Funfair as Musa-Olomu begins second term at FMC, Abeokuta

Unlike the regular work day at the premises of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Thursday's event will not easily be forgotten by many.

This is as members of staff, including Medical Doctors, Nurses and other health workers, came out en masse to welcome the newly-reappointed Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu back to office.

After finishing his first tenure in May, there has been anxiety as to the next person to administer the over 25-year old health institution.

For about three months, the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Fidelis Ojeblenu, had to steer the ship of the hospital.

But just last week, Olomu was reappointed for a second term of another four years by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This, however, necessitated the heroic welcome that he was subjected to by members of staff.

After observing a procession of few metres away from the centre, the Medical Director and others converged on the Telemedicine Hall of the hospital, a structure that was recently put up by Olomu.

Executive members of different union bodies hailed the virtues and dedication of Olomu during his first term and thanked God that he was able to scale the hurdles despite many obstacles.

In his address, Olomu expressed heartfelt gratitude to staff members of the centre for their immense solidarity over the past three months when he was out of office.

Olomu, who was full of emotions, expressed appreciation to God for His mercies and faithfulness, especially unto Him.

He particularly thanked the members of staff for all “your efforts, visits, calls, advice” noting in particular the "Thursday grand reception".

While speaking with newsmen shortly after the grand reception, Olomu promised to ensure that the hospital meets up with the expectations of not just the government, but the masses at large.

He solicited for more cooperation from members of the public towards taking the hospital to a higher level.
