to be discouraged. She trusted God and continued her preparations for her examinations even when her parents had not paid the school fees. After a short while, her father was recalled to his former office and he was paid for all the months they asked him to stop work. He was able to pay the school fees, and Jane wrote the examinations and passed with good grades.

As a believer, you should put your trust in God because He is All Sufficient and He is able to do all things. In whatever situation you find yourself, trust in God and He will help you.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to trust You in all situations of life
