THE operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have rejected a N2 million bribe from some smugglers in Katsina State.

The smugglers had wanted to bribe officers who seized their goods worth over N6million at Malumfashi junction of the state

Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, the Head of the Comptroller-General’s Monitoring and Quick intervention Squad, Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Hassan Shallagwa, said his men met stiff resistance from the smugglers who blocked the road and insisted in offering gratification to be left off the hook.

The Deputy Public Relations of the NSC, Mr. Joseph Attah, stated this on Monday in Abuja.

Attah said sensing danger, the officers pretended to be willing and played along. But when the owners left to bring the money, the officers quickly called for reinforcement to impound the goods.

Items seized include trailer containing textile materials hidden under fire woods, a tanker carrying textiles materials and 25 second hand Vehicles
