MONDAY AUGUST 08, 2022

IN YOUR BEST INTEREST
BIBLE TEXT: PROVERBS 9:9-12

"If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it" (Proverbs 9:12).

There is a natural law which says that, "good thoughts, deeds and actions lead to beneficial effects, while bad thoughts, deeds and actions, lead to harmful effects." It is the same thing as, "whatever you sow, you will reap."

This means that a sinner will definitely suffer for his sinful actions alone. Although the consequences of his sin may affect others, he bears the greater effects. Sin has damaging effects; it attracts troubles, afflictions and eternal death, while righteous living brings blessings.

It is sad to note that some children spend the better part of their youthful years to do unprofitable things. They neglect their studies and relationship with God. Sometimes, they realize too late that they cannot catch up with their peers.

Do not follow the path that will lead you to nowhere. Spend your childhood and youthful years to serve God, and study hard so that you can excel. Remember, it is in your interest to stop sinning and live a life that glorifies God. You will reap bountiful blessings.

PRAYER: O God, help me to fear You and walk in wisdom in all my ways.

SATISFYING THIRSTY SOULS IN A DRY LAND
TEXT: PSALM 42:1-2,4-6,8,11

• 1 (To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah.) As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
• 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
• 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.
• 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
• 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
• 8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
• 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
INTRODUCTION:
vs 1-2. Here the psalmist is saying to the Lord that as the hart pants after the water brook, so he is panting after Him. He wanted something from God, something spiritual, something physical. He desired wisdom, knowledge and understanding to rule the nation. Although he had the things of the world, the place, position and properties, yet, he desired something the world could offer.
Psalm 61:1-2. The cry of the psalmist is not a silent one, but a loud one to God. Some keep their desires in their hearts, only meditating on them, not so with the psalmist. From the ends of the earth, from any part of the world he was, he poured out his heart to the Lord, begging Him to lead him to the rock that is higher than him.
ch 63:1. Despite all the duties, the responsibilities ahead of him on a daily basis, David still took time to seek God. He was seeking God not for the physical reasons only, but for spiritual purpose.
The heart cry of the righteous:
Early in my life, profession, and ministry will I seek Thee. My heart, flesh longs after you. I want to see more of you, your power and glory.
ch 84:2-7. David desired the living God. We serve a living God, not a dead God. Though we can worship God on our own, yet, we desire to be in His presence because there are some things we get in His presence we cannot get elsewhere. Whatever we learn in the house of God we still remember when we get to our offices, and places of businesses. We praise God everywhere, as if we are still in His house.
Those who seek God, who put their requests before God grow from strength to strength.
A. THE PANTING AND THE PASSION OF A THIRSTY SOUL. Psalm 42:1-2
Here we see the expression of a soul panting after God.
How do we know a hart panting after the waters?
1. By going in the direction of the water brooks, not up a tree, or towards the desert
2. Because it is not going sluggishly but running towards the water
3. By staying and drinking the water to the full.
A thirsting soul
1. Will go towards the direction where he can find the word, will, way, grace, power and satisfaction of God
2. He goes early and promptly to the presence of God, He will not be sluggish or lethargic
3. He stays, patient, rests there, seeking the Lord, wanting more of the Lord. His heart and life is there. Whatever he has, he wants more. He wants to get to heaven when he dies.
Psalm 143:6-8. As you look at your life, and what other people seek after: money, position, wealth, landed and other properties, and other things that can make their lives comfortable, you see that they are not satisfied or fulfilled by these things. But as for you, you long for fellowship and intimacy with God because He is the only one who knows the destiny which He has planned for us. We mortals do not know the way wherein we should walk, so we lift our souls to God.
Isaiah 44:3-5. God Himself desires to pour waters of refreshing, revival and blessings upon us. (ch 55:1) All that thirst are being invited to the waters of life (vs 12) we shall have peace that passes all understanding, we shall rejoice. Amen.
ch 48:18. Our peace shall be multiplied, and our righteousness as the waves of the sea (vs 21; 41:17-20).
