I agree with you, partly though, the reason for this is simply cuz we all depend on oil money. Don't say government can't do a thing, they can, simply restructure the system, all states should produce on their own and watch our economy boom. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Your solutions are vague. Why are you so bothered about name? If you want some people to let go of their land and identity, then you have to overhaul the whole process. |

I beg to disagree Sir!! Nigeria doesn’t need to break up in order to make progress. Yes Nigeria as presently constituted is poor but the blame lies squarely on the FG, regardless of who is heading it be it PMB,GEJ or OBj. We have the population, we have the enough mineral resources, the FG government needs to first restructure the fiscal setup of Nigeria whereby, money is pooled into a central account and divided/shared to the states at the end of the month. It won’t work, it’s not working. Let each state be in charge of their infrastructure and also their mineral resources, allow private sector to run these things under government supervision and policy regulation. Enable industrial clusters, reduce or even grant tax heavens for industrialists just like what happened with telecoms. Centralizing everything will not work. Until they tinker with the constitution let every state run like a business, we can’t make any progress. 5 Likes |

True bro why have 3-4-5 international airport in one region when the money can be used to build a world class airport and connect the others with a speed train 4 Likes 1 Share |

That why countries like Kenya try to rub shoulders with Nigeria because they have only 6 cities or so and focused on building one or two which are Nairobi and mombasa now imagine if the money fg weasted on other cities with little to show was used to develop those 9 cities the op mentioned it would have been something to write home about 4 Likes 1 Share |

blujoi:You said a lot, I like to add that we should have a system that also allows for independent candidacy because even if we go autonomous state ruling today the politicians have already been exposed to money politics for themselves. A president or governor has to basically be controlled by his party in appointment and governance |
Re: - by blujoi(m): 10:33pm On Aug 09, 2019 |
Yes I support independent candidate. But the underlying problem with our electoral system is the money politics. We need to make elected positions unappealing, the system we have now, you need a lot of money to campaign and canvas for votes, that’s where the godfatherism factor comes in. Secondly due to our tribal sentiments I will suggest we tinker with the presidential system, where by there will be a council of presidents or heads of state, not what we have where power is concentrated on one person. My thoughts Ultimatezlant: 2 Likes |

Okay but my point is, it doesn’t really matter how many cities we have, cities develop due to economic activities. Let the economic activity by private sector driven, let each state determine their own pace of development. If a state has enough economic activity to support 2 airports so be it. If the government hands off basic things like electricity, transportation etc, let each state run and generate their own funds then pay tax to the FG, you won’t need to determine how many cities will sprout W3LLAND3R: |

