France & Europe: Experience Through The Eyes Of A Nigerian (Photojournal) by Frenchblood: 3:26pm On Jan 08, 2019 |
Hi guys, welcome to my thread. I’ve always wanted to start a journal/diary of some sort since I arrived in France, but I’ve been hooked down with school, settling down and all that, but I think its time to give back! Well everything started with Travelgetter, a travel agency or company that helped work out my travel smoothly. The best travel agency, no jokes ! This is not even an advert, but man ! I see they now have a thread in Travel Ads section. See their offers here: https://www.nairaland.com/7310418/study-europe-made-easy-france I’m a Nigerian Living in France, currently studying in Grenoble. I’ll be sharing few experiences, random journal, ideas, infos and most importantly Photo-chronicles. I’m Frenchblood, not good at writing; this is my first attempt, so I apologize in advance for any future mistakes and errors. I have a crazy crush on documentary photography and I love exploring new cities and meeting people so I’ll also be sharing pictures and stories as iot comes. Lastly, Questions (and answers) are allowed, but I would'nt like to answer basic questions that google can easily solve; like 'how much was the total cost of your trip' ! I AIM TO BE AN EYE OPENER, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, SO LETS SEE THINGS TOGETHER youtu.be/MKqAwVfctM4 7 Likes |

I have been an anonymous reader of the travel thread here on Nairaland. (I have decided to be anonymous as much as possible for obvious reasons) Thank you all for your time. ----------------------------------------------------- After all the endurances, the time to get to 'fly away' got nearer, coupled with the 'Buhari-conomy' Nigeria which gingered the whole matter, the country has never been interesting, hence, everyone is finding away to at least breath from another side. Time ticked, Passport was obtained, sitted for the required exam according to what I was applying for (My exam was a French Proficiency Test equivalent to say IELTS or TOEFL as English version), Made up documents, thanks to Travelgetter (search them online on Instagram) they fixed everything from Admission to motivational letter to Schengen Visa… I never wanted to trust Travelgetter after hearing so many bad news about Nigeria’s unreliable agents up and down.. but Lo! I got Approved hassle free to study; to deal with Languages. But then Visa processing was kind of smooth, even when I cant posess a common 7-digit account balance, maybe not even upto half .. searched for a Guarantor from within and backed up my application. In reality, I had abundance help from someone I'll forever be grateful to (you dont want to hear about this, else you'll get touched and cry). Another stubborn part was getting an accommodation, but still thanks to Travelgetter. Lol I keep thanking Travelgetter cos they got me travel. Their thread on Nairaland: https://www.nairaland.com/7310418/study-europe-made-easy-france Fastforward to September 2018, Got My Fine Schenghen Visa smiling to me like 'so you have me now, what next?' After moments of Panics, Headaches, Hopes and Expectations, it came out in about 35 - 40 working day (kinda abnormal but still normal) Though I 'PUSH'ed (Prayed Until Something Happened) cos it was just few days to resumption. What am I even saying, School had resumed already !!!!! Its a virgin fresh passport waiting for the die-hard-to-get Schenghen Visa, Longstay + of course work permit. Funny enough the visa fee was 90 euros ( VFS Global ). This is funny because some 'undescribable' people will still waste some hard earned millions on some motherf**king agents, mehn Nigerians have suffered ! Flew Emirates,took-off evening, greeted Dubai Airport for 9 good hours ... person go just tire! Landed Lyon 7:45, Nextday I'll narrate the Flight experience (It was my first time flying) in the next entry, this is my Introduction. Merçi ! Pic: Dubai Airport DXB 22 Likes 2 Shares

Insider! ............. Baggage packed (exceeded the rubbish 23kg), mind over prepared, family and frinds over joyed, Awwwwwnnn I'm traveling Flashback: At VFS Global (they didn't call me like normal for passport pickup to know your fate, I went just like that), me that I have sent numerous emails like stones and arrows and still no reply, meanwhile time was going. Something just said send the French Embassy A messsage for the umpteenth time again, and in few hours I read " Dear bla bla bla, Kindly note that your passport is in transit and will get to VFS this evening " looool May be my French feared them . That Night I couldnt even sleep, I started calculating Countries (I swear) like, Italy + Netherlands - Madrid = Monaco (Schenghen will just spoil you) God bless the brain that thought of Schenghen. Its actually the best thing that has ever happened to Mankind after say Jesus and Mohammed. BACK TO STORY LINE: After reading so many articles on airline reviews and shits because I read tirelessly on things, I became confused on which airline to settle for as time no dey again and ticket pricees be flying up like jet. I ended up buying my ticket the very day I was travelling, I mean just 9 hours before take off! Shit, dont be like me, I beg you! Damn risk! I was escorted to the airport like normal, my mind had travelled far already I was just bonning to every faces. Check-in time came (the normal 2hours before zoum zoum), Passed my bags and stuffs as line moved. 'hello, you have to wrap this your 'Ghana Must Go bag' with tape, and its just 1k'. In my mind 1k that your Daddy gave me abi ..... Sorry I dont have naira - voiced back oohh but you have to do because the airline won't bla bla bla ... She continued. Me that my mind is gone (My brother hard to settle the girl and she wrapped the stuffs neat and shinning) NOTE: They didn't even check for contrabands, just payed 1k and its wrapped. What If I have 'White' in my Bag ?? SMH Those guys issuing boarding passes were just asking questions as best described as 'mumu question' like - Hello, where is your final destination, handle me your passport, I'll have to scan it. But wait, those immigration officers are the mumuest. They literarily turned begging to daily songs and anthem. I can't even remember those parts, I wasn't even at the Airport spiritualy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Boarding gates passed and shishi I no give any body We were finally passed in and as a sharp Nigerian brain, I located my seat in 30 seconds (even though I was a first-timer) one girl forming posh just be running up and down, in my mind i'm like madam don't go and mistake and enter bussiness class o . About 1 hour on-board and food came (see pictures, I don't want to write too much on food else tommorrow will meet us here) Flight was so great, food was sumptous ( with the food, I started changing tongue gradually) The ICE Entertainment of Emirates Airline is second to non. Like movies non-stop, music, live Tv on board, see the plane views, watch documentaries and stuffs but no browsing, wifi is value added service with extra payment. Fisrt flight LOS Lagos - DXB Dubai (was about 6 hours and was fully boarded) Stop over DXB Dubai for 9 correct hours where I roamed the airport like a mad person upandan till I made sure I got lost, met a Nigerian girl on-board with big carry-on luggage, helped her to settle for her connecting flight to New York (that's sample of Patriotism, not all about singing useless national athem) Second connecting flight DXB Dubai - LYS Lyon (was just me and 29 other people I slept like shit.... 7 freaking hrs flight) During the flight I was just testing all buttons and stuffs. Enjoyed unlimited views from the window, Saw Milan, Istanbul, Swiss Alpes from some 35,000 feets about. We tore through Clouds ! 21 Likes 1 Share

Nice write up... Don’t ever think about that white powder. You will be caught! How did you know that the multimedia/entertainment was second to none as a first time traveler? How did you see from 35,000 ft? If clearly, let us know the equipment... Did you get the Nigerian lady’s contact as a bad sharp guy? Enjoy your stay 6 Likes |

Kayavail: I wasn't searched at all, not even my shoes were checked. My Bag was Wrapped and entered the cargo just like that. I have read and known Emirates airline's on board entertainment is the best and when I witessed it, I confirmed. Come and see enjoyment gallore (I shouldn't have concluded since I have never flown anyother airline) but if it were to be you, you would have concored. One can't see clearly. Just that the houses will be in blocks and tiny layouts Forget about the lady 7 Likes