Matthew 5:6. The righteousness will overflow, but it takes thirsting and panting after it. Righteousness at home, in the house of God, in our places of work and business, everywhere.
John7:37-39. When we are really thirsty, we go to the Lord in prayer. And our souls and spirits will be revived. Our bodies will be healed in cases of sicknesses.
Acts 2:33
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
Revelation 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Revelation 22:17
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
B. THE PRAYER AND THE PRAISE OF A TRUSTING SOUL. Psalm 42:4-5,8
You cannot fill any container without opening the lid. If you decide to not open your mouth to pray, you will not get anything. Some people do not know that the house of God is a house of prayer. The day of the Lord is a holy day meant for worshiping and putting our requests before God. It is not a day to go to beaches on picnics or any other worldly pursuits.
Psalm 62:8. When there are challenges, when things are not going the way we want, as we pour out our hearts to God in prayer, we will not be denied.
ch 46:1-5
- 1 (To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth.) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
- 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Some people are afraid of the situation of the country, of the economy, etc. We shall not be afraid.
- 3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
- 4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
- 5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
God will not be late on our case as we seek His face in Jesus name.
2 Chronicles 20:3,12. Jehoshaphat was initially afraid, but afterwards, he sought the face of the Lord. Messages of encouragement came to him. (vs 20-24) Problems, challenges, sorrow will not take songs of praise out of our mouths. Amen. Our enemies will help to destroy themselves and none of them shall escape. Amen.
Psalm 40:3-5
- 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
What God will do in our lives, and in the lives of our family members, many shall hear them and trust in the Lord.
- 4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
- 5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
The goodness, wonderful works of God in us will not be countable. Amen. Isaiah 50:10
Romans 4:18-21. Abraham believed God. He hoped against hope. He was fully persuaded that what God has promised, He was able to perform. He eventually had the promise.
Acts 16:25-26. When we praise the Lord in adversity, SUDDENLY, our problems vanished away, the joy came, our burdens rolled away, our bodies are healed, the oppression vanishes away, the demonic powers are broken, the long awaited jobs come, SUDDENLY! Thank God, today is the day. Amen!
C. THE PRIORITY AND THE PURSUIT OF A TRANSFORMED SOUL. Psalm 42:6,11;
My brother and sister, hope in God! Those problems you see today, you will see them no more!
Psalms 42:11. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Matthew 6:31-33. Seek first the kingdom of God, and all other things shall be added unto you. Let seeking God be your priority.
Romans 8:32. God who did not spare His Son Jesus Christ, but gave Him to us will also freely give us all things.
3 John 2
- Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
- You will prosper in everything you do. Your health will come back to the optimum in Jesus name. Your soul will prosper in Jesus. As you seek the Lord, you will find Him. Your soul should not be cast down or weary. You should not be tired, and think there is no hope. Nothing is over, you are starting afresh. New strength, power, courage, blessing, healing in your body, strength in your soul, power in your spirit, prosperity in your job, and the work of God will prosper in your hands in Jesus name. Amen.
Prayer:
- Pray for grace to seek God more, and that, as you seek God, you will see Him.
- Pray that your strength will be renewed on a daily basis
- Pray that God will bless and renew the spiritual and physical energy of our father in the Lord.

ATTAINABLE GOALS
BIBLE TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 9:24-27

"If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it" (Proverbs 9:12).

Key Verse: "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain" (1 Corinthians 9:24).
'Attainable' simply means something achievable or within your reach.

Michael and Martins are in the same class of 60 students. Michael's position is within the last 10 in the class while Martins is among the first 3 in the class. Both of them attended an academic seminar where they were encouraged and motivated to set high targets of academic success for themselves.
Michael decided that his goal was to take the 1st position while Martins also made up his mind that he was going to lead the class. Martins and Michael have set attainable goals for themselves.

