Chad Former Oil Minister Arrested For Alleged Embezzling Public Funds. by Chukwujoe1: 5:52pm On Sep 04, 2020
On Wednesday Sep.2, the former Oil Minister of Chad was arrested for alleged embezzling public funds.

The Oil prices in chad have hit record highs in recent years. Yet the living standards of the majority of the population have not risen to match the vast profits being made by the government. Instead, most Chadians are still mired in poverty. The core of the problem lies in the flagrant misuse of oil revenues by the authorities. Since the oil began to flow in 2003, President Idriss Déby's government has squandered hundreds of millions of dollars as the precious resource has become a means for the regime to strengthen its armed forces, reward its cronies and co-opt members of the political class. Chad's oil wealth, far from relieving poverty, has both become an important element in Déby's strategy to hold on to power and contributed to ongoing instability in the country.

Many leaders have been in the position of an oil Minister in chad but still, the revenues made in the sales of oil in the country have not be helping in fighting the rate of poverty in Chad because most this leaders have not been giving good accountable records in all there local and foreign negotiations.

The former Oil Minister,Djerassem Le Bemadjiel, according to reports was not able to give account of over $31million in a foreign negotiations.
