If it is true, according to the story by Sahara Reporters, then both the DIG and the IGP have fallen foul of the Law, and due process should follow immediately.The country is fighting corruption in high places.

1.Spent 35 years in the force. He would have retired this year anyway, whatever happens. Even if he wanted to be IG...at best he gets a few months in the job before he mandatorily retires.(yes, I know Adamu got extension, but it was for 3 months, and he goes)

2.As a DIG, once the current IG goes, in the next 3 months, he is also suppsoed to retire. DIG's always retire with the IG. The next IG will come from the ranks of the Assistant Inspectior General of Police

So, south north things have nothing to do with it, the guy was already out of contention for IG by virtue of his rank as DIG and years of service.

Most of the past Inspector Generals of police were AIG's before they were chosen, including the current one.

The guy is a DIG. And he has spent 35 years in uniform. EVEN if he got the IG job today, he would STILL have to retire in a few months, forgery or no forgery. (and if Buhari tried to give him a few more years in office, there would be protests , and not just by Northenrers).

If the guy was an AIG...I probably would have agreed with you. But hie is a DIG, he has spent 35 years in the Force, so he is out of contention anyway, even without this current case.

If IG Adamu had retired last week as originally planned, the guy would have retired too, and we won't be having this discussion.He is still there because Adamu got three months extension.

Well, this is not entirely correct as nothing in the police act mandates an IG to be selected from serving AIG's. A serving DIG can be made an IG if hw still has up to 4 years left before retirement. Also, an AIG can be selected as well provided he meets this criteria. Nothing also mandates serving DIGs and AIG sto retire before their retirement age. It is just a matter of self respect so as not to be ridiculed by a junior officer that has been made their boss. In fact, there is a particular DIG serving under Adamu presently who joined the force before him and became an AIG before him.