It is not wise to use the yardstick of others to measure yourself. Do not set goals that you know you cannot achieve. There are goals that are suitable for your age, academic level and capacity.

Your goals should cover different areas of your academic work, house chores and spiritual development. You must have specific activities that you will do each day of the week that will make you to grow steadily towards having good success.

My attainable goal is:

PRAYER: Lord, give me wisdom to think right and set attainable goals.

TIME-BOUND GOALS
BIBLE TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 3:1-8

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Time is life! This is true because every second that ticks on the clock contributes to the minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years of our lives. This reality makes us plan our lives, knowing that a second wasted in idleness can never come back again.

In setting our goals, we must allot time to each of our goals either in weeks, months or years as the case may be. Leaving our goals open-ended without a time frame to achieve it, will mean that we just engage in an idle dream that leads one to nowhere. There is time for everything as our Bible passage declares, and so no part of our time should be left idle, if we must achieve our goals.

For your goals to be time-bound, you must have a 24 hours workable daily timetable. We have 24 hours in a day, and each of this hour should have specific, measurable, attainable and relevant goals attached to them. Use the table below to make your own time-based goals for a day.

TIME GOAL
9:30pm-5:30am _
5:30am-6:00am _
6:00am-6:30am _
6:30am-7:30am _
7:30am-7:40am _
7:40am-4:00pm _
4:00pm-6:00pm _
6:00pm-8:30pm _
8:30pm-9:30pm _

Goals are all about actions; ensure you act on your goals daily to have the desired result.

PRAYER: Dear Father, grant me the grace to use my time wisely, while here on earth.

THE GREAT HIGH PRIEST
BIBLE TEXT: HEBREWS 4:14-16

"Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession" (Hebrews 4:14).

The word "Priest" has different meanings. First, it means one who mediates (stands on behalf) of others before God. It also means one who is holy and set apart to perform divine functions. The first place we find the word used in the Bible is in Genesis 18, with reference to Melchizedek, King of Salem and priest of the Most High.

During the time of Moses, God instructed him to choose Aaron and the family of Levi, and consecrate them as priests. The priests were responsible for making intercession to God for the people by offering the many sacrifices that the law required.

Among the priests, one was selected as the high priest who always entered into the Most Holy place once a year on the Day of Atonement to make sacrifices for the people. By these daily and yearly sacrifices, the sins of the people were temporarily covered until the Messiah came to die for us.

Jesus is our great High Priest because like Melchizedek, He is ordained as a Priest forever. Unlike the Levitical priests who had to continually offer sacrifices, Jesus only had to offer His sacrifice once, gaining eternal redemption for all who will come to God through Him.
Jesus is greater than any other priest. This knowledge should give us the boldness to come unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

PRAYER: My great High Priest, let me find grace and help from You in time of need.

COVENANT PROMISE
BIBLE TEXT: ROMANS 10:8-11

"For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed" (Romans 10:11).

"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;"
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

"For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."

DO NOT FOLLOW BAD EXAMPLE
BIBLE TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:1-6

"Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted" (1 Corinthians 10:6).

The children of Israel were God's special people chosen to serve Him in truth and spirit. Having delivered them from slavery in Egypt, He provided for them all that they needed to keep them fit and safe all through their journey to the promised land.

What God did for Israel was a unique provision that they never dreamt of. He fed them with real and actual food directly supplied from heaven daily for forty years. This food was known as Manna.

He also supplied them spiritual water from the rock. This great Rock symbolise Jesus Christ. They were miraculously protected throughout their journey with a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. These provisions were taken away only when they set their feet on the promised land.

With all these great and wonderful provisions, Israel did not show gratitude by obeying God. They manifested unbelief and rebelled against God. This account of God's dealing with Israel was recorded for us to learn important lessons.

We should understand that a child that was once saved can become a castaway if he follows their example of unbelief. If you desire God's continuous blessings, you must surrender your life to Jesus and commit your life to serve Him in holiness and righteousness. Learn from the example of Israel and run away from sin.

