A Senior Investigation Officer of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. James Apala told the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday that the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria submitted two assets declaration forms on December 14, 2016.

He said one of the forms had two Union Bank accounts of the suspended CJN while the other had seven bank accounts with two kept with Union Bank and five others with Standard Chartered Bank.

Apala was testifying as the first prosecution witness in the trial of the suspended CJN on the charges of false and non-declaration of charges preferred against the embattled top judicial officer.

The witness, led by the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Aliyu Umar, said the first form earlier admitted as Exhibit 2, covered the period June 8, 2005 when Onnoghen was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court till November 22, 2014.

He said the second form as Exhibit 3 was declared after the defendant assumed office as CJN.

Fielding questions from the prosecuting counsel, Apala said the two forms were received by an official of the bureau, Awal Yakassai, on December 14, 2016.

He confirmed that the two forms had acknowledgement slips bearing the same date.

Civil Servants are expected to file Asset Declaration forms annually.

So the case of having more than one asset declaration form at the CCB is not an issue.

The issue here is the prosecution attempting to make a case with an obvious forgery which they are using against Onnogeh by claiming it was dated and submitted the same day.

This is where all the hullabaloo lies.

The Presidency has sent another fake asset declaration form to use as an excuse to try Onnogeh.

Now, they expect Onnogeh to determine for them which of the Asset declaration form is real.

hypocrisy everywhere. I learnt the accounts of the new CJN are fat as well. They just wanted to take onnoghen out of the way because they knew he wont take sides with them on electoral and other matters. This man had acted severely against the federal government's heinous ways of prodecuting the innocent in Nigeria since he took office , which the APC as a party was not happy about. Onnoghen try sef. They should ask the likes of fashola to declare all his assets, 10 years jail term would be too small for him . This is the a singular offence all of them are guilty of. So, onnoghen actually declared those assets but in 2 different forms? I give kudos to him cos he's done well. I wish buratai could also be questioned for not declaring his multimillion dollar Dubai home. Smh