[quote author=W3LLAND3R post=81102089]I will go straight to the point . Do not expect constant electricity or high speed trains any time soon, not because the president wouldn't like that to happen, but because Nigeria is a poor country and there's no money. Whether or not Nigerian politicians steal a single penny, there would still be no money to accomplish anything significant. Let's assume Nigerian leaders have stolen a combined loot of $100 billion dollars; that's still not enough .. Why Nigeria is a poor country Nigeria makes only $44 billion dollars per year - that money is disbursed to 36 states and 500 cities/towns and it becomes minuscule to accomplish anything significant. For example, delta state makes 17.5 billion per month (only 60 million dollars ) . Los Angeles city alone makes 300 billion dollars a year. Nigeria needs at least $250 billion dollars to have constant electricity ; Highspeed train connecting the entire country would cost around $150 to $200 billion dollars; A 100-120 storey skyscraper cost around 1 billion dollars ;A world class airport cost around 1 billion dollars; a world class mega mall cost around 300 million dollars The money Nigeria earns right now is only enough to provide basic infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, roads and pay government workers to keep the system running. Nigeria can only have money to develop if the economy is diversified and Nigeria makes at least 400 billion dollars each year. I think it's high time all Nigerians know this fact now . stop blaming Obasanjo,Jonathan or Buhari. i'm sure these presidents would have made constant electricity happen if they could . The only thing Nigerians should ask the government to do is to diversify the economy ,not to provide constant electricity because there's simply no money to do that now . My solution Nigeria should not break up, it's better to unite than divide . but we must come to agreements to move the society forward and provide good quality of life for all. There should be only 9 cities instead of 36 states and 300 cities/towns spreading resources thin. We have to come to an agreement ;I know Owerri ,Enugu,Aba,etc would like to have the tallest skyscrapers and largest airports ,but unfortunately these towns are just too small. much better to unite . The 9 cities are as follows : Calabar,Onitsha,Kano,Lagos,Kaduna,Portharcourt,Maiduguri,Abuja Now I saw a thread about Ebonyi ,anambra, owerri building airports ;complete waste of funds . it's much wiser to concentrate and build one world class international airport .whether or not the airport is built in present day Enugu landmass,it should be called Onitsha international airport. No need to build 2 airports and seaports in cross river and akwa ibom . funds should be channeled to build a world class seaport at Oron which will be called Calabar seaport , the airport at Akwa ibom should be called Calabar airport . Lagos international Airport could be built at Ibadan or Ondo landmass it should still be called Lagos international airport which serves the entire citystate . I observe that one of the reason my suggestion may be opposed is because Nigeria is a very clannish society. and that may be the downfall of the black man. Nigerian should understand that it doesn't matter where the president is from, what matters is to do the right things for improved quality of life for all . Also, tribalism is total pointless. no tribe is superior . All tribal culture have positives as well as negatives. We must leave the old ways behind and progress forward into the future. high speedtrains ,malls ,constant electricity and organized housing developments are neither Igbo nor Yoruba culture.[/quote You have spoil every thing by building only 9 cities, in USA one state has many cities. meanwhile we can develop with out being self reliant, mentality of Hausa man is different from Igbo like wise Igbo mentality is different from Yoruba's, so its better we do our things in different ways to solve our problem than trying to claim one and become mumus. At op your mumu never do?. |

Where's your source for how much Nigeria currently earns? Where's your source for its current maximum earning potential? Where's your source for the costs associated with various aspects of infrastructure? You sound pretty questionable. One of the main things that holds Nigeria back is an alliance between powerful nations who want to exploit its people/talent, steal resources or buy them dirt cheap, and avoid competing with Nigeria. These people devote a lot of time and resources to orchestrating as much chaos as possible. Another major problem is the corruption that exists partly from foreign manipulation, and partly from people taking advantage of the chaos. China's solution to corruption is execution. I think that's extreme, but it's fair to say it has helped them tremendously. Look what the west did to Mugabe. 3 Likes |

We barely make enough money he says, thunder fire you there. Yet we still remain the richest nation in africa with the highest gdp but our infrastructure still remains the poorest. An average nigerian politician has at least a billion naira in his account. 2 Likes 1 Share |

I hate writing about this, said it over and over again For a nation to grow Budget/GDP ratio must be up-to 35% our own is around 7 % Nigerian is in a state where the middle class are not driving the government.... They feel less concerned because they are not taxed as they should ...most middle class are indifferent about politics.... They have enough money and are not taxed, no luxury tax or the rest..... Easy for them to bribe their way through so they are OK with the way things are... They don't vote or partake in elections The Elite, are scared to tax the middle class, and allow them enjoy no tax system, the Elite have enough to steal ....so they are OK with the way things stand The poor are very active in politics , don't even understand politics, economics and logic, they are easily divided and controled ...give them hope and little gift u get them The above is the problem The solution Is increased and effective tax system, the middle class must be taxed enough to get them involved in politics ,this would raise over $200bn per year easily if done well The middle class would unturn put pressure on the government to work, they cant be bribe or intimidated My submission 1 Like |

Re: - by Cousin9999: 4:57am On Aug 10, 2019 |
People need to give up the lie of African poverty. There's stuff Africans step on every day that's worth billions to another country. There is no other corner of the world besides Africa that can be completely independent. There is no other corner of the world as resource rich or as talent rich. And Africans are some of the hardest working people in the world. Africa could shut out the rest of the world and have highly advanced infrastructure, and rich culture. The rest of the world can't do that. And that is a huge reason African nations are so heavily targeted. Boko Haram are foreign-backed terrorists. |