PRAYER: Father, help me to believe Your word and act on it for my benefit.

BEFORE EVIL HAPPENS
BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 18:17-23

"And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?" (Genesis 18:17).

Christy is a friend of Jesus who loves to pray. One day, she saw a fearful thing in her dream. She saw a pregnant woman who was a member of her church. In the dream, Christy saw that the woman was no more with her pregnancy. She inquired from her whether she had put to bed, the woman made a sign with her hands indicating that the baby was no more.

Christy woke up from the dream and became terrified. She quickly took her bath and ran to the church because it was a Sunday. As soon as she got to the church, she went to search for the woman. To her surprise, she saw the woman still carrying her pregnancy. She became relieved but still afraid of what she saw in her dream.

Immediately after the worship service, Christy called her prayer partners and related the dream to them. They agreed and waited behind to spend time to pray. Meanwhile, they did not disclose the matter to the woman or any other person. After praying for some time, they believed God had answered and left for their various homes.

Alas, by evening time of that Sunday, the news came that the woman had safely delivered a bouncing baby. Christy was very happy that God revealed the plan of the enemy. This was what saved the woman and her baby.

God sometimes reveals things to His faithful children before they happen. This is to give us an opportunity to pray so that negative things will be changed to positive. Do not be careless, be faithful like Abraham and pray. God will always answer our prayers.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be sober and prayerful.

WHO IS JESUS TO YOU?
BIBLE TEXT: ISAIAH 9:6, 7

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace?" (Isaiah 9:6).

Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed One. He is God's gift to all humanity. He has many names and titles by which He is known to reveal His power, majesty, dominion and holy nature. He is the Saviour of the world. He gave His life to pay the price for our sins which separated us from God thereby becoming our Substitute and Redeemer. He is also a Friend of sinners.

He is Wonderful - He does wonders in every life. He performs miracles; making a very bad person to become a saint, bringing joy to sorrowful hearts. Counsellor - He counsels in wisdom to make one wiser than his teachers. Mighty God - Mighty in power to lift you up from a fallen state to a higher ground, strengthens you in your weakness to overcome temptations and all powers of darkness.

The Everlasting Father - He cares for you and nourishes your soul, body and spirit. He preserves your life to live with Him in heaven forever. Prince of Peace - He is our peace. He speaks peace to every negative situation in our lives. He gives eternal life, joy and hope. He cleanses with His atoning blood to make one pure and holy to inherit heaven.

Sincerely accept who He is and what He has done on the cross of Calvary for you. Confess and repent of all your bad ways. Ask for forgiveness and cleansing of your heart in His blood. Invite Him into your heart to be your Saviour, Lord and King.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I confess You to be my Saviour. Make me to live like You all the days of my life.

LOVE OF THE FATHER
BIBLE TEXT: 1 JOHN 3:1-3

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not?" (1 John 3:1).

God is our heavenly Father. He is our Father, firstly because He is the One who created us. Secondly, He gave us His only begotten Son to die and save us from sin. All who believe in Jesus Christ and accept Him as personal Saviour, God gives power to them to become children of God.

The love of our heavenly Father is deep and wide, so great and mighty. It cannot be compared with any other love that we know. It is an everlasting love. It is the love that made God to give us His only Son to die for our sins.

By the token of this great love, we are made to become members of the family of God, joint heirs with Jesus Christ the Son of God. Which means that we have the right of inheritance to the riches and blessings of the kingdom as Jesus the Son of God.

The love of the Father is such a wonderful and uncommon love. It does not only make us to become children of God, but also promotes us to be in heavenly places with Jesus, be like Him and live forever with Him.

To keep yourself in the love of the Father and continue to enjoy the provisions of His love, you must always obey His commandments and live like Jesus in holiness and righteousness all the days of your life.

PRAYER: Father, make me to be an obedient child and be holy like Jesus, so I can fully enjoy Your love.

HE KNOWS YOUR WORKS
BIBLE TEXT: REVELATION 3:13-15

"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot" (Revelation 3:15).

Our works show what we think, say and do within a given time. Every child is busy, even in his or her idle moments, doing something. Sometimes, we try to hide our thoughts and actions from others. This is because we feel they will not be happy with us if they know some of our conducts.

At another time we try to impress others by pretending to be good though we are bad and ungodly. But there is someone who knows our works and the true motive behind all our activities, He is God.

Jesus is God, He created heaven and earth. The thickest darkness cannot hide anything from Him. He knows all that we do, our wrong and good works are all known to Him.

Jesus spoke to warn the members of the church at Laodicea. They were not loving Jesus sincerely again. They did not see anything wrong with their actions. They did not know Jesus knew the condition of their hearts and actions.

Jesus knows all your actions. Do you still love and obey Him like you did before? You can repent today and show love to Him through your obedience to His word.

PRAYER: Lord, I repent and pledge my love to You.

BE THOU MY HELPER
BIBLE TEXT: PSALM 30:10-12

"Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper" (Psalm 30:10).

The three-storey building where Jenny lives with her parents, suddenly collapsed and trapped her under a large concrete wall. Quickly, all around her was darkness. She began to pray, "God, help me! God, help me!! God, send help to me!!!"

For two days she remained in thick darkness wondering what will become of her; yet, she kept praying. As she was praying and crying, "Lord help me, do not forget me here," she began to hear some rocking sound coming slowly towards her. Suddenly the slab that covered her was lifted up and all around her was light. Help had finally arrived.

There is a song we love to sing:

"My Helper O, my Helper,
My Helper O, my Helper;
There is something that makes me
Come into your presence, my Helper."

Even nations seek various forms of help from one another. Also, humans, the rich and the poor, the strong and the weak, adults and children, need help in one way or the other. But real help comes from God who alone knows our needs.

The Psalmist was surrounded by enemies. The help of man would have failed him. In his trouble, he cried to the Lord and He delivered him.

You need help in all areas of your life. If you, in sincere prayers, call on the Lord, He will answer and send help to you, and you will glorify His Name

PRAYER: Lord, all my needs are known to You. Please do not delay to help me.

MY PORTION FOREVER
BIBLE TEXT: JEREMIAH 10:10-16

"The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name" (Jeremiah 10:16).

There are many things calling for our attention. The world we are living in is full of attractions and distractions, competing to make us drift away from our Creator, our only portion in this life and forever.

God has blessed us with many resources to make us enjoy our life, but God wants us to honour Him and put Him above everything in the world. There is nothing wrong in doing all we can, using God's given resources, to be great.

We can go to school to become great in life and we can be prosperous in our chosen careers and other pursuits. As a matter of fact, the desire of God for us is to excel and be prosperous in life.

However, what we are or have should not take the place of God in our lives. We are to serve God with our treasures and talents.

As a Christian, you are not like other people because you are purchased and owned by the Almighty God. He created you and also redeemed your life through the shedding of the precious blood of His Son, Jesus. Therefore, you must live your life to the glory of God.

PRAYER: O God, help me to choose You above every other thing in life.

CAN GOD TRUST YOU?
BIBLE TEXT: NUMBERS 12:3-8

"My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house" (Numbers 12:7).

We are living in a wicked world where people do not have regard for valuable characteristics like faithfulness. However, people love to associate with individuals that possess this important attribute. Everywhere in the world, faithful friends, partners and workers are desired but unfortunately, most people who desire faithfulness find it difficult to be faithful themselves. The Almighty God too loves to see faithfulness in us. God testified that Moses was a faithful man in the passage we read. To be faithful, therefore, is to be trustworthy, reliable, dependable, honest, truthful and loyal.

Christians are expected to be faithful in the midst of dubious and wicked people in the world. Although faithful living is not appreciated in our society, but as Christians, we should be different because we are the light and salt of the world.

You may be hated for being truthful and honest, some people may not even appreciate you. Do not be discouraged because God recognizes and rewards faithfulness. He will also defend and help His faithful children to overcome difficulties in life, but you must be faithful.

Can God count on you to be faithful and trustworthy even in the corrupt society today? Be truthful, honest and faithful in all things!

PRAYER: Lord, help me to live a holy and faithful life all the days of my life.

THE POOR WIDOW'S CHEERFUL GIVING
BIBLE TEXT: MARK 12:41-44

"And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing" (Mark 12:42).

God first shows boys and girls the example of giving when in love, He gave Jesus to the whole world to be our Saviour. Not only that, He also freely gave us all other things to enjoy.

Jesus, as well, gave His life on the cross of Calvary to save us from our sins, and He gives eternal life. To show your gratitude in appreciation of what He has done for you, He wants you to be a giver, and a cheerful giver in particular. He does not want you to be stingy or selfish.

All you have is given to you by God. Out of that little you have, give; don't say that it is too small. Learn from the poor widow in the Bible passage. She gave all she had to God cheerfully, not thinking about what she would next eat, but trusted God, the Great Provider.

There is great reward in giving. Jesus said, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over..." That is, much more will be given to you in return.

Your giving must be done cheerfully so as to make it acceptable to God. Remember that the first gift to give to God is your heart. Surrender your life to Jesus, and He will accept you.

PRAYER: Lord, I surrender all unto You.

MORE ABOUT GIVING
BIBLE TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 9:5-11

"But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully" (2 Corinthians 9:6).

A little boy gave his lunch to Jesus; Jesus blessed it and fed thousands of people. He was blessed and his good giving is known from generation to generation. A student used his talent to work for God though his examinations were near, God rewarded him by making him to excel in all he did because he studied hard at the same time.

For your giving to be accepted and pleasing to God, you must give with all your heart; and give cheerfully, not grudgingly and unwillingly. In giving, you first give your heart to Jesus to wash it clean from all sinful actions with His blood.

You give your talents, using your skills in drawing and painting to beautify the house of God, your voice to sing praises to God and inspire others to love Jesus, and also to intercede for others.

Your intellect to teach and develop others in their academic work. Your feet to go on evangelism and visitation. Your money in paying tithes, for mission and church project and helping those who are in need.

Obedience to cheerful giving brings abundant blessings. An adage says, "Givers never lack." There is also a prophetic saying thus: "No lack, no loss, no limitation." There will be no lack in your life. Therefore, start giving cheerfully from now on.

PRAYER: Lord, give me grace to give cheerfully to always enjoy Your abundant blessings in my life.

DO NOT LOVE THE THINGS OF THIS WORLD
BIBLE TEXT: 1 JOHN 2:15-18

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him" (1 John 2:15).

It is God's strong desire and wish that His children will not mix up with the children of the world or follow the way they do things. After saving the children of Israel and bringing them out of slavery in Egypt, God warned them many times and said, "Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them..." 'Them' was referring to the people of other nations around them who do not know God.

God also commands His children in the New Testament to avoid the ways of the world. To remain with Jesus and be a true child of God, you must obey God's command. "Love not the world neither the things that are in the world." This is a clear command to all true children of God. Anyone who has love for the world and the things of the world does not have the love of God in him or her.

Satan is the one controlling the people of the world and the things they do. Therefore, many things of the world are against the word and will of God. The things of the world you must avoid are these: movies, films, celebrations, ceremonies and parties, festivals, music, dancing, jokes, fashion and funfair, language and slangs among many others. These are the last days, make up your mind to be on the righteous side with God.

PRAYER: Lord, grant me grace to love You with my whole heart and not love the things of this world.

MY GREAT REWARDER
BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 15:1-4

"After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward" (Genesis 15:1).

A reward is what you work for, but a gift is what is presented to you which you can accept or reject. Rewards can be good or bad. It depends on whether your deed is good or evil. Good deeds bring good rewards and evil deeds bring evil rewards.

God did not only promise to reward Abraham, but also promised to be His shield. A shield is something or someone that protects or defends. This means God offered to protect Abraham from every harm and evil.

Abraham lived among very wicked people. God knew that without His protection, Abraham would not have peace and rest to be able to enjoy the rewards of his obedience and faithfulness to Him.

If we serve the Lord faithfully, enduring all shame and reproach for His sake, He will preserve us from evil and reward us with His favour and mercy. Temporary and eternal rewards await you if you love the Lord and do His will in every place you go.

There is a reward for enduring temptation, there is a reward for serving the Lord faithfully, a reward for running the race to heaven, a reward for righteous living, a reward for giving to the Lord and others, and a reward for winning souls for Jesus.

PRAYER: Father, help me to serve You faithfully so that I will enjoy bountiful rewards from You.

GOD-FEARING COMPANIONS
BIBLE TEXT: PSALM 119:63-66

"I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts" (Psalm 119:63).

Daniel had three friends. One day, they were captured and taken to a strange land when they were still young. No one in the land they were taken to loved and served the living God, not even the king. Daniel and his friends were asked to eat food sacrificed to idols and worship the strange gods of the land, but they refused. Daniel and his friends were children who were prayerful and always doing those things that glorified the Lord. Daniel chose God-fearing companions and they were great encouragement to one another. Godly companions will leave godly examples for you to follow.

The Bible dictionary defines a companion as one who keeps company with another; one with whom a person frequently associates and converses. It differs from an ordinary friend. The word does not necessarily imply friendship, but a companion is often or generally a close friend. God created us with a desire to make friends with others. But it is very dangerous to have friends who do not fear God. The Psalmist in our Bible passage and Daniel in our story, give us very good examples.

Evil friends will corrupt your good behaviour and lead you into trouble. Make up your mind today to keep godly friends and separate from bad ones.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to befriend people who will encourage me to love and serve You always.

WHAT GOD IS ABOUT TO DO
BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 41:28-33

"This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh" (Genesis 41:28).

Nothing is hidden from the Almighty God. He knows everything and sees the future and shows us the right path to take. He reveals things to come.

In our Bible passage, King Pharaoh had a dream, he did not know the meaning and nobody was able to explain it to him. This troubled his mind a great deal. But Joseph was able to interpret the dream through the special gift God gave him.

In the dream, God told Pharaoh what would happen in the future. Knowing the meaning of the dream was not enough, so God gave Joseph the wisdom to advise King Pharaoh on what to do to prepare ahead for the things that was about to happen.

One of the reasons that God has given us the Bible is to help us to understand His word, know Him better and enlighten us about the future. The knowledge and study of the Bible has helped a lot of people to overcome the fear of the future. They are also able to understand the meaning of things happening in present times. Moreover, so many have found forgiveness of sin and new life through Jesus Christ.

Each time you read a passage of the Bible, believe that God is personally speaking to you. The Bible has revealed that Jesus will soon come to take His people with Him to heaven. You need to diligently follow all the instructions of the Bible. As you obey His word, you will be guided on the right path and you will not go astray. You will also be prepared to go with Him to heaven.

PRAYER: Dear Father, You are the all-knowing God. Please lead me in the right path.

CAUTION THAT TONGUE - 1
BIBLE TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:23-25

"And he went up from thence unto Bethel: And as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head" (2 Kings 2:23).

Caution means warning to avoid danger or to be careful that your words will not land you into trouble. "Caution that tongue" is a command which if obeyed, will bring untold blessings into your life. At the same time, it means to bridle or control your tongue and language on how you use it either in a wise or bad way.

In our Bible passage, there is the example of some little children who used their tongues to mock Elisha, the prophet and man of God. A curse came upon them, and 42 of them were killed by two bears. They died prematurely and are now suffering in hell. There is a lot to learn from these people who had life in their tongues to bring blessings upon themselves and others. Ruth - she changed her destiny to a better and more glorious one when she told Naomi, "...Thy God shalt be my God."

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the face of death courageously declared with their tongues to serve the true and living God instead of idols. Jesus appeared to them and became their companion. They did not die. The fire was friendly to them - like a cooling system.

Tomorrow, we shall examine more examples of people who used their tongues wisely. How do you use your tongue? Surrender it to Jesus now so that He can wash and sanctify it. Pray for grace to use your tongue as an instrument of blessing.

PRAYER: Lord, sanctify my tongue and make it an instrument of blessing.

CAUTION THAT TONGUE - 2
BIBLE TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:23-25

"And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head" (2 Kings 2:23).

Yesterday, we learnt about the negative and positive effects of the use of the tongue. Today, we shall continue with the examples of people who used their tongues to attract blessings to themselves and others.

- The Shunammite woman confessed that it is well with her dead son, and she received him back from the dead.

- Children in the temple used their tongues to praise Jesus, crying, "Hosanna to the Son of David," (Matthew 21:15).

Rhoda used her tongue in interceding with adult believers for the release of Peter from prison. God answered their prayers. The determination to use your tongue wisely will have to come from a purged and cleansed heart. Satan controls the tongue that has destruction and death in it. *Jesus is the Giver of life. So, you must surrender that tongue to Him to cleanse and purify it by His blood.

As a child of God, Jesus lives in your heart, and the words that will be coming out from your mouth will be of peace, love, gracious and edifying, bringing glory to God and abundant blessings to your life and others. Use your tongue wisely for a better life here and in eternity. "A wholesome tongue is a tree of life" (Proverbs 15:4).

PRAYER: O Lord, let the words of my mouth be with grace to glorify You and bring blessings unto other people.

THE WORK THAT MUST BE DONE NOW
BIBLE TEXT: JOHN 9:1-7

"I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work" (John 9:4).

"Tick says the clock, tick, tick,
What you have to do, do quick."

This is a common rhyme with a message that we use to sing in the nursery school. The message of this rhyme is that time waits for no one. So, there is no need to delay what we have to do now till another time.

This was the attitude Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Master, showed in the healing of the man that was blind from his birth. Without delay, He performed the miracle. Jesus demonstrated in words and deed to His friends the urgency of doing the work of saving sinners and healing those who are sick. He said to us, "As long as I am in this world, I am the light of the world."

As a friend of Jesus, this must also be your desire and action as you daily go everywhere without delay; shining the light of the gospel in this dark and evil world of sin, be earnest to do the work. As you go out today like the Master, seek and preach to save the sinners around you. Many out there are blind and helpless and under the affliction of Satan, desperately in need of Jesus that can save them.

PRAYER: Lord! Help me to be earnest in doing Your work, shining Your light and preaching Your love to sinners.

YOU ARE LOOSED
BIBLE TEXT: JOHN 11:38-45

"And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go" (John 11:44).

Have you seen or heard of someone who died? Death is a very sad experience that humans pass through. This is because death brings feelings of loss, sorrow and hopelessness.

Mary and Martha's only brother was dead. They had buried him and were still crying because nobody was there to help them. Mary, Martha and those who came to mourn with them could only lament and cry; they could not do anything to bring Lazarus back to life.

But what joy and relief did they feel when the only One who has the power over death came around! Jesus simply instructed that the stone be taken away and commanded the dead to come back to life. There is victory over death only through Jesus.

But, do you know that the power of sin is stronger than death? It was even sin that gave birth to death. Everyone needs to be loosened from the power of sin. The Bible says you are dead, if you live in sinful pleasure. A child who rejects Jesus and continues in his bad ways, though alive physically, is not in a better condition than the one who is dead. It is this same Jesus who has the power to raise the dead that saves from sin. Confess your sins to Him, turn away from them and accept Him as your Saviour and He will give you a new life.

PRAYER: Lord, save me from the power of sin and give me a new life.
